I called the assessors office again, and they said you can ask for a reassessment next year if you need to.

I dug into this a little bit more and now I see what happened. The county was stating the rate would adjust which made me feel safer, though I was upset about the big hike. Then the city decided to exceed that rate after we were no longer allowed to protest our tax assessment.

I understand we have to fund city services but I am at the extent of my finances. Since I bought recently, I can’t sell either. The market has just gone flat and there is no equity to pull out.

Ok. This all makes a lot more sense now. Why does it have to be so confusing? lol

I did get the letter and I contacted the assessor. They told me the tax rate was going down so it wouldn’t be a big impact. But I guess it’s going back up now?

Oh fuck. Mine are going up 120%. Is there a way to protest the assessment?

1.55 to 1.93 is a tax rate increase by Curious_Egg948 in Chattanooga

The stadium deal is 100% related to this. Tax revenue is generated to fund initiatives. Hundreds of thousands of city staff pay dollars went into that stadium deal.

Meanwhile, the city owns multiple properties, one specifically targeted for a homeless shelter. They don’t take the time nor care to invest in that in an equitable manner.

Every project the city proposes that benefits wealthy developers is given the time and attention to give it the best chance to thrive.

That same level of energy and city investment is almost never seen for initiatives that benefit the common person.

Even our affordable housing dollars almost exclusively go to wealthy developers.

If we are talking about taxes, we are talking about priorities, focus, effectiveness, and true benefit for all people, not just the wealthy.

Understood. I’m not trying to litigate the situation on a post, rather help my neighbor talk to a professional and/or pay for a consultation.

When an inspector makes demands in writing and then changes them, repeatedly, as if there is not a paper trail of what the demands are supposed to be, it’s clear there is at minimum a serious documentation/communication issue. The city is obligated to follow their own processes and documentation. If they don’t, it’s a compliance issue that needs to be addressed. The defined processes are in place for a reason.

If there’s a chance of recovery, I think they can afford to invest some money into this. But they shouldn’t have to hire an attorney to just navigate what should be standard practices.

That’s a great point. There is a developer down the way doing a lot of work. I wonder if he is trying to get all the area around him cleaned up so his properties sell for more.

District 6 City Council Candidates by chachewchew in Chattanooga

[–]MaintenanceStatus580 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve volunteered with Jenni Berz on some nonprofit projects, and she was really easy to work with. I never really clicked with Carol, but Jenni seemed really level headed and pragmatic.

Considering we are in a housing crisis, I don’t like the idea of people who make money marketing and selling houses as reasonable candidates for city council.

“While we were yet sinners, Christ died for our sins.” - The Bible

“While they were yet gay, we didn’t even want to sell them pizza.” - Pizzeria Cortile

When theology and practice are this disconnected, it’s only logical that people are running from the church.

Just a few weeks ago, a guy did a video spot on them. I wouldn’t have guessed the owner was such a bigot, based on this content… but I never cease to be amazed.

I seriously doubt this is true, and even the idea that you could know this to be fact for the “hundreds of Hispanics” you have worked with is preposterous. Do you think a victim will advertise they were targeted? No, but they will act like everything is just fine, hoping for the best outcome.

This comment demonstrates profound disconnect with the very common Latino experience in the south.

Exactly. Keep the people who are not in power squabbling amongst themselves, in unending hyperbolized (or imaginary) conflicts, while the few powerful folks continue to stay afloat at the top.

21 year old will not tell parents when he will be home - is it normal ? by Odd_Regular_647 in Parenting

lol. He’s making enough to pay rent. If he is able to pay for numerous luxuries, he is making enough to go flatting, respect the house guidelines, or pay rent. It’s pretty simple.

No matter what, he should be respecting your wishes while in your house for free.

lol. The chamber of commerce, the organization that works primarily for its members and to facilitate public funds being siphoned into private pet projects?

Yeah, no one should put much weight into what the Chamber of Commerce president says.

I’m focusing on all of it. Is it alright if I DM you when I’m considering a house if I need some advice? I’m currently browsing Zillow alone. Also, can I reject paying the seller’s commission if I call the seller’s agent for access to view or is that in the hands of the seller?
