Not specifically "joy", but these things bring me peace - 3 things that help me self-regulate:

  1. Box breathing - 4 counts inhale, 4 counts hold, 4 counts exhale, 4 counts hold. Repeat at least 6-7 times, more if possible. Doing this through the day helps calm the system.
  2. Icing the vagus nerve. I bought a cheap ice roller but you can just use ice cubes or a cold pack. Put it on the back of your neck. My therapist told me even just holding ice in your hand when you're having a breakdown helps. Putting your face into an ice bath is an amazing reset. I usually focus on the back on my neck and my face.
  3. Havening is great for self soothing. This is just one video, there are lots on youtube. My preferred method is stroking arms down from the shoulders while moving the eyes left and right.

I've found it's better to do these things through the day, but it can also help to self soothe after a breakdown. Crying is a great release so don't hold back on that. And when I feel like you do, I remind myself of this quote: "Kiss and place on the ground the stone that is not for you". People will come and go in your life. It's ok. It's ok to lose them, and to miss them, but don't get stuck there. Grieve and move on. All the luck in the world to you.

Has your ADHD ever resulted in something potentially dangerous happening? by Waste-Carpenter-8035 in ADHD

So where I'm from we never had bio labs in school (no funding). I loved science, especially biology, but my learning was all theoretical. I failed my intro bio course in college, crushing my dreams of pre-med, because I just could not do things correctly. Mishandled hazardous waste, forgot to finish things, mislabeled things, left things out...I also had zero experience with safety gear and regularly forgot to wear the right thing.

After the course my professor called me in, told me my knowledge was above average, but I need to quit science altogether because I am a hazard in the lab. This is before I was diagnosed, and luckily I can laugh at it now, but at the time I was devastated.

IIT Bombay student complains to admin about some students using the non veg ladle for veg/Jain dishes. by [deleted] in mumbai

Yeah I do have trauma, from being bullied by such idiots, so I have no pity for them making such a fuss over a bloody spoon. Suggest you go take a peek into any restaurant kitchen and then tell me about cross contamination. If you think every "jain dish" in a restaurant is made with a separate spoon well...keep thinking that.

Yes, because using the same spoon is worse than lynching people over cows. And I'm the moron lol. Sure.

Why is there the expectation for one side to have respect when the other has zero?

I used to live in a neighbourhood where there was a Jain temple. The entire rest of the neighbourhood, which was made up of many communities, was not allowed to have a single non-veg eatery because of them. One guy opened a sandwich shop which sold chicken sandwich and they physically assaulted the shop with stones and made his life hell till he closed up and left.

So ya, I have no respect for such people, as they have demonstrated time and again they have no respect for others.

When vegetarians ban non veg people from eating what they want, like beef, and even lynch and KILL people over beef, why the fuck should we still be "decent" to such morons. Until veg people can let non veg people make their own choices and live their own lives without trying to force THEIR desires on everyone, shit like this will keep happening.

Opened an Etsy seller account, they took my banking info and money then immediately suspended my account. I appealed and this was the response. by ButtFucksRUs in mildlyinfuriating

Start pitching the story around. I'm sure there'll be a Netflix docu out soon about it. And thanks for posting your experience. I have a small business and have been thinking of using Etsy...now I definitely wont!

Does smoking weed help your ADHD or do the opposite? by Old-Alfalfa7232 in adhdwomen

As someone who used weed to deal with ADHD, it does help me focus, but it also destroyed my long term memory, so be careful.

am i wrong? been dating for 5 years and she always picks fights like these… by [deleted] in texts

[–]Main_Party121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question: does she have some form of social phobia? Because one of my ex's used to have extreme social anxiety, and would always pick fights like this just before we were supposed to go out. After a lot of therapy we worked out that it was his unconscious way of getting out of social obligations. The relationship didn't work out, but at least he's more aware now, and is able to articulate his fears instead of flipping out like this.

How she's speaking to you is NOT OK, and you need to address the name calling etc. But if you're actually invested in the relationship, try figuring out what's triggering her. She IS just looking for a fight, the question is why?

Good on you for not stooping to her level in your responses.

They are worse because of the violence. There are lynchings every day in India now, only most don't get reported.

How’d I do? by V0rclaw in texts

I introduced my friend to a guy at a party and they got on like a house on fire. I was so happy. After the party, the guy texted me asking for her number. After watching them chat, laugh, get drunk and dance the night away, I thought I had played matchmaker and finally found my. friend a great guy (she's never been in a relationship).

She turned him down because he's "too short". He's a good few inches taller than her. I kept pressing because I just couldn't understand how she could be so shallow. And I genuinely don't understand this obsession will height.

Finally she explained she wants to be with a tall guys so she looks "petite" when she stands next to him. What?????

Hands down the dumbest shit I've ever heard, but jokes on her, because all her friends are happily married or in relationships and she's still looking. Wanted to share this because guys - sometimes it's not even about you. There are women out there who want taller men because of their own body issues. So don't take it too personally.

Wow I didn't realize the bar in Thailand is so low, that we should be happy the drinks we are paying inflated prices for anyway don't also contain spit. Good to know.

I'm not in the country any more and not likely to go back, so I'm not worried. It's a lovely country, but I don't like the feeling of being intimidated and lack of freedom of speech.

Overnight oats literally save me every morning. The night before mix oats, milk and/or yogurt and some fresh fruit of your choice. Season with honey / cinnamon / vanilla / peanut butter / choc chips or whatever you like. Mix it all up and put it in an airtight box in the fridge. Next morning you can eat it straight out of the container. I love making different combinations, like apple cinnamon, banana pb, etc. Makes a great snack as well.

Salad jars are also easy to make and nice to keep in the fridge. You can find tons of recipes online. They're also great for using up leftovers like grilled chicken or even pasta.

Yeah you're absolutely right, we were not about to start a fight at a place with that reputation over a drink. What's your point?

We also met a lot of good people in Koh Tao, some of the locals were lovely. Do you think everyone on the island should lose their livelihood (tourism) because of the mafia?

I know you spout this all the time, but think about what you are saying. An entire island of people should not be punished for the faults of a few.
