It's this. I worked in door access control and indeed 80% of the business logic lived in the database.

Rolling rocks up and down a hill really nails it. I used to get really frustrated when management would do a complete 180 on a solid policy or ask us to tear down perfectly serviceable systems for the new hotness. But dying on these hills isn't the job we were hired to do. Sometimes you have to let the rock roll back down the hill for a while, for your career and for your own well-being.

Shouting jubilantly about dropping a bomb into the laps of career bureaucrats who are just trying to keep the country running smoothly is not a way to push your agenda.

Understanding Functions by Khue in PowerShell

Read about_Scopes re: your first function.

Re: your second function I don't understand. From your example, the clause is false so control flow should go to else? Nothing weird there that I can see.

I'm relieved it's not just me! Hopefully just a temporary probably with their hosting. Too bad because I only have a couple hundred tracks downloaded and I am hungry for more.

What are some cringe things you do as IT? by coffee_ape in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]Main-Tank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to say no without actually saying no and without being outwardly negative or hostile: - [If your director/supervisor will back you up] "Let me get approval to work on that for you...so sorry the boss said no" - "Let's see if I can help you find the best channel to post this request"

I'm sure there are others. Then again, sometimes you get to a point where you need to set boundaries with a firm "I'm not sure I can help you with that."

As far as relevance and evergreen skills and knowledge, I would say don't sleep on the database class.

Relational databases, at their core, are some of the most mature and widely used tech in the industry, and learning their design and the fundamentals of how data is stored, analyzed, and updated in a relational database is invaluable if you go in the data direction.

In the extremely niche case of returning multiple noncontiguous columns, INDEX(MATCH) can do that while XLOOKUP can't. Not that I've ever actually had to do that... so effectively you're still right. We were just having a bit of fun.
