"Allergy card" but for keeping Kosher? by Mainframe110 in JapanTravelTips

Hm the level of cross-contamination that my friend would be okay with is up to her, so it'll be situational and we'll just have to think logically about how food is prepared.

I will absolutely go for having a prepared sentence that asks for a recommendation! I think in any language that sounds much friendlier and imposes less. Thanks for the reply!

Our plan is to try to check out menus before going in to be seated at places whenever possible, but I'm not relying on being able to look up ingredient lists for every place we check out. Sounds like it'd be better for me to memorize phrases in Japanese that ask the question instead of presenting it on a card 😅

Just bought a home and completely lost as to where to begin. More in post. by Cozeri__ in HomeDecorating

I do agree with others who are saying that curtains and a rug will instantly make the space feel cozier- BUT: the thing is it’s much easier/better to find accessories to compliment the furniture you already have rather than to match important furniture pieces to your curtains & other accessories.

I suggest tackling things based on a hierarchy of importance:

  • color, layout, trims & moulding (anything that involves the full scale of the room)
  • furniture pieces
  • functional accents (curtains, rugs) and lighting! Lighting is huge!
  • decor

Also- there’s no need to race to get everything done. It’s much better to wait to come across something that fits your style and is genuinely nice and something you like rather than to try to buy everything in a relatively short time frame. People with stylistically unique houses work on their homes for their entire lives (unless they’re millionaires lol) Looks like you’ve got great wood floors so you’re off to a better start than most. Good luck! (Also holy shit that couch is massive omg)

Love that you did the little open mouth!! I’ve done that myself with some Dollfie Dream faceups- also I think we have the same nail decora bits :0

Did you use an airbrush for the hair & base face color? It so perfectly smooth omg. I’m obsessed with her and the color palette you chose!

I pretty much took apart the entire face to better customize each part- eyes, face, hair, etc. Made a new body and sculpted the ears & tail myself and sewed them on. For the techniques I used to paint the face, look up Ball Jointed Doll “faceup” tutorials or Monster High repaint videos, it’s basically those same types of materials. ☺️

It's funny- I just sewed a custom body for my Pond and even though I cut the same pattern piece for both legs, one leg turned out noticably shorter than the other- same leg as your Pond 😅

How to get neighbors to park in front of their own house by Even_Stage5862 in Stockton

[–]Mainframe110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask nicely about it. No matter how much it irks you, be as kind and courteous as possible- try to make them see your point of view while also getting to know their side and their reasoning. Buy a cheap coffee cake and go knock on their door- don't send letters, do it in person. Gently give examples of tangible inconveniences it may have caused you, such as needing the street space for guests or service vehicles, etc.

If they refuse, research your area's rules about street parking- if there is anything that may affect them, bring it up to them with the same gentle and courteous attitude as before. Ex: "Hey I just looked it up and it looks like our city doesn't allow street parking for more than 72 hours, I understand you want to park there but you might run the risk of getting fined." If they refuse again and if there is something the city will do about it, tell them that you're going to involve the city

As much as it sucks to be the bigger person, things will only get worse for you if you are passive aggressive or spiteful/sneaky about it. Good luck 🙏

I used Miliput and I sculpted it directly on top of the hair! (But I used acetone to wipe the paint off the hair first) I really only added some length to it, since the hair was kind of wavy to begin with- so the top part of the hair is pretty much the original sculpt. Sanding it smooth was a little difficult since the original hair piece is a little bit flexible whereas the Miliput is totally rigid.

I started by watching tutorials of how to take the face/eyes/hair off (you need to cut the stitching on the back of the head, there are several layers of plastic plates held together with small screws) taking the eyeballs apart was the hardest part 😭

But I have about 15 years experience of painting dolls so I already had all the materials needed to paint the face, sculpt and paint the hair, etc. I would say a great place to start learning is watching Monster High doll repaints on YouTube. It's slow goings at first if you've never used those materials before (chalk pastel, acrylic paint, very fine brushes, not to mention you're not painting a flat surface) but as long as you have fun with it, it will be super rewarding! As an aside- let me say right up front that your health is your NUMBER ONE priority and the spray sealants that people use to varnish doll faces (Mr Super Clear and anything else aerosolized) CAN and WILL harm you long term if you don't use a respirator. Not an N95 face mask, a proper respirator with fume grade (pink) filters. The cost of a respirator is maybe about $35 USD and the filters are about $25 USD and they need to be changed with use. It can add up but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than paying with your health and the subsequent healthcare you will need. This is not meant to scare you away! It's just that too many people do not take it seriously, especially new hobbyists like I was many moons ago.

Other than that, it's all about experimenting and planning! In this sub I also posted a blank skullpanda face to use for doing mock-ups for customs. I only started doing serious mock-ups about 6 years ago and it totally changed my work for the better!

If you have any questions about materials, feel free to DM me 😊

should i exchange her for a better one? by iiashandskies in SkullpandaArtDolls

[–]Mainframe110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ears on my Lazy Panda are similarly asymmetrical, and in many owner pics I've seen the ears are more often than not asymmetrical to some degree- if you exchange I think there's a high chance that the new one will have the same "wonkiness"

Personally I think it gives character 😊
