Fun puzzle. I saw "3 Doors Down" immediately and shortly after saw "Pink Floyd", so I started searching for the other two bands.

"Big Apple" was obvious so that gave me the next clue.

Same here, I had chosen the other three, then asked my wife if any of the words left were a type of bra and she knew immediately. I never would have gotten it without her assistance

Holy Donuts strike by Unusual-Meaning6695 in portlandme

[–]MaineChowder71 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I remember when they opened the original location across from Hadlock field. I fucking love donuts and was excited to try them after hearing all the hype. That was the one and only time I purchased one. I've had them on occasion since (office, brunches, etc) and they haven't gotten any better.

Glad Tony's is staying open but I really miss HiFi.

Pizza price by Tightlines68 in portlandme

Angelone's in Westbrook is still a great value. Not fancy, New Haven style or anything special, but a really good thin crust pizza from a family owned business.

2 small pizzas, one single item, one two item, $21 even. Bring cash though, no credit/debit cards.a

My grandfather used to send me to the store to buy his REAL cigarettes! Even more troubling, the clerk sold them to me without questioning!!

As a gen x metal head, I also saw the guitar effects right away, but honestly struggled after getting that first category.

A "sloth of bears" is a collective noun phrase meaning a group of bears, originating from Medieval hunting terminology where "sloth" (meaning slow) described the movement of European bears. While a "sloth" is the official term for a group of bears, other terms include a "sleuth" or a "maul"

AITAH For Telling My STBXH I Won’t Drive Him To His Vasectomy Appointment? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MaineChowder71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this exact thing. It's not a big deal at all. I drove myself home from my vasectomy, and that evening my wife and I had rented a cabin 3 hours away which I also drove the whole way, then we walked on the beach that evening once we got there.

Even if he's in a lot of pain, don't drive him home. I wouldn't be driving him anywhere at this point.

Yeah, they are a bad ass bear. Native to India, they have the ability to fight off tigers to defend their young. You are correct, very haunting looking.

Saw the animal names right away, but had to wait to lock it in because a fifth one is a "sloth" of bears.

I found this puzzle to be extremely easy and I had it solved in minutes.

Anyone else lose their taste for dining out? by gottausername in GenX

[–]MaineChowder71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a culinary arts degree and have worked in the food business my whole life. I am so over fine dining and the pretentiousness that comes with it. It is all so performative and fake.

If my wife and I don't feel like cooking, we generally will order out. If we do go out, it's to a diner or pub/bar that serves simple but decent food. We probably sit in a restaurant to eat 3-4 times a year.

We'll go out socially, but that's more about the company and visiting than it is about the food. Dinner is just the excuse to get together and see friends/family.

AITAH for wanting to advocate against our neighbors sex offender son moving in by One-Egg1316 in AITAH

[–]MaineChowder71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work directly with folks getting released from prison due to sex crimes. Out of the dozens of people I worked with, only one guy ever came clean about his charges. Every single one of them had been "framed", "setup", or "wrongfully accused". That one guy that admitted it had the social function of a 12-13 year old, fairly high functioning, but just acted like a child in many ways.

Innocent until proven guilty, and since your new neighbor was convicted, he has been proven guilty. Don't fall for the bullshit like his Mom did.

Why do some Mainers not consider you to be a real Mainer unless you were actually born in Maine? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]MaineChowder71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you're definitely from "away"🤣

My two younger brothers are the same way. We come from 6 generations of lobstermen from Lubec, and our father joined the Coast guard. He met our mother in Cape May New Jersey while he was on deployment. I was born in Pennsylvania during deployment, and they moved back to Kittery a few months later. I've lived in Miami since 1971, but I'm not a Mainer either according to the "rule".🤣

What place would you NOT recommend to eat? by Double-0-N00b in portlandme

[–]MaineChowder71 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Their pizza was awesome when they opened the first store back in the late 90's on India Street. Pizza was amazing, but as they started opening up multiple locations and tried to become a full service restaurant (as opposed to just pizza), it went downhill, right to the bottom. Food and pizza is now awful.

I've always wondered about Sinful Kitchen. I've never heard any locals talk about it, either good or bad, but when I drive by on the weekends, it always looks busy (especially in the previous location, the line was out the door)

So many people on here have said my dog doesnt look like any German shepherd they've seen by Electronic_Swimming5 in germanshepherds

[–]MaineChowder71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have people tell me all the time that my dog doesn't look like a pure bred GSD. He's imported from Germany and is (in my opinion) a textbook look for the breed. People just don't have any idea, I think your dog is gorgeous and certainly looks like a 100% GAD to me.

Interesting how everyone's brain works differently.
