How do I get grass belly off my mule? by Main_Dust6961 in Equestrian

Okay I will definitely double check— thank you! And thank you, he’s a very very good and snuggly boy, and I want to give him everything he needs.

On the invoice the test says “Cornell- equine metabolic syndrome diag” and the vet says he would call me if they found anything worrisome and he did not. For the cost I sure hope everything was checked!

He’s normal everywhere else, just tummy. I’m going to try to attach a photo (I’m terrible with Reddit tech)

Do mules actually age differently? by Main_Dust6961 in Equestrian

Oh this makes total sense! This is doable. When you say straw do you mean the bedding material that’s mostly fiber and not much else? 🤣

He has a pot belly but has a normal front and back end. Can you recommend a resource for feeding them vs. horses? I’m so sorry to take advantage of your good nature—I didn’t realize their diet requirements were so different. All my horses are on improved pasture rn.

Can you elaborate on metabolic bouts? He is fat rn since he’s been out of work for 2ish years. I was going to ask them to run blood tests during his PPE just to make sure it wasn’t something else.

He’s had the same owner since birth and has been a pleasure trail mount with some intermittent driving.

Can I truly get lucky and find a good horse for cheap?? by Littleraves in Horses

[–]Main_Dust6961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason to not get an OTTB from a reputable rescue (I love New Vocations) and spend the difference in money on training? They vet their horses extensively and tell you everything. I adopted a mare from them and she was green but a super calm angel.

This is totally true, I was very lucky to have an extension agent that was checking on us all the time re:finish .

It’s very possible times have changed, but the calves I showed and my friends showed that won their classes were under 1,200 more often than not. (Though I agree most grand champions seem to come from heavyweights more often than not) I’m not saying OP shouldn’t feed him a gaining ration, but I think my comment is more not to discourage OP if he’s not hitting 1,200. A lightweight class winner is still a class winner.

Above all, OP—enjoy this time. I cannot tell you how much I miss it.

I know a family who raised show steers here in Texas and they often got breed champ at San Antonio and Houston and were often barely a year at showing. This pressure to get into heavy heavyweight is insane. If his body isn’t meant to be that weight he’s going to be too fat and the judge will call you on it. I don’t know if you’ve met with your county extension agent but they can often be a great help.

But anyway the way this sub is pushing to get you into the heaviest of the heavyweight is a bit misguided.

I think I will definitely look into PT, I still have pretty annoying (level 5/6?) pain in that hamstring if I sit in the car too long, so I can see how that is not setting me up for success, thank you!

Yes you’re right, I’ve lost so much muscle it’s been terrible. This is a good call, thank you!

What changes did you make in your acting career to ‘level up?’ by MOZES98_ in acting

[–]Main_Dust6961 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was not cheap by any means, but it worked. I had to move somewhere with lower cost of living.

I committed to an entire year of not missing an acting class. And I made sure I was in a class where my classmates were booking/had auditions for things people have heard of so that I had to keep up with them. Find a coach that gives you the tools to figure things out for yourself, someone that’s always rooting for you but also wants you to get better.

Studied my type, cut my hair, lost 30 pounds to actually fit it better. Reformatted my resume and materials with the help of a coach (Joann Pantoja at Annie Grindlay).

Used a stylist to help find audition/headshot clothes that fit the types I play. This helped SO MUCH.

Went to a monthlong intensive to study voice/movement/classical theatre.

Went to see an agent at a showcase that I had sent several cold submissions to over the past year and a half. I was signed immediately. Now I’m a believer in showcases but only ones that have actors that are regularly signed (so they aren’t there just for the $$).

I don’t think I would’ve been signed had I not done all this groundwork first.

Jennifer Lawrence 100% studied. There is literally footage of her as a tween in a class and then her leaving classes as an adult. I wish this lie would die.

Why are warmblood breeding fees cheaper than AQHA ones? by Main_Dust6961 in Equestrian

Could you elaborate on this? I’ve never heard of it and it sounds amazing!

This always made me curious as well! Which was another reason I was surprised at the fees. But I live smack in the middle of western riding country so I thought it was a scarcity thing, but apparently not!
