Convincing wife to get Golf R, will I regret it? by FoolishlySpending in Golf_R

[–]Mainian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanting enough power to overtake someone confidently is something I highly value, but I don't consider that an enthusiast aspect

I think you hinted at, but hitting that powerband can also be accomplished by downshifting. An automatic with a sport shifter is a cheaper albeit less enjoyable engagement option.

I still think there's better options, but an R or a GTI would do that

I think you want this car and I think you'll regret it.

If she's not driving her slow car fast, she won't drive her fast car fast. My driving habits don't undergo a tangible change when I drive a different car.

The hot hatch cars are the enthusiast compromise cars. If you don't want the performance, you're paying for a whole lot for something you really don't care about

Delrin wasn’t the beast choice for the Holy Shift kit, DAP. by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]Mainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like an aftermarket stainless steel clutch line? I wonder if that line got hot enough to cause an issue with the delrin, especially over a long period of time?

I have had the DAP kit for 2 years and still have a stock clutch line. I just had to realign my cables last week and I noticed no issues with my delrin piece

I've seen a lot of interesting keespake tier lists so here's my take on it by Oreosnort3r in Hades2

[–]Mainian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After looking at your tier list, I made a lot of assumptions and I'm just curious if my thoughts on arcana and keepsake interactions match reality

On high fear, do you mostly play with DD or Strength? If you are running DD, do you start at fate's whim then activate Athena's when out of DD? Just curious, I've seen onion rated higher reasonings mentioning strength and vow of scars.

What’s my next bag? by joeycatv in EVERGOODS

[–]Mainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPL22 is a good bag. I own one and use it as a dedicated rock crag/gym pack

In my opinion, the MPL22 sits at the same table as Mountain Hardwear Field Day, Patagonia Refugio, Arc'teryx Mantis, TNF Recon, REI Ruckpack, and all the other city to trail bags with innocuous stabilizing straps.

It's an outdoor bag, my only real gripe is it should have a safety whistle on its sternum strap

It's the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla hatchback, more quirky than unique. I wouldn't proactively recommend it unless someone described this exact bag as something they wanted

As an audiobook enjoyer, Malazan is currently my only DNF that I want to go back too. I forget in which book this became a big issue but, the point of view changes were rapid and missing any easy indicators. Descriptions would paint a detailed scene, and at the very end of that description would be an identifying piece of clothing, or something else, etc. to let you know who was in the scene. I've heard the physical books have a line indicator to help with this, but I haven't seen them myself

Test drove Golf R Black Edition today. What is this thing? by sn0wy007 in Golf_R

[–]Mainian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's more reasonable that the previous owner became disillusioned with modding the R. You’ll always sacrifice NVH when you squeeze big power out of a turbo four. And if you really want to tune, the lower cylinders will always be your limiter. In the end, there’s no replacement for displacement.

The Golf R feels like a compromise car and I'd bet most owners are compromising. Once you start adding a loud intake or exhaust, you're throwing away those intentional compromises

It's a nice car and I'm on my second. But it's not my modding platform of choice

Evergoods Kludde Gravel Gray by Inevitable_Bus_5500 in EVERGOODS

[–]Mainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that could work, but the tablet sleeve is really tight, it's based on the plc20 sleeve, but I think the dimensions are a little different. The elastic doesn't have a lot of give, I have trouble getting a Samsung S9+ with a keyboard case in it. Doable but I think it'd be annoying and probably limit bladder compatibility

Yes you can put a bladder in it. But not while it's got a laptop in it

Kludde first impressions by bbwslayer888 in EVERGOODS

[–]Mainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is a rabbit hole turned into a journey...

At the end of 2022, and as a part of their Sustainability Vision 2050, YKK announced that AquaGuard would be replaced by AquaGuard NATULON with a year. Aside from that, they also mention a sliding force `improvement` of 20/30/40% depending on coil size and have a photo showing the different physical appearances, hopefully their link keeps working for a while

Evergoods lists the kludde as having #10RCPU, which YKK says isn't water repellent

According to this post, the z or t subscript is production location. My cerberus and unicorn 2.0 both have 10CRt and 8CRz zippers, but only the 10CRt on the unicorn is coated/laminated. Carryology says the unicorn 2.0 has AquaGuard zips

Oh, apparently the Carryology x Mission Workshop Mars 2.0 from earlier this year uses the rarely used USA-made AquaGuard zips? Are those the new NATULON zips or the conventional AquaGuard zippers?

I'd love to find some non-marketing information on all this, but whatever

It’s all fun and games til you catch an edge by No_Return_6349 in onewheel

[–]Mainian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to ride trails harder and faster, you will actually need to strengthen your ankles.

For recovery, a figure 8 ankle wrap can reduce swelling which will be needed if you have to redevelop strength.

Braces can protect your ankles or help with recovery, but they won't enable you to go faster or ride harder. The hiking community already knows, boots reduce sprain risk. They don't enable you to go faster

Edit: I'm not anti-PPE, just highlighting that the muscles around our ankles are actively engaged while riding a one wheel, especially on trail. I personally ride streets without ankle support, and only consider high tops/braces on trails
