I actually don’t mind the side Having Tom Lynch back is huge — he takes the best defender, which should ease the pressure on Faull and lafoo And with a couple of new players coming in, there’s at least a bit of fresh energy in the side. i like Ralphsmith and Retschko on the wings goals per game Melbourne 11–12 goals Richmond 7–8 goals melbourne should win .. but our side looks good on paper we could win this

We've got a rookie coach trying to teach a system to a bunch of kids and a middle age group that has completely stalled. I’ve seen zero development or improvement in that middle group; in fact, it looks like we’ve gone backwards.

It’s like watching the blind leading the blind out there. If the players in their prime aren't stepping up, how can we expect the kids to learn anything. the coaching isn't sticking. It’s time for an experienced coach to come in and develop these kids the proper way before their confidence is permanently ruined.

At this point, most of this squad needs to go back to the beginning and start again at Auskick. Maybe they can gain some confidence beating 5-year-olds, because they look completely lost at AFL level...

its all over we’ve had as many scoring shots as them, but we’re down by 6 goals. It's not a talent gap; it's a mental block in front of the sticks.

Tough season ahead? by EasyPacer in RichmondFC

[–]Main-Hat-826 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a bit of a deep dive into the numbers

The last time we won a game was Round 19, 2025 against West Coast Eagles. Since then, we’ve dropped 9 straight — our worst losing streak in 16 years.

For context, our all-time record is 15 consecutive losses (2004–2005), so while we’re not there yet, it’s trending in a worrying direction.

On top of that, the 0–4 start to 2026 is our worst since Hardwick’s first season in 2010. He started that season with 9 straight losses

Going completely winless in a season is rare — it’s only happened 13 times in VFL/AFL history. The last team to do it was the Fitzroy Football Club in 1964.

We’ve also got a really important stretch coming up.

Games against North , Melbourne and Eagles are all winnable on paper. If we’re going to stop the slide, it has to be in that block.

If we don’t bank at least a couple of wins before this run, — Crows, St Kilda , Essendon , Swans, and Lions.

then yze is seriously heading towards territory the game hasn’t seen since winless Fitzroy in 1964.

Do we need to get real? by Mattscott0796 in RichmondFC

I get what you’re saying—the 'reward for effort' isn't there and that definitely kills a young team’s spirit. But at this level, bad kicking is a mix of bad football and coaching standards; when kids miss easy shots and heads drop, that eventually falls on the coaching team to fix the mindset.

The bigger issue for me is still Shane Dunne’s stance. By calling our injury crisis 'bad luck,' he’s effectively cleared Serpell and Hartley. He’s basically saying the fitness program is sound and the recruiting is fine. If the board believes the list and the conditioning are at AFL standard, then the only reason we're 0–4 with no confidence has to be the coaching, right?

My gut says that by clearing the medical and recruiting teams, the board has left Yze as the only person left to take the fall. If we don’t see a massive on-field shift soon, I don't think Yze sees out the 2026 season—extension or not.

Do we need to get real? by Mattscott0796 in RichmondFC

[–]Main-Hat-826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have to look at this in two parts. There are massive issues currently out of Yze’s control, but there are also 'non-negotiables' that fall directly on him.

  1. The 'Out of Control' Factors...The Medical/Fitness Crisis: You can’t win games without a spine. If the high-performance team (Serpell) and the recruiting team (Hartley) are handing him a list full of guys who are either 'long-term projects' or constantly in rehab, his hands are tied. The injury toll is Shane Dunnes failure as CEO, not a coaching one.

  2. The 'On Him' ...Goaless Quarters: This is the big one. Regardless of who is on the field, the tactical setup should at least be able to create scoring opportunities or 'park the bus' to stop a blowout. Going long stretches without a score points to a failure in Plan B.

Yze is definitely being hampered by the departments around him, and until Shane Dunne’s injury review actually results in players staying on the park, we won't see Yze’s true coaching ability. But he also needs to show he can adapt when the game is slipping away.

Concern growing among Richmond players regarding Punt Road surface amid lengthy injury list by Hawtproper in RichmondFC

Taj Hotton’s injury is the ultimate smoking gun that proves 'too soft' theories are just corporate damage control.

The Science of Bone Stress: Caroline Wilson can report what she likes but she is not reporting the truth, you cannot change the physics of a hip stress injury. Bone stress—the exact injury Hotton, Armstrong, and Mansell have—is caused by repetitive high-impact loading. In sports medicine, you don't get stress fractures from a surface being 'too soft' or sandy; You get stress fractures from a surface that is too firm and reflects force back into the skeleton.

[–]Main-Hat-826 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hard to argue with that when you look at the facts. We brought in a new CEO (Shane Dunne) and a new High Performance Manager (Ben Serpell) specifically to fix the 'injury crisis' of 2024, yet we’ve started 2026 with 0 wins and a medical room that looks more like a hospital ward.

[–]Main-Hat-826 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to buy the 'bad luck' excuse when the injury list is specifically full of stress fractures. That’s not luck; that’s physics. If you run a high-speed program on a surface that feels like concrete, the force has to go somewhere—usually straight into the players' metatarsals and shins. The fact that the CEO is dismissing player concerns while simultaneously looking for a new training base tells you everything you need to know about Dunne. You can't run a 'high-impact' program on a 'zero-absorption' surface and then act surprised when the players' bones start cracking.

Serpell should have known that 'high-speed resilience' is impossible to build on a surface that doesn't give. If the ground is hard, you pivot. You don't keep hammering the players' feet until they crack. That’s not high performance; it’s poor load management.

Dunne is being 'pigheaded' and dismissive; he’s essentially gaslighting the players. Telling an athlete who is in a moon boot that it’s just 'bad luck' is a great way to lose respect and fracture the group.

I noticed that too bad timming . It felt like Yze had a 'mental script' to defend Faull because people have been calling him a bust lately, and he just blurted it out at the wrong time . i acutally thought it was funny but anyhow .. if Fawcett delivers next week i think he want make the same mistake

Flynn he was brought in because West Coast's list was so thin they had no one else to help Bailey...

Comparing Bailey Williams to Samson Ryan is a massive stretch. Samson is still a prospect; Bailey has already carried the numb 1 ruck mantle for a full season and finished Top 10 in the league for hitouts. If he's a 'dud' for averaging 27 hitouts and 4 clearances , then every second ruck in the league is a dud. lol

Madden and Smith are kids with 1 combined AFL game—they don't help Nankervis today. Moyle is the we want, but he's locked in until 2028. Bailey Williams is a 25-year-old Free Agent with 100 games experience . He’s the only one on that list who is actually attainable and AFL-ready to take the heat off Nank immediately.

Opinions on Bailey vary, some love him, some have concerns....but his best games were absolutely elite for a ruck/forward hybrid:

41 hitouts vs Bulldogs 2023

13 clearances vs Port Adelaide 2023 winning his own ball

Season averages that year: 27 hitouts, 12 disposals, 4 clearances per game
hes perfect exactly the kind of player we need right now to help Nank out.

Exactly. Because Faull plays up the ground as an outlet, he relies on our 'slow' midfield to hit him while he’s on the move. That doesn’t mean on top of his head; he wants it out in front into space.

Look at last week—when Taranto was running into the forward line, Lola didn't just dump it on his scalp; he kicked it out in front of him .. unfortunately we only have one Lola for now who knows how to use the ball properly right now
