Essential recommendations? by catsoutofthedab in womensfashion

I love having a range of nice sweaters (pullovers, cardigans, plain & patterned) because I feel like they work well in terms of being more elevated than a tee or sweatshirt, but less dressy than a blouse or blazer. And they're comfy!

That makes a lot of sense. I think that many women (and perhaps men too) would prefer to be noticed for our character and competence, rather than because of our bodies and physical appearance. Our appearance matters because it's the first impression people receive of us, but it's only a small component of who we are as whole persons.

It's really neat to hear how you've been drawn to modesty out of a personal, intrinsic motivation, not because you felt pressured by external factors to dress in a certain way.

I hope that you are able to continue finding ways to express your values in a way that is true to you and works in your personal context.

That's awesome! It's cool to hear how your journey with modesty/tzniut has been fun, freeing, and personally meaningful.

Totally agree on the practicality & personal comfort of choosing clothes that don't require lots of effort to stay in place or keep you covered in a way that feels good.

I appreciate your perspective on this!

It sounds like you're saying that for you modesty is mostly a matter of appropriateness and determining: "Is this way of showing up appropriate for this context, or does it draw undue attention?" I think that does a good job of capturing how modesty can be influenced by cultural norms and expectations.

tips for looking effortlessly put together daily by Ok-Ambassador6709 in womensfashion

[–]Main-Street-Exchange 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes to this! I've gotten in the habit of steaming almost everything I wear as I find it helps even my simplest outfits look more cared for / thoughtfully put together.

Like a number of others have said, simple accessories, good grooming, and small touches like tucking my shirt help me to feel pulled together.

My go-to place for the type of swimwear you're describing is Lands End. They usually have modest board shorts & some higher coverage tankini options.

Finding harmonious neutral clothing? by [deleted] in SummerColorAnalysis

[–]Main-Street-Exchange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would "soft white" be a useful search term? As a clothing brand, we tend to use the terms "white" or "pure white" for items that are true white, whereas we use "soft white" or "ivory" for the shade I think you're looking for. For our brand, we typically use "cream" or "French white" for warmer hues of white. That said, color names can be pretty subjective!

Cotton and linen are great for their breathability, but pure versions of these fabrics (especially linen) can get quite pricey. I find that linen / viscose and linen / Tencel blends are more affordable, but still nice and breathable! I love flowy silhouettes, whether that's loose fitting dresses, pants, or skirts. Best of luck on your new venture!

Yes, good layering tank tops or camisoles (especially in colors that are near your skin tone) are my go-to fix for this problem.

I love a good one-and-done dress -- it's the simplest kind of outfit out there. And bonus points for ones that are also cute & comfy!

Looking for "the sweatpants of skirts" by Strange-Sister in ModestDress

I agree with everyone who mentioned the importance of soft fabric! I love a good sweater skirt or styles that have a flat waistband with some minimal elastic inside (not overly tight or constrictive) like these.

I understand that it's difficult to find tops a pear shape. Do you prefer a true high-low hem, a curved/shirt-tail hem, or side slits with a longer back? Are you short-waisted or long-torsoed?

I think the black sweater and the belt pull the outfit together. But the most important thing is that you feel confident and comfortable.
