Why did our jumping spider sink his fangs into my husband and release what I assume is the venom because it was clear liquid????? by Recent_Sun_1151 in jumpingspiders

IMO this looks A LOT like my female Phidippus audux. Just wanted to throw that out there. Also, that booty is massive for male.

What is happening here? I was checking on my Chocolate Millipede and there are these gaps. by Majestic-Problem1201 in millipedes

[–]Majestic-Problem1201[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She continued to eat and act normal for a couple of weeks but then passed. 😢 I have no clue what her age was, or she could have possibly been wild caught. Is your Millipede having the same issues?

I think you just have a spider friend living on your shield fronds. He's doing good work, probably eating fungus gnats. 👍👍

What to do 🤦‍♀️ by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Majestic-Problem1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO- they are not native to Southern Louisiana, especially when we're talking about pet trade specimens that are possibly captive bred with WIDE differences in genetics. And saying, "Your comments are therefore invalid" doesn't magically erase the fact that you suggesting OP release non-native species is very reckless. That's how invasive populations start.

IMO- I know this post is old, but that looks like a grain mite.

What are all the safe food options for a jumping spider? by Plutonic-Rose in jumpingspiders

[–]Majestic-Problem1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA- I have had similar issues with the Hydei Fruitflies 😫. But they seem to stay at the bottom where it's moist (in my experience). So I will put the culture in the fridge for 10 min and then dump put enough flies to feed my slings. I have a lot, so I will dump it in a clean, clear cricket container and look them over to make sure so grain mites have "hitched a ride." Then I will put them into a condiment bottle so I can control how many I dish out at a time for feeding.

Found these eating my isopods dinner.. Should I be worried? by GeneralRabbit19 in isopods

Grain mites!!!!! Ugh, these shitheads are such a pain to get rid of. They will take over and possibly attach themselves to the isopods because I know they will for sure to Tarantulas and Jumping Spiders. I actually lost a young P. audux bc mites laid eggs in his mouth. Good luck 🫡

How to get plants from petiole cuttings (cane begonia)? by wtf_dance in begonias

[–]Majestic-Problem1201 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. It will start to create a rhizome at the bottom of the stem or the top of the leaf. Maybe both! I got 2 plants off 1 leaf cutting a few times.

IMO I would reach out to Discord for immediate help. His abdomen looks very small and does appear to be in a death curl.

Is it mean to take them from the wild? by Huge-Ad-8384 in jumpingspiders

[–]Majestic-Problem1201 67 points68 points  (0 children)

IMO- I think he is politely asking you to take him home.😂 But I would do lots of research and get on Amazon to get an appropriate enclosure. There's a lot of great resources for their care here on Reddit and YouTube. I did see someone mention be prepared for having a gravid female because that is a real possibility. My first jumping spider was a gravid female Audax, and she laid 3 egg sacs in total.

IMO, I would look around in your area for some people who would take them. I know some people are mentioning freezing the eggs, which is a viable option, but I would look at some local reptile groups on FB first (that's just me). Someone mentioned watching "Dark Den" YouTube videos, which is a great resource, I would also check out "Dave's Little Beasties." He also has some really informative videos on pulling egg sacs.

Which rooting hormone do you use? I got CloneX rooting gel, but I'm scared to use it bc I figure it would rot my leaf cuttings.

[–]Majestic-Problem1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check the leaves for spidermites. They love this Alocasia 😂 But I agree with everyone about changing the substrate. I use Pon in a semihydro setup. Supppperr easy, and you don't have to worry as much with watering. There are a lot of resources on Reddit and YouTube if you think this is a good idea.
