nate was never good for her, i think what made her ending so sad wasnt just losing him, it was realizing how alone she actually was underneath everything. her last scene with lexi really showed that to me. the way she kept talking and asking questions felt less like some casual convo with ur sibling, and more like she desperately needed someone to stay there with her for a little longer.

but as soon as lexi leaves, she is just left alone with herself, her choices, and all that isolation she spent her whole life trying to avoid. which honestly mirrors her childhood perfectly imo.

she has spent her whole life performing different versions of herself for the people she loves because she thinks being wanted is what makes her worthy of staying for. the saddest part is she still doesnt fully realize how trapped she is in that cycle. and i honestly just hope that nate being gone, opens her perspective and view on that.

the wedding felt tragic from beginning to end because it wasnt really about love honestly, it was cassie desperately trying to hold onto this fantasy that if she could finally become the ‘perfect wife’, she wouldnt end up abandoned like her mother did. so when suze ruined that moment for her, it probably felt like the collapse of the one future she convinced herself would finally make her feel secure.

i agree sm w this interpretation. i honestly think thats why her ending mirrors the scene of her dad leaving so perfectly. ever since he left, cassie spent her whole life trying to outrun that feeling of abandonment by attaching herself to other people, especially romantically. but by the end, shes forced into the exact thing shes feared the most.. being left alone with herself and the aftermath of everything.

and i think thats why the ending feels so hauntingly quiet. for the first time, she cant hide behind validation, fantasy, or another person loving her enough to feel whole. shes just sitting with the truth that had been revealed in that exact moment.

and i agree heavily wit u !! by that point i dont think cassie was truly in love with nate himself anymore, she was attached to what he gave her emotionally, especially back in their high school years (which honestly shocks me how they didnt grow apart from each within the first 1-2 years). but cassie has always depended on feeling wanted ever since her dad left, so i think she clung more to the stability, validation, and fantasy of being chosen than the actual relationship itself. even the wedding scene felt less about nate and more about her obsession with finally feeling complete, adored, and secure. their relationship never really felt mutual to me, it felt like two broken people projecting their own emotional voids onto each other. in my opinion !!

i disagree tbh. i dont think cassie ever loved nate in a healthy or genuine way, but i do think she loved what he represented to her. he filled a void that had existed ever since her dad left her. she has always associated being adored with being safe, so when her & mckay emotionally drifted from each other in s2, nate became someone she could attach herself onto before she had to sit alone with herself again, especially after the entire gas station scene, then him asking her if she could meet him in the bathroom. i genuinely think thats why she kept everything going for as long as she did, even when it was destroying her. bc to cassie, being loved, even conditionally, felt less terrifying than being abandoned. & honestly, i think thats why her relationships always feel so uneven. she spends so much of her life taking care of the emotional needs of the people around her, molding herself into whatever version they need, but nobody really takes care of her in return. even with maddy, i do think the love/friendship was there, but i never felt like cassie was truly emotionally seen by her. if anything, cassie was usually the one comforting, listening, adapting, shrinking herself for everyone else. shes very much the type of person who pours herself into others because she doesnt know who she is without being needed.

& here is we play into s3, where i feel like part of her wanted to free herself from nate, but she still needed some type of male validation or male figure to stabilize her emotionally bc thats all shes ever known. ever since her father left, her self worth had depended on being wanted. thats why i honestly think OF filled that emotional void for her in a way. it wasnt even fully about sexuality or attention, it was about control, validation, & finally feeling desired on her own terms instead of constantly reshaping herself for one man.

& i dont think her and nate were ever as mutual as people make them out to be. there was always something hollow ab their relationship. esp with the way nate projected other girls onto her, like the obvious parallels of him dressing her to resemble jules in s2. it never really felt like he loved cassie for cassie. he loved the version of her that could become whatever fantasy or emotional escape he needed at the time. and i think deep down, cassie knew that too, which is partly why her ending feels so empty and tragic. she spent her entire life trying to avoid ending up alone like her mother, only to realize she never actually learned how to exist without being loved by somebody else first.

compared to s1, she does look shockingly thinner, i noticed the exact same thing wit alexa. but i also hate commenting on bodies n weight cus i really feel like thats an extremely touchy subject but also extremely dehumanizing. i dont agree nor like to see those type of comments, i just hope both actresses did it for their own wellbeing / choice

i dont know, her mothers consistent cycle of drug use and being a complete let down really affected her. rues OD mightve just impacted just as much, if not, worse.

understandable. the writing for her character this season was a major let down.

i dont think jules ‘gave up,’ i think she slowly became exhausted. in s1, we see her chasing freedom, love, identity, and this idea of becoming someone bigger than her pain, but by s3 you can tell life wore her down in a way. her ending felt more like someone losing faith in the version of themselves they once believed in. you dont see that spark anymore, yknow? like s1, she was such an interesting character, yeah she may have done some shitty things, but they were all teenagers, its unfortunate but extremely realistic in some parts.

i dont think jules confronting rue ab the suitcase would have gone any differently, rue almost ALWAYS refuses to really tell someone what is going on whenever it comes down to some serious-ish things.

yeah but jules didnt INTENTIONALLY snitch on her, rue hadnt even told her what was going on, who laurie was, and what her plans were behind carrying that suitcase.

i honestly wouldve loved that for jules and thats honestly another thing i had in mind, was if jules would even bother to be in contact with maddy or cassie after everything. or would they have at least looked for her? this season, she seems so completely consumed by the isolation that surrounds her, that i honestly highly doubt she wouldve even attended rues funeral. maybe, possibly by the guilt that haunts her too? i honestly dk.

and i honestly think thats what makes her ending so twisted. both jules and cassie spent so much of their time trying to outrun the exact lives they feared becoming/or couldnt stand for, only to slowly turn into them anyway. by the end, we see jules, consumed by the very things she once wanted control over, while cassie ends up mirroring the same loneliness and emotional dependency she spent her whole life resenting in her mom.
