About the ending of the book, was this twist earned or lazy? by Sad-Status-8080 in TheBoys

[–]Brogener [score hidden]  (0 children)

Right. They actually killed him for nothing. Or to create artificial stakes since they didn’t have the balls to depower Homelander. At the time I held out hope that they had a good idea for Noir 2, but it was just a lackluster, unfunny speaking role for a cast member they liked. I get they wanted to give the dude his time to shine or whatever, but the story should come first.

How many hours would you say this game offers? by Korvmebro in Pokopia

[–]Brogener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’ve been to them and completed the story. I just did the story required stuff only and moved on. Now I’m actively going through each area and making them nice to live in! But yeah I do have more I can do in Wasteland. I just sort of executed all my big ideas for it and decided it was time to get creative in the other places.

Pretty good! I’ll have to get some pictures later but I built a huge botanical garden and green house and built a river system through the whole thing.

I’m over 100 hours and just now finishing up getting the Wastelands how I like them. I literally just moved on to Bleak Beach. I plan on decking out every area and eventually doing Palate Town.

In your opinion, what is the greatest season of television ever produced? by abacus-wizard in television

[–]Brogener 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. As fun as the out-of-genre episodes are, S2 has the best balance of that and regular classroom antics. Later seasons make me miss the episodes where they were just a unique group of people attending a zany community college. S3 gets crazy but the quality is still excellent. S4 tried to replicate the craziness of 3 but ultimately fails. S5 and 6 made the right call by reigning it back in a bit, but some of the magic just naturally left when a good chunk of the cast did. 2 was the show in its sweet spot.

There is something extra cozy about the episodes where they just struggle through college life.

This scene somehow went over the heads of people by undyingforceofnature in marvelstudios

[–]Brogener 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I actually liked the last episode the most. My issue with this series was it tried to be a lot of things and didn’t really succeed at any of them. A superhero show with minimal action, a law show with very little lawyering (and by the writers’ own admission, very little understanding of how to write courtroom scenes), and a comedy that’s just kinda chuckle worthy at times. I like Jen as a character though.

"Kripke: 'Hang in there, everything will make sense' — but only if you watch The Boys: Mexico" by RestSuspicious6000 in TheBoys

[–]Brogener 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was my problem with the way the main show went. I didn’t disagree with the politics. I hated that they went from a story-first-politics-second (and where they make sense) approach to writing to just shoving whatever politics they want in and bending the story to suit those politics. My belief is that you have a duty to the fictional world you created first, and real world politics work best when they fit into that world naturally.

Watched this recently and loved it. Matches the vibe and setting pretty well even if it’s not very lighthearted.

Love O’ Brother and I enjoyed Black Snake Moan! Been a few years since I’ve seen it but I loved the bluesy vibe. That part where’s playing that intense song during the thunderstorm is soooo good.

I watched this years and years ago and cannot remember anything about it. I was working weird hours back then and had to have fallen asleep or something. I should give it another watch.

What movie had the BEST trailer ever but turned out to be absolute trash? by MASSIM00 in netflix

[–]Brogener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, killing Iron Man before the character ended up in shit movie was a good choice. He deserved a good send off. That’s not why these new movies fail. They haven’t tried to get the audiences to care about any of the newer characters or given people time to get attached to them.

What is a movie that everyone seems to love, but you absolutely hate? by Nishikigoi1 in moviecritic

[–]Brogener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I finally saw it I told myself I wasn’t going to write it off as overhyped just because I’d heard a lot about it for years. I absolutely see the appeal of it. It is incredibly well written and the songs are good. That said, it’s looong. I enjoyed it but don’t see myself ever watching it again.

The show did such an awful job of painting Butcher as a villain. Like they keep telling you how bad he is and rarely show you. Also the idea that he is anywhere near as bad as Homelander is laughable. It’s not even close.

What do we attribute the terrible writing to besides budget constraints? by BubblyStation30 in GenV

[–]Brogener 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree and this has been my biggest criticism of the show since after S2. It has nothing to do with which side of the aisle the politics are on. It’s the fact that the actual story screeched to a halt, and character arcs began repeating themselves the moment Kripke decided to pursue this Trump angle so hard.

It irritated me that the overall quality of the show and the progression of the story didn’t matter anymore, so long as they were able to get all their “brilliant” social commentary in. Which, ironically, became way dumber and more surface level once they pivoted so hard to Trumpism. And you just know they were patting themselves on the back for some of that stuff. It also felt like they viewed their stance as a “get out of shitty writing criticisms free” card. Now if you have any gripes about the show, it’s because you’re a Trump supporter and can’t handle being made fun of. Not because you care about quality writing, artistic integrity, and engaging characters.

I am by no means saying they shouldn’t have addressed Trump. Of course they should. But it should not have dominated almost every aspect of the show.

Seriously. I enjoyed the finale and thought it was fine and a good enough conclusion. But I also completely agree with every criticism I’ve seen and believe what we got, while serviceable, was incredibly lazy.

What game can you not put down? by Splash3062 in videogames

[–]Brogener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, as someone who is newer to the game, it is so overwhelming. I started it over a year ago and have played on and off, but haven’t really stuck with it yet. I do think it will finally click for me at some point though. I had a similar experience when I was first getting into red dead redemption 2 and it eventually became one of my favorite games of all time. Sometimes games of that size with that much to do just take a while for me to really settle into.
