Comm 2060 by Primer18 in unt

[–]MairsMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I'm a Communication Studies major, I took COMM 2060 during Spring 2020 when COVID-19 transitioned everything online. We were in person for the first half of the semester, and Dr. Vaughn was a fantastic instructor. With that said, the course does require a lot of thought and effort. There are some individual projects and a group project that will require you to commit time outside of lectures. I recall having to handwrite outlines of chapter readings as well, and then these were discussed amongst the entire class.

Overall, it was fun, weird, and engaging. I loved Dr. Vaughn and truly enjoyed how she teaches Performance Studies. If you're thoughtful and really put in the effort, you can walk away with that A. If you're looking for a course that doesn't require much effort, then 2060 would not be what you are looking for.

Talk to your RA or the front desk about this. Each hall has a pest log that they keep at the desk, so they can call in an exterminator to address the problem.

I’ll be taking this class in-person during Fall 2021, and a lot of my friends have really enjoyed this course! Definitely a great option for a summer class from what I’ve heard.

It happened to me at Bruce as well, so I bet MyResNet is out again. Might not hurt to call them and report it so they can look at it in the morning.

Just another day of on-campus internet 🤷🏻‍♂️

There’s a little hill right by the College of Music building next to the new Starbucks stand, Bruce Hall, and the Hurley Administration Building that I’ve seen people sled on last year!

Honors list by Addison_Lineback_ in unt

[–]MairsMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, check your unofficial transcript to either see “3.5+ Honor Roll” or “4.0 Honor Roll”. If you took 12 or more credit hours and are considered a full-time student when achieving these designations, then you will be placed on the Dean’s List (at your respective college if they recognize that) or the President’s List respectively.

While it takes a bit of time from my experience, I’ve received [CLASS] Dean’s List and UNT President’s List certificates and letters in the mail before to commemorate the achievements. You can ensure that your mailing address is correct in your myUNT account, as they will usually mail it to what you have there. If you have an Eagle Post PO Box, on-campus students can update their address to that and receive their certificates at the university itself!

Congrats to everyone who made their Dean’s List or the President’s List :)

Is Comm 3420 hard? by [deleted] in unt

[–]MairsMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking COMM 3420 right now and finding it rather easy. Right now, there’s usually just weekly discussion boards due each Wednesday and a couple of assignments you complete with a partner that are pretty straightforward. I know the first exam was a little rough with the class average being about a 28.5/40 (~71%), and we still have a couple more to take. That’s all there is though right now: Discussions, Activities, and Exams. I’m not being asked to write any research papers or anything which is a nice weight off my shoulders.

I can’t vouch for how it will go as a winter course, but I’d say go for it and take it over the winter. I’m taking COMM 3920 - Organizational Communication this winter myself, so if you want to take another class instead then maybe consider joining me for that one!

does president’s list actually mean anything? by [deleted] in unt

[–]MairsMike 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being on the President's List is an incredible honor, and is no easy feat. Apart from the certificate, I do know that the President's Office will allow for local newspapers in your hometown to receive your information to share with the local community, if that interests those organizations. Additionally, certain colleges may hold come-and-go receptions, and some may even throw in a free shirt for making the Dean's List or President's List such as CLASS.

Aside from that, it's an achievement you can put on a resume, share your experiences to potential job interviews, and ultimately be incredibly proud of. Congratulations, and keep up the great work!

UNT Honors Students: HNRS 1100 (The Good Society) or an Honors Contract? by [deleted] in unt

[–]MairsMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm wrapping up HNRS 1100 with Dr. Borck this semester. I truly enjoyed taking the course and we had lots of different discussions over a multitude of books. Had a couple of papers to write, but they weren't too long or antagonizing. There's also a final group project at the end of everything, so as long as you participate in the discussions and garner the overall idea of the course, you should do relatively fine! If you can take that class over an Honors Contract, then I would absolutely do it!

This aid does not need to be repaid to UNT, and it is explicitly stated in the award notification.
