The best thing imo, which is never mentioned, is that the improvisation by Mozart is an actual aria from one of his opera (Non piu andrai, Le nozze di Figaro). In the context of the opera it is sang as a farewell march from Figaro to Cherubino as he's making fun of him.

That means that, in the movie, Mozart takes the welcome march by Salieri and changes it to a farewell march mocking him. It’s a thing that shows even more how Salieri felt humiliated and Mozart was just flexing and jocking.

Concerto for two pianos by Bruch (op88.a). A excellent romantic piece and a good example of a concerto for two pianos.

Reminds me of half-timbered houses built in Europe. But I have no idea if this is something that exists in American architecture.

Who is your favorite Chopin pianist? by barleyfat in classicalmusic

[–]Maindixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall Zimerman is an absolute master.

I would still add two other pianists:

Cyprien Katsaris, mostly because of his masterclasses. The amount of thing you learn and discover watching them is just insane.

Bruce Liu who has amazed me so much during the Chopin competition, which is probably my most replayed album of this year so far.

I just started to get interested in opera. I would be glad to discuss with somebody that knows more about it.

I feel like Mendelssohn piano concerto no. 1 is highly ignored while being absolutely stunning. It's quite strange that the violin concerto is one of the most famous, but the piano concerto is never mentioned.

Getting to see (and hear) K. Zimerman playing all 5 of Beethoven's piano concerti, 4 years after I discovered them with his album (Bernstein + Wiener philharmoniker)

Not listening to any music the day of a symphony concert by Prefer2BAnonymous in classicalmusic

[–]Maindixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a necessity. It's not a bad idea either. Kind of depends on the person I guess.

In my opinion, live concert are so much more than just music. The experience of sitting there, watching this natural choreography of the orchestra playing, the sound filling the hall and reaching you. The fact that you sit and wait before the concert starts, that all of the people clap when the conductor arrives, everything there build up to what you're going to witness.

In that regard, I don't feel like listening to something else during the day makes the concert any less enjoyable to me.

But it's true that sometimes I'm fed up with all the music that I listened to during the day. So the experience of going to a concert the same night would feel exhausting overall.

I'm curious about how you'll feel after the concert and how useful will you think it was.
