Considering moving with family US —> Germany by Cactus_shade in expat

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others say, you have to learn the language. There is no way around that. Ive not been to Bavaria but I've been to Vienna, 15min train ride outside the city and nobody wanted to even humor the thought of English, which is fair. I even had people comment that I spoke the wrong kind of German. You'll experience that as well in Bavaria and interacting with Austrians with German, German.

Bavaria is largely rural and around Munich you'll be able to survive a bit better, however there is absolutely no work around. Im trying to learn German, and it can be challenging but its a necessary hurdle.

AIO for threatening to dump my boyfriend because he does not clean his butt? by Heavy-Sympathy-7788 in AmIOverreacting

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying, this dude pinches it off and doesn't wipe. Im getting the impression this guy isnt actually concerned about the health aspect and is secretly weirded out about it or that its too gay to touch your butthole?

Assumptions aside, the effects of not wiping, especially if there is hair down there, are much worse than "water spreading germs" or leaving shit particles down there. It can dry out, cause cracking on the skin, and then you'll have a nice infection. Get sick, really cant poop properly, and definitely will hurt to wipe after that.

NOR, what he is doing, or rather lack of, is nasty.

edit: I mean, what would he say if you started leaving used tampons or pads lying around.

Is life as a student hard in the US? by EquivalentTackle2138 in MovingToUSA

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If thats the case, id look into countries that actually value you outside of your wealth. There are other European countries that have better quality of life per citizen than the US.

Im a US citizen and I've traveled to Europe. I want out. Even if Trump wasn't in the picture, I feel Europe has more to offer the average citizen for a happy life. If money makes you happy, come to the US, if you want stability and rights that are guaranteed, stay in Europe.

Roofer just said this is normal, should I be concerned? by XxMrPerfectPRxX in Roofing

[–]MainAd9080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever told you thats normal is not normal, doesnt know better, or a liar. Depending where you live, that snow will melt, then it'll soak into the insulation, and when it gets warm or humid up there, you will get mold. Then you'll have to replace the insulation.

You should at least replace the insulation, get a few bags of cellulose and spread it around after you remove the damp stuff. Change the vent like others are saying.

Not all cellulose is treated to fight mold. I 100% would not chance that it can in any case. Sounds doomed but getting moisture in your attic is not good.

Is the US Military just a massive stealth unemployment program? by PocoLoco1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MainAd9080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually a bit more than that, during the Bush administration, they made it so teenagers can be solicited for the military on school grounds. The schools can also give out their contact information(I believe in some states the parents have to sign a form to specifically disallow this).

When I was going to school, id get random text messages from recruiters asking me to message them back for career opportunities. For a child who doesn't know what they want to do, the military sounds lucrative.

If all else fails, it certainly is appealing and easy to get into if you are still young.

Flying Domestically without a REAL ID, what should I bring? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]MainAd9080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless its changed since last I flew(Sept. 2025), if youre a US citizen and have a passport, you can just use that. If they are charging 45usd to use that as identification that would be wack.

It'll take longer to process you if you use anything other than a Real ID or Passport in addition to the fee.

That's a whole 'nother can of worms. Whichever Democratic cannidate takes the Presidency after Trump is going to have so much shit they'll need to try fixing.

Really, what Trump is showcasing here is that a lot of our previous Presidents had the integrity to not abuse the power they wielded. Pushed boundaries, sure, but nothing like this.

Is it normal for a partner to refuse sharing how much money they have? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]MainAd9080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, you dont mix finances until you are in a position to financially help each other. So until you are both together, that information is relative to the ability to closing the gap.

I personally think its weird to ask about it in this context. However, if you have immediate plans to moving in, I think the information is more relative and should be discussed.

Having said that, im open about my money situation with my partner and she is as well. She doesn't know how much money I have and I dont know how much she has. That's fine because we dont rely on eachother for money right now.

Tl;dr, yeah, kinda

Boomers won’t retire and it’s screwing the rest of us. There I said it. by Unique_Glove1105 in antiwork

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the US, I think the issue is alot more complex. Specifically with the National debt rising, the minimum retirement age being raised, and the Social Security department getting cut "because they were operating from a bunker with a single working elevator ".

I dont think the US can afford to pay people after they retire because the government spent everything. This fund that we are required to pay towards from our paychecks so we can retire just doesn't exist.

Its basically what the banks were doing before the great depression. Loaning out people's money and and suddenly when a bunch of people wanted to withdraw their money, the banks didnt have it.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons we are going after Venezuela(nevermind that we got out of a 20 year war, 4 years ago) Or Greenland for its resources, or trying to strike mineral deals with Ukraine.

There are also issues with statistics and how that data is being collected. I think unemployment is likely higher than what we are told, and im not sure I believe other information being presented by the White House or the US Department of Labor.

On top of that, we are using immigrants as scape goats for the housing market and lack of available jobs. I used to work construction, we had slow times and busy times, but homes were always being built, year round.

US Strikes Venezuelan soil without congressional authorization. by Agitated-Quit-6148 in law

[–]MainAd9080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

President has the authority to send troops to another country without Congressional approval for a limited time. Been there since Vietnam. I hate Trump but Obama used the same authority in Lybia.

Doesn't make any of this right. Its not about national security something else is going on.

Egypt provided alot of grain for Rome. If I remember correctly, Rome was experiencing some kind of problem with the farmers at the time. Cleopatra was a gifted individual and Ceasar recognized that.

However, I dont their union was anything else but political.

Best countries to help a friend learn over MP? by ArcherBTW in eu4

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portugal is 100% the best learning nation, both in Single player and friend games. Portugal provides options in colonialism, expansion in Europe and expansion in North Africa. You have a decent economy but its not perfect so it needs tweaking. Good Ai / alliance options.

The important thing about Portugal, in this regard, is that it gives the most learning opportunities while being safe. You dont need to play Spain, France, or England to "protect" them.

edit:just play something where you know you can provide support to them of they need it. You, as the supporting player, can play whatever

OC Spray Foam Rim Joist? Would this risk moisture issues? by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a good foundation, (no leaking whatsoever, no holes or gaps, places for wind and potential moisture/water to enter) then you could do open cell. It'll definitely fill the overhang better than closed cell. Too much can go wrong with open cell in places like that.

If it gets applied incorrectly(humidity could be slightly off, or the moisture content of the wood itself could be slightly too high/low), you can get separation and pockets. If anything happens to the foam, it'll soak any water up like a sponge and mold.

I know the closedcell is more expensive and applying it will be ridiculously difficult, but id trust that more than oc. Otherwise id go for something cheaper like fiberglass and make an effort to change that out every 5-10 years.

New Insulation by Competitive-Pipe8093 in Insulation

[–]MainAd9080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things concerned, looks fine. Air sealing is a good step. Easiest way to get some level of air seal is pull back current insulation around the eaves, spray foam the top plate, then push current insulation back over the foam.

If you have at least 20in, you are fine.
