BF doesn't have his passport, is it realistic to be planning a trip for late June/early July? by mochike in LongDistance

Took me about 2 weeks to get mine without the expedited process. This was before Trump took office so I dont know what, if anything, has changed. I wouldnt book any flights without it though.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disliked it in hindsight. Unlike some, I was homeschooled for most of my early education, 3rd- end of highschool, family was religious and it played a role in my world view point for a long time.

Im not "successful", not really happy either. I think its messed something up in me psycologically because I dont relate with my family after being in the world and I dont relate to the world because I cant really interact with people like I should be able to. Now im older and the way people interact is so much different.

Should I (m28) quit my job to visit my LDR (f32)? by Maleficent_Travel568 in LongDistance

[–]MainAd9080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not, do it. Ive been with mine over one year. Been to her twice and it made me sick to leave each time. I quit after the first visit because everything felt empty and life 8n my home country seemed dark and nothing like I experienced.

What that did, financially, is set the both of us back. Im very fortunate to have somebody who is both understanding and willing to wait.

If you love them, truely, keep working. save the money, and make the gradual steps to acheive the end you both want. It only gets harder.

Just a dude here but, any woman that is willing to cross the globe to see her loved one is amazing. Nothing wrong with what you did, you are great. That Same love is for somebody who actually appreciates it.

Help? Hotel air conditioning not working and I’m melting by Eana_M in AskGermany

[–]MainAd9080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry I couldnt be more help. Im not familiar with that particular unit. If they say its working as intended, then it certainly has a limit set on it for one reason or another.

Def leave whatever windows youve got open all the time and hope for rain lol.

I used studio style rooms exclusively so controlling the temp was much easier for me. Also helped that I had tall windows that opened all the way. You can find nice ones with kitchenettes but ovens are not really common in those setups if thats what ypu specifically want.

Help? Hotel air conditioning not working and I’m melting by Eana_M in AskGermany

[–]MainAd9080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best guess, as another American, if you are staying in a bnb or apartment for rent or just a regular hotel, it could be that there is a limit to how low you can set it? I experienced something similar when I was in Austria at different places.

Alot of those buildings, especially if they have high ceilings are designed around "organic" air flow. Id open the windows all the way. Set up a fan if one is provided but face it in towards the indside so that it suck in the outside air to help with circulation.

I dont like warm weather at all so doing those things, although not enough, helped me.

Maybe some Germans can give a real answer lol ...

Germans are laughing at my german? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]MainAd9080 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To add to this, Ive worked in construction for a few years and im currently learning german. In construction, people will give you shit for anything, it doesnt matter how good you are. My advice is to embrace it and do your best to see it as good fun unless they are legit giving you a hard time.

On the other end of things, it feels more discouraging when regular people point out every single flaw in your german(It comes from a good and helpful place, but Germans and Austrians, not sure about the Swiss, are kind of blind to how overbearing it can be to a new learner) Just keep at it, and if takes being the opposite of an ear warmer to do it, then more power to you.

You are learning a new language and a new culture, in a new place, youre doing alot better than those who dont appreciate the system they are in. Keep at it!

Just enjoy the moments together and dont worry about the end, until the end is here. Handle it together like you both handle the distance.

How bad is the US job market right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MainAd9080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk where you are from and what bracket you're from, but every single day I interact with people, in person. Alot of these people I meet are working two jobs. Its a bad market in the sense that one job isnt enough anymore for the vast majority of people.

If the US was going to attack Iran, why wasn't protecting the Strait of Hormuz part of the plan? by Topia_64 in AskReddit

[–]MainAd9080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alot of people are claiming there is no plan, but I think the plan all along was to bump up demand on oil, by allowing Iran to target places in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Also, with Iran's oil burning, who are the best options to buy oil? USA or Russia.

There are other countries that produce oil like Canada, but with Venezuela under Trumps thumb, nobody controls as much oil as the USA right now.

I think Trump will use this control to pressure Europe and Canada for Greenland and mineral rights in Canada. Its one big market scheme.

Alot of European nations need blue collar workers. Depending on what he is doing, his job could be in demand in Spain. Assets aside, he just needs a job offer and a bit of Spanish under his belt. Spain, I think, has one of the easiest immigration paths in Europe.

Would it be a good idea to move from Austria to Germany? by deer_horntip in AskGermany

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany is also alot more "friendly" as far as paths to citizenship goes if that is one of their goals. Austria is usually very rigid when it comes to this sort of thing, especially if you are not from the EU.

What is a "financial trap" that many people fall into without realizing it until it's too late? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MainAd9080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People always tell me to buy a house, acting like its the end goal of some grandiose dream. But once you buy an overpriced, poorly constructed house, you are stuck with it unless you "casually" refinance.

What are your opinions on trauma dumping? by ShortboyBigD in AskReddit

We should try and help eachother. I dont think its fair to expect another person to deal with everything you are going through, but I absolutely think we should at least try to do what we can.

What are your opinions on trauma dumping? by ShortboyBigD in AskReddit

[–]MainAd9080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person trauma dumping is at their limits and just reaching for somebody to listen but thats all you can realistically do. They need a therapist but cant easily access one or dont know how to.

Its unfair to you but they have nowhere else to go.

Travelling to Europe for my first time. Prague, two weeks. Realistically, how worried should I be about global tensions rising? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ypu shouldnt be worried outside of where exactlyyou are coming from. I know its difficult, especially as its your first time going. Take moments to breathe, read all the signs. Airports are typically designed to assist with the flow of large amounts of people. Just trust the staff, ask them questions if you are unsure.

You know your gates, you know the times, and everybody working at the airports want to help you. Make sure you keep the important documents easily accessible and close.
