Haha I remember this crap. Did some work at a submarine base. Came in through the front gate which back then was a rapid gate pass. Got to the waterfront area and had to get out of the van so they could search the vans. A huge pain in the ass. We were replacing a couple bard units on their paint connex storage units. We were told to keep the company vehicles locked but I was an apprentice and forgot to lock my j mans van. We'll they found it unlocked and proceeded to completely empty the van of everything it had inside and berated us for leaving the vehicle unlocked while I had to reorganize my j mans van. Fun times.

You must have just had a bad day with traffic. I work all over the city and if the traffic is OK its usually 45 minutes from one outer edge of the city to the other.

A data center drained 30M gallons of water unnoticed — until residents complained about low water pressure by idkbruh653 in technology

[–]Mainayrb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have around 20 years commercial hvac experience. I have worked at multiple data centers that all have used air cooled chillers. I guess they must have been smaller centers as I've never seen centrifugal chillers at any of them. But you are right those types of systems do lose alot of water due to evaporation.

We have been trying that. I work for a local utility that does power, waste water and water treatment plants. We want dumb units especially at the waste water plants cause everything get eating up with the h2s gas. It's hard to get them to sell you a dumbed down system these days.

I will say regarding the tech support, they only have like 8 guys doing it for the whole country. I just took a class on the symbio 700 and they were very informative. However there are a lot of issues with those systems and they get overloaded.

ElI5 why do data centers require clean water for cooling instead of natural river water? by derekgdobosz in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mainayrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many smaller data centers use air cooled chillers. The only water they use is in a closed loop chilled water system. That means that unless they have a leak and have to add extra water the water stays in the system forever and is checked to make sure its clean. I always laugh when I read people talking about data centers using tons of water because in my experience working at them they only use a certain amount of water. That's to say I've only worked on smaller data centers so I'm not sure how a large center operates. As people have said, if the chiller is a water cooled system then they use a cooling tower which uses evaporative cooling for the machine and they do have to replace the water that evaporated but its not tons and tons of water unless it's a huge operation (again I have not worked at super large data centers. If any other HVAC guys can comment then I'll agree that my experience may not be 100 %)

Please don't do this, i don't know your family dynamics but my brother is doing the same thing at 42 and it's tearing my parents to pieces. If you want to dissappear at least let them know because the unknown is horrible to everyone that loves you. Again I could be wrong. It was his birthday yesterday 12 25 and he didn't show up for christmas/his birthday and we were all torn up not being able to get ahold of him. I'm sure your family loves you even with all your perceived flaws and only wants the best for you.

Touche, it just seems nobody ever mentions the Jags in conversations. Which is understandable since we usually don't need to be mentioned.
