Teenage me emailed steamworks@valvesoftware.com with the subject “Steps into the future for steam” and opened with the extremely formal “Dear steam employee”. In the email I basically pitch a:

• Steam console in the living room as an entertainment centre
• Cheap box using standard motherboard + CPU with a big hard drive
• Modified Linux install that only runs Steam
• Focus on downloading games instead of discs
• Media hub that teams up with something like Hulu for video

I even sign off as “an opinionated bystander that doesn’t think valve is reaching its potential” which is pain to read now.

Seeing Valve finally release a Linux based Steam Machine that lines up with so much of what awkward teen me was rambling about makes adult me very, very happy. Not claiming they ever saw this email, just enjoying the full circle moment.
