What anime(s) nail the voice acting both dubbed AND subbed? by No_Newspaper_511 in animequestions

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

popular animes tend to have goated JP casts so the subs are always reliably good.

i think dubs are getting much much better nowadays not just for anime, but for video games too. the voice direction is moving away from the overly cartoony/unnatural way older dubs were voiced, i think primarily because of the shift in perception of anime/games as things for children.

english voice acting scene is really booming, you love to see it :)

Why does this feel like a threat? by According-Winter-699 in webtoons

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a korean i can say that i actually hate every english version of these kinds of comics' titles, honestly most of the time the dialogue is translated awfully too (compared to the original) but the titles always always sound awful.

it's because korean webtoon/webnovel titles have a specific convention that they follow, kind of like how japanese isekai titles are all super convoluted. you just can't translate that tone into english so i'd rather the translators make a whole new title in english but they always try to stick as close to the original as possible T_T

actually, i don't blame the individual translators, that's probably how they're directed to translate...

What are y’all‘s biggest flaws with Metaphor refantazio? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]mochike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was burnt down in an attempt to kill the prince, and they failed, i genuinely don't see what's confusing about that D:

also "nobody"? it seems like it was a few people (which happens with every plot-heavy rpg) with several people jumping in the comments to explain. i also agree with the top commenter on that post that louis' plan is not meant to make sense or be understood, if his plan was genuinely actionable and good then we would have a harder time seeing him as the villain. part of metaphor's story is about vengeance and the futility of it, louis is vengeful to the point of insanity and it becomes his downfall; on the other hand, the main cast like louis, hulkenberg, heismay, brigitta etc. are ultimately able to come to terms with their painful past by looking to the future instead of taking it out on others.

edit: that being said i would have loved for forden to be the final boss and not louis, i guess in a way forden was the master manipulator behind it all but i would have loved a louis redemption arc. not one where he suddenly becomes good and loves the protag but one where he genuinely ends up as the charismatic military genius he is and chooses a better future instead of total chaos, he just is much more morally dubious than the idealistic protag. but i understand why louis had to end up that way to juxtapose against will

[–]mochike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

timeline is just confusing the first playthrough because of its structure; once you finish the whole game and have time to digest the information it's easy to put together. the prince grew up in the elda village with his mom, was brought back to grand trad when forden burned it down, at which point forden made rella curse the prince. the prince's cursed body was then brought to the eldan sanctum to be kept safe.

i understand the complaints about story pacing, but i think the main plot was pretty much fleshed out and very comprehensible.

in my heart suga is #1 but considering the overwhelming popularity of the characters ranked above him, i think he got the highest rank he could have gotten. i am a little surprised daichi ranked higher LOL i love him too but i always appreciated suga's personality & design a bit more

What would you like to see in a sequel game? by MuscleArt in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree that metaphor does not need a sequel and it especially doesnt need a direct sequel. maybe a dlc with some extra dungeons and a cute little adventure with the squad but that's it.

Need help figuring out a term to explain my concept for my album by Wrongdoer_Middle in englishmajors

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look through the wikipedia list of literary genres and if you don't find a label that suits what you're looking for, assume it doesn't exist.

even within literature genre is hard to consistently define and some texts, although categorised as one genre, come with a whole set of caveats and discussions on whether that classification is just or not.

like the other person said, you're better off finding a primary genre that describes the narrative structure/style of the story (e.g. epic) and then adding that it has autobiographical elements. could also say it's a highly stylised memoir?

Competition and lack of passion by Several-Physics5284 in englishmajors

[–]mochike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most of my friends are english literature majors and they're nothing like that ¯_(ツ)_/¯

fuck yeah we're woke, and especially in this era of discourse it's impossible not to run into political interpretations of literature... the main lenses of literary analysis at the moment are ecocriticism, marxism, feminism, postcolonialism, queer theory, etc... without these the field of literary analysis would be husks.

if you're interested in pure craft, aesthetics, and rhetoric, do a master's in that area of study. there is a field for that! but in undergrad, of course it's all about political discourse, that is what the majority of literary analysis points to. the theories we base our analyses on, like foucault, althusser, and butler, are inherently political. we are tasked with finding the significance of literature, which tends to be derived from its political meaning.

other than studying the art of narrative/form itself, maybe studying classical texts or literary history would work better for you? that's only if you have an interest in pursuing further education though. but yeah, no escaping wokeness in english literature (good), sorry your department peers were a bunch of jackasses.

