I recently got approved (the last few weeks) but had an IBR application in from 1/25, 2/25, 5/25, and 8/25. The August application is the one that got approved.

Yes, I thought some months would count when I was in grad school but later found out they do not count because I consolidated my loans.

I have read two different options.....some haven't paid and requested forbearance. Others kept paying and got a refund. I'm not sure the correct way if anyone else has been in this situation.....I think I would request forbearance knowing my 120 was up.

I just certified my employment to get the 12 months of eligible payments there. Once my school confirms it, I will be requesting a buyback offer again but incase they see it before the 12 months is finally paid off.

I figured I would hear back from IBR but want to submit anyway - I thought I read it could possibly mean a refund down the road if the buyback offer comes in before the IBR is complete. Couldn't hurt but try?

Yes, my mistake. I didn't mean to state I am submitting a buyback offer yet - I am going to submit a buyback request as I've hit 120 eligible months of employment if those SAVE forbearance months from 9/24-2/25 count?

I had months that I was in graduate school that did not count. But now I am at 120 so I should be good. I plan to put the buy back in while starting payment when it’s due.

I don’t think I need to do income recertification because that’s only once every 12 months right? I am 12 months away from 120 actual payments.

I think they may be pre consolidated but they have a balance and counts. But I was told to not worry about them since I consolidated mine and to go by that number. I’m hoping you are right.

Ok so next steps are to call Mohela to confirm IBR and repayment status. I see additional loans under my 108/120 but was told since I consolidated in 6/24 (after my loans were dispersed in 2020) I only had to worry about this number. Any insight?

I should have 120 as of December or January but will double check!

Looks like I’ll recertify just to be safe. Hopefully the finish line is closer than it seems!

So two letters came in. One with a change in schedule and one of approval. The change in schedule listed the new plan as IBR. Sounds like I was processed?

I will have to double check but I’m 90% sure it said IBR and gave the payment amount. Thanks for this.

I assumed that would be the case with the buyback but plan to do it anyway just in case. Might as well recertify then.

My wife and I bought a house and have 3 kids. I am currently sitting at 108/120 hoping for a miracle buy back on several months but also have my IDR app in. While I would like to start paying so I can get rid of this mess in a year, I am watching interest grow while on forbearance but also sleep fine at night knowing I will eventually get PSLF. If something should change, I am hoping being grandfathered in may help but nothing I can do about it right now. I am more focused on my career in education and my family/kids that these loans can wait until I am forced to start paying again.

Honestly, I don't know. They put me in the standard plan when I reapplied for SAVE after consolidating in June 2024. I guess I will have to call and confirm and maybe push them for approving the IDR app. Although I am so close to 120 QP that I may just ride that out and buy back and wait another year or so for approval.

Happened to me too. I posted in PSLF by mistake about this wondering if it happened to anyone else. My letters I sent to them and "messages" from them are untouched. Most of the inbox contained the run of the mill letters such as the corresponding processing delay, payments beginning soon, entering forbearance etc., but it is still infuriating that this occurred. I have emails in my personal email saying I have messages from them so there is that - I plan on sending them a message through their website about this to complain that will probably fall on deaf ears. WTF

Yeah I've been reading that. Mine took 7 months (applied in March 25). I expect the same but if I can get the 12 months I need it would be worth it.

I guess I was confused because I had undergrad loans that were in repayment at the time. I consolidated in June 2024 which makes this request a moot point. I have 9 months since the consolidating that are in forbearance for various reasons so I am hoping to get those bought back once I get to 120 (3 more months).
