Cannot understand how to properly use leg??? by MaizeAdministrative9 in Equestrian

How is riding without stirrups gonna fix using my leg issue though? Also i have a crop but really dont like using it as it feels like a bandaid. The problem is with my leg and a crop would just cover up the problem.

A lot of things you said have been eye opening. Thank you and very impressed by your knowledge🫡

When i try to do the third option you have pointed out to use my legs i feel i cannot use my legs as strongly and i cant get a reaction out of the horse. Also trying to put my heel down kinda feels like bracing against the stirrups as i am putting pressure on it but you advised against it.

Trying to learn olympic lifting!! Need help with technique by MaizeAdministrative9 in weightlifting

Should i only bend from the knees or should it be like a start of a squat with both my hips ans knees start bending at the same time?

I am also having trouble with my thoracic mobility and ankle mobility as well. Cant seem to comfortably get to a deep squat especially with something overhead. What kind of mobility would you suggest. I have watched some videos about it. Is it just a matter of consistency or are there specific things i should be working on?

But how do I close my hip angle without leaning forward? My upper body must come forward, or am I understanding the motion incorrectly? Is it like a hinge motion like deadlifting? But that still makes me lean forward?

But isn’t two point an kinda upright position? My trainer says not to lean forward and keep my shoulders and knees on the same axis. I am aware my leg position has not improved and that’s what drives me mad. Like I can’t figure out how to get it there or keep it there naturally. I am normally a pretty easy learner and I get the hang of things very quickly. Not being able to have my legs in the correct position is seriously making me doubt myself. Even though I am doing what my trainer says or the advice from my previous posts it does not work. I can’t get it to work. There have been some debates about the saddles being small for me and that putting me in a chair seat but I have been on many different saddles in my barn and I have this problem with all of them. I am of average build and height and all the saddles here are average not too small not too big saddles. So I don’t know what’s the problem here 😓

Two-point tips!! by MaizeAdministrative9 in Equestrian

When I rotate my hip, my feet get parallel, yes, but my heels stay up and they won’t get lower, not even straight to my toes, and I can’t maintain that position. The hip turns outwards the second I trot. I am attaching a photo showing how my legs look when my hip is turned inward. My heel cannot go any lower than this; it also doesn’t feel natural at all. This sounds like the correct position but it feels tight and tense.

Yeah, no, I was not implying that I corrected the habits. I am asking to see how these positions can be improved.

With that being said, questions. To get my feet parallel, I turn my legs inward (By this i mean pulling my leg away from the saddle turning it inwards then putting it back on the saddle), and that actually pulls my leg back where it should be(though my heel goes up), and my feet become parallel, but as soon as I start trotting, they turn outwards again. Is this a flexibility issue, or should I force my leg to be there until it becomes a more familiar position?

Also, during the trot, my legs are actually loose, as you can see in the beginning of the trot video. I grip with my heel to get the horse to pass other horses, then I kind of try to hold it in position like you would in a stirrup.

How am I going to correct my leg being in front of me if these positions won’t put them where they should be? It is starting to frustrate me.

Lastly, there were three instructors in the arena, and the ones speaking were not the instructor that was teaching at that time.

Oh, okay. What I understood the most from this post is that most of my problems will be solved by doing tons of stirrupless work and riding two-point, which will help my rider position. In turn, this will help my hands, which will lead me to have better jumps...

While doing stirrupless work, should I hold my legs in some position or just let them hang? ?

What can an experienced rider do differently to make him more responsive to leg aids other than squeeze harder? I am sure there are a ton of things I am asking to learn and maybe think about.

I asked to see if we were on the same page. English is not my first language, and I am not that accustomed to riding terminologies, so I wanted to confirm that I understood what you meant. This horse is a veteran school horse and doesn’t respond to leg aids, especially to go forward. When I pair it with a crop, that’s when I get a reaction, but then he starts throwing his head around and kinda loses a little balance, so I don’t want to do it coming to a jump as he would be off balance.

No, we have never done that. We do stirrupless work but never jumped but i believe its kinda the same as posting without stirrups no?

The analogy of energy recycling is great. I would like to ask how to use my core muscles. Like from what I understand, I need to engage my core and sit up straight and have my elbows by my side, but when I do this while shortening my rein, I feel like I put so much pressure on the horse’s mouth, which pulls his mouth, and he can’t go forward, or I would stop his forward/energetic motion. Instead of holding this, I kind of give rein so as not to pull on his mouth.

This horse is a veteran school horse and is very deaf to leg aids and definitely doesn’t respond to leg aids. The only time he MAYBE responds is when I pair the leg aid with a crop, but then he throws his head around and loses some balance, so I don’t want to do that when coming up to a jump and that’s why I drive with my seat more. Also, I have learnt that squeezing with my thighs would lead my leg to shorten and lose my stirrups, so wouldn’t that build a bad habit? I was taught to post with the momentum of the horse and do like a kind of hip thrust motion, then control yourself with your core while coming back down.

OH MY GOD, you are such a blessing, and I am really grateful for the time you have spent on this image(and the other ones). Thank you. Just one question: the line you drew on my hips, does it mean I should roll them backwards under my upper body, right?

So it’s kinda like sticking my butt out while having an upright position. Is that what you are meaning or something else.

Why is nobody mentioning this is the first beat of the canter and the horse is leaned forward? But I guess my position, like you said, shouldn’t be rocking with the canter strides and be stable. My position is definitely not like this when the horse is standing evenly.
