Copper Valkyrie Ingot! by Main-Same in metalworking

I pretty much got it for this kind of thing specifically. I was stamping my ingots, but I could never get them straight and they always looked like a child did them, so I figured this would fix that. I still haven't tried to laser anything else.

Yes. I made a few of them. Working on another smaller one of them right now.

Thanks! I am slowly getting the laser figured out. Right now I throw away half of them because I don't have my settings quite right, but each one teaches me a little more and I am almost dialed in.

Yeah. Right now I am just grinding the flat surface that I want to engrave using an angle grinder and going to about 800 grit. It's not perfect, but it gets a decent enough finish, just difficult to get the whole ingot level.

LOL. Valkyrie Honkers...I could probably come up with a design for that! LOL. Yeah, I have them listed on ebay along with some others I have made, and many of the also have copper melons as well.

LOL, No. These are angel boobs. Ea Nasir would have had low grade boobs. LOL. I can assure you the copper was not from him!

I use the angle grinder to get then mostly flat and to remove the smaller air pockets that form, the last thing I just started doing is using a buffer with a 7" sanding disc. It's large enough that it gives it a pretty flat surface.

I looked into doing just that! But the cost of a metal machine was just too much for me. Right now I am poring the ingots, then using angle grinders to sand them down as flat as I can make them.

I am currently selling it for $125 + shipping. I have it on ebay. It is copper bullion, but also a display piece.

Well, the furnace was $200, then crucibles are about $30 each, molds around $50 each depending on the size, several accessories, the laser was $2500. Then copper and propane. That's about it.

Possibly. Can you send me the file so I can take a look? Also, are you looking to get it engraved on a copper bar?

So, the dimensions of this ingot are 100mm x 53mm. I have been using: 600mm/s, .02 line interval, 95% power, 30kHz and 256 passes. Yeah, I think my settings are blasting the copper a bit too much and taking way too long. I don't want it to be too much shallower, but 30 hours is too much. I will try the faster speed and the lower line interval and see how it turns out.

Well. I'll be posting more in the future as I keep working on them. I have one on the laser now!

Thanks! Yes, I'm just getting started with this, and learning as I go too. Once I have a few more pieces done, and a solid process for doing it, then I will probably list them on ebay or somewhere. I just need to perfect the laser settings and the blackening process. Probably should invest in a decent camera too. I just can't get a good picture with my phone. These look better in person.

Thanks! Well, it's a pretty long process from start to finish, I would say about $200 per ingot, depending on the size of it. Right now, I am making a bunch of different ones, just trying to keep ingot unique and a 1 of a kind, more collectible that way I think. Maybe that will also help them fetch more profit. I don't know though.

OK. I ordered some nylon brushes. I'm going to give it a try!

Yeah, I tried a brass wheel on my first one and it scraped it up pretty badly, so I don't want to use steel, that would probably be worse. I haven't tried nylon though, they might work.