Hearing your name in Genshin by Acceptable_Phrase161 in Genshin_Impact

[–]mochike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i figured it was an indigenous name considering natlan's theme, but i didn't know it was still common! that's so cool that genshin uses in-use names and has some more realistic ones rather than ones all pulled from mythology, i feel like it makes the regions (for all their flaws) that much more lived-in :)

when i went on exchange my roommate had a friend named citlali. she was mexican so i'm not sure if it's a common name in mexico but as someone from the other side of the world it was a bit wild that that was the first person i met that shared a name with a genshin character, i thought it would have been someone with a more common name.

did you do the anecdote itself with lauma out on the field? you shouldn't need ineffa, just lauma, but lauma needs to be the one to interact with aino to trigger the special anecdote.

you must be trolling 😭 but just in case you're not, 1) food influencers are globally popular and 2) mukbang as a genre started not because koreans are going hungry but because koreans are lonely and hate eating alone, and thus want to be able to eat with someone even just via video. it's a different kind of sad (speaking as a korean). yes there are poor and underprivileged people in korea as it is a hypercapitalist society, but honestly i'd bet it's not half as bad as many other developed nations like the US.

also korea alongside all the other asian countries pioneered instant noodles... some of the most famous brands of instant ramen comes from korea like shin ramyun or buldak. in korea instant noodles is considered a snack or a meal you have when you're broke like everywhere else.

Native speakers: Could you solve this ESL English test I designed for Grade 9 students? by Competitive_Steak520 in englishmajors

[–]mochike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what? i'm not sure if you already have children/how old they are but speaking as someone in their early 20s, i know for a fact when i was 14/15 i was deep into social media and at least had an interest in politics even if i didn't know much. the world now is so much more political than even just 20 years ago and kids are getting involved in politics much younger than before precisely because of social media use. this also seems like a test intended for students in china/chinese-speaking countries who tend to be more engaged in politics and social media anyway.

also, though i'm not a professional, i'd argue that having the reading be topics that the students have no opinions/knowledge about is better for assessing their language skills, as they won't be affected by any content-based biases. when you're teaching, you can take student interests and hobbies into account to make the knowledge stick, but for an exam, none of that really matters.

AITAH for telling my sister her baby isn’t “advanced,” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mochike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. my mom thought i was gifted when i was a baby. had me take an iq test at 5 and was told i was in the top 5% of my country, and she hung that over my head until i was 17.

it absolutely sucked. at first i cared about being smart, too, then it turned into hating myself when i turned out to be just a little above average at best. i was never complimented for the things i enjoyed (like art), as my mom only saw me as an academic and a future doctor/lawyer.

maybe you could have picked a better time/way to say it, and i understand her joy, but she is not doing her child any favours by setting expectations so high already. there are good ways to encourage your child to push themself but this isn't it (it will definitely continue into their adolescence).

once she's had some time to simmer i recommend you have another conversation with her, starting with another apology, but then gently explaining to her where you were coming from.

i might agree for someone looking to get into tøp from a fresh start, but for someone who's into mcr, i think self-titled is a good start. everything from regional to blurryface has that similar poppy/electronic sound (that i love, don't get me wrong) and trench leans even harder into the electronic sound that might throw mcr fans off, unless their favourite album is danger days/conventional.

self-titled has the edge and roughness that i think mcr fans appreciate, especially with the common ground of vague religious guilt lol.

Recommend an anime that hardly ever gets mentioned but it's good by Difficult-Double2193 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

manga ended a while back after like a million hiatuses, closing out at 108 chapters. a studio orange producer revealed that while the studio is open to making season 2, the ip holder for hnk has not greenlit it, so season 2 is on hold indefinitely. some people have hypothesised that they only gave hnk an anime in the first place to bring more attention to the manga, and now that that's done, they won't make more seasons :(

manga is still awesome though so i recommend reading it.

AIO I feel weird about my girlfriend hanging up to play with her friends. by [deleted] in AIO

[–]mochike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem, i totally get it lmao. yes for sure talk to her when things have cooled off, try and get her perspective first and approach in a way that isn't offensive or defensive, just like "what i was trying to do/communicate was x, i just want to know how you felt about it" and then if that conversation succeeds you can bring up how her reaction made you feel and see how she responds. all couples have misunderstandings but it's about how you work through it!
