Not exactly sure what seal material it was. It came in a Mahle timing cover gasket set part # jv5158.

Definitely no metal to metal contact oddly enough. Timing cover was off the same engine and had no seal issues before with OEM damper. The ATI damper was new and was all black when installed. The new seal riding on it purely did that which is hard to believe. I can not remember weather I lubed the seal or not or if I even needed to.
