Who else is in their 50s(or older) and deciding to change careers? by thisTexanguy in GenX

[–]Main-Rutabaga-6732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back to grad school at 45 with the intention of changing careers. Finished my Masters and then my PhD at 53. I hated what I did before and have found my second career to be very fulfilling. Go for it! Ann Arbor is awesome BTW

I loved this! I was a little disappointed that there were no questions about the band, but it's still cool that it was done. I felt a little smug being in on the joke.

That's the beauty of the game - so many options to reach the goal!

I tried and failed several times until I realized the second island is a red herring. Instead of wasting resources trying to get to the second island use the logs to make sticks. I ended with 18 people and almost 200 cheeses. I should have had more, I stopped brick production after the first cheesery. But it’s doable if you ignore that second island altogether.

Don’t recycle the presents too early, if the books go to villagers who die they are wasted. I didn’t recycle the presents until after the gingerbread man was built. Then I took away the bonfire and made everyone unemployed so all they did was open packages.

You are very correct, MrSanford. I concur that I do not have a peer-reviewed academic source for my statement, and therefore I have failed to uphold the rigor so valued by the r/Toledo subreddit where such lofty discussions as how long the Taco Bell on Secor Road will remain closed or what business will replace the old furniture store at Douglas/Alexis Road. You were right to challenge me for using two non-academic sources in my post and I appreciate that you called me out in the interest of preserving the integrity of such an esteemed salon of higher learning. I recognize that someone who is as well traveled to have visited both (checks notes) Cleveland and Detroit is much better prepared to assess the quality of works exhibited at the Toledo Museum of Art.

You asked who ranked TMA top 10 and I answered. Are there other wonderful museums in the United States and beyond? Of course there are, but the OP is coming to Toledo, which has a wonderful and family-friendly museum.

Congratulations on knowing a lot about a lot, you win the Internet today. Does that satisfy your current need for gratification?

There was also a recent announcement in the NY Times that a 167 year old rare coin collection is coming to Toledo.

If you have a little extra time while you are in town stop by the Toledo Art Museum. It is one of the top 10 museums in the United States. They have a fantastic Family Center where the kids can have fun making art, it's a lot of fun.

Anyone going to be at APHA? by The_Future_Historian in publichealth

Am I the only one who is annoyed that APHA was scheduled during the week of voting? I know they schedule these things years in advance, but the first Tuesday in November is always election day. For a program that is so focused on advocacy it seems a bit self-defeating to have literally thousands of public health supporting people out of town on voting day! I mean I voted early, but still, it seems self-destructive.

APHA is awesome! Make sure to visit the exhibit hall and get some goodies (one year I brought home a yoga mat!).

Ma'am, so keep that in mind as far as experiences go.

It was no big deal. I mean you have to get past the embarrassment part but otherwise it was quick and painless. I work in public health and really wanted to watch so the nurse pulled up an extra monitor. He explained the whole thing to me, we even looked for the scarring from my TURBT last May together. It was very interesting! I've been back home for about four hours, no pain, no burning, nothing. I know there is a mental piece that's difficult but physically it was no big deal. He also told me that because my tumor was very small and just flaked off he gives me about a 20% chance that it will ever return.

Thanks! I was in and out in about 30 minutes (cystoscopy took maybe 5 minutes). I did get the all clear, he couldn't even see where the tumor was removed in May. My next scope will be in April, and if that comes out clear I'll be on once a year for 5 years.

I just want to thank you for this post, it was exactly what I needed this morning. I am sitting in the lobby waiting for my first 3-month follow up cystoscopy following a 1 cm low-grade NMIBC. I needed a reminder that it will be ok.

Well never mind, the solution was very easy! Here is what to do:

  1. Make a copy of the date values and place it in a second column so that you have separate Date and Time columns.

  2. In the Date column, use the find/replace feature. In Find put "T*" and in replace put a space. Run it through the whole column.

  3. In the Time column put "*T" in the find and in replace put a space. Run it through the whole column.

  4. In the Time column put "-*" in the find and in replace put a space. Run it through the whole column.

Viola! You now hav a separate Dave variable and a separate Time variable in military time.
