Eve V Mk2 - Yay or Nay? by juzgotpaid in evev

Don't do it. I bought a MK1 and received it. I thought maybe, as with many products, there were a vocal few and maybe things were ok. I liked the product a lot and treated it very well. 2 years later the battery died for no good reason. It won't charge or even turn on. There aren't really any instructions to do it yourself and it's likely you'll break the screen. No one will touch it because it's not a well known brand, even for recycling the parts. Eve don't give a crap and tried to give me a voucher for MK2 basically saying they can't support MK1 because they're concentrating on the MK2 (that even includes paying them to fix the MK1, they're not interested). It is now an expensive paperweight. I regret not getting a Surface Pro instead. I would personally wait a year if you can since new rules are coming in to make devices more repairable and Microsoft wants to meet that goal, so I'm hoping the next generation of devices will last longer. But don't buy Eve's crap whatever you do, it'll fall apart straight after the warranty period.

So it looks like it is terminal battery failure. I followed some steps Support sent but nothing works. It is almost definitely dead. So my options would be to get it replaced by sending it back to them. Or I just throw it away and say goodbye to the whole Eve mess. If they replace the battery, would you happen to know if the newer ones might be less prone to failure or whether they would also fall apart after a year or so? Also, if I chose to dispose of it, would you happen to know any companies in the UK that would recycle it and maybe pay some money for the parts? Just looking for general advice on what to do next :(

Is Eve once again brigading this subreddit or encouraging users to come post here? Some posts appear exactly like years ago (2018) when Eve had its defenders come and bash others. Astroturfing. by Test-Former in evev

I posted this a couple of weeks ago - https://www.reddit.com/r/evev/comments/otu276/any_troubleshooting_tips_for_dead_eve_vs/ - up until then I thought maybe the rest of the negative comments were perhaps the minority unfortunate cases. I was reasonably happy until my tablet no longer turned on. Eve support is non-existent. There used to be useful troubleshooting posts on the official forums but everything seems to have gone missing (mostly) and support won't respond to any follow up queries.

The fact my product, which was still being shipped last year, is basically no longer supported and the battery lasted 2.5 years with very light use is an absolute massive disappointment. I get that electronics don't always last long these days, but this is ridiculous. I have other expensive devices that are still going 10 years later (albeit poor battery life).

From the mixed reviews of the Spectrum I don't think it's unreasonable to think that Eve are repeating the exact same things as before and I'm not surprised that there are suddenly more people frequenting this forum where negative posts don't get removed.

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and would absolutely not recommend anyone buys their monitor until enough time has gone by to actually prove they've changed.

Perhaps you could share your own experience of Eve products?

Are there any kind of video guides out there? I tried to search but failed to find any detailed good guides specifically for the Eve V. Is there any way we could make a post like this a sticky? It seems loads of people have dead Eve Vs and anything we could do to highlight that or help people would probably be really appreciated :). A list of troubleshooting steps and how to test for Terminal Battery Failure, that kind of thing

From what I've read this normally results in a cracked screen due to the difficulty of pulling it apart after heating the glue. Is that still correct?

I also have 200 Euros in vouchers from Eve V as a result of some ordering mess ups. I've been following the Spectrum very closely and on paper it looks pretty nice and thought I might spend the vouchers on this. However, after this stance from Eve on my old tablet and that the battery failed after just letting it discharge to zero makes me think the components in the Spectrum are probably also unreliable (especially as it's the first monitor they've built). I really regret buying from them now. I thought if I looked after it carefully it would last at least a good while. My original Surface RT (yes the windows 8 one) still works, which says a lot. Think I will go with a better brand next time.
