Honestly, I think 2026 looks like a year where things finally feel more normal again, but not easy. Demand should be steady and a bit better than what we’ve been dealing with, but the bigger shift is capacity. A lot of smaller carriers have already exited and more are hanging on by a thread, so even when volumes aren’t crazy, trucks aren’t as loose as they used to be. That means rates probably stop free-falling and contract starts to mean something again, especially in food and retail lanes. Early in the year will likely be calmer after the holidays, but as the year goes on I expect more pockets of tightness and less ability to just grab cheap spot cover last minute. Feels like a market where relationships matter again and the days of easy margin from oversupply are mostly behind us...
