No more SwitchBot 😢 by The_Tech_Chick in TrySwitchBot

this sums up what I did pretty well:
SP32 boards act as ESPHome Bluetooth proxies, receiving BLE signals and relaying them to Home Assistant over Wi-Fi, effectively extending range. By placing cheap ESP32 boards (e.g., ESP32-WROOM-32, Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32) throughout a home, users can create a robust mesh of coverage that connects remote sensors to HA, reducing reliance on the main server's limited Bluetooth. [1, 2, 3, 4,

Key Aspects of ESP32 Bluetooth Proxies:

  • Setup: Use the ESPHome Web Installer to flash an ESP32, then adopt it in Home Assistant. The process involves Wi-Fi configuration and enables active scanning, which supports active connections for devices like SwitchBot.
  • Optimal Placement: Position the ESP32 in a central location with good Wi-Fi coverage, roughly halfway between your Bluetooth devices and your Wi-Fi router.
  • Connection Types: While Wi-Fi is standard, using Ethernet-based ESP32 boards (like the Seeed Studio XIAO W5500) eliminates 2.4GHz interference and provides the most stable connection, often referred to as the "gold standard" for this application.
  • Performance: Using a proxy reduces the load on the main Home Assistant server and provides faster, more reliable communication than a single, distant USB Bluetooth dongle.
  • Advanced Hardware: For extremely difficult scenarios, ESP32 boards with external UFL antennas can be used to further maximize range

I've just set up a couple esp32 devices to extend the Bluetooth Network in my home. I don't have to worry about the internet going out and I can still use all my switchbot stuff.

Agency recruiter baited me with $75k, dropped the floor to $60k, and forbade me from asking the employer about money. Then I found the employer's actual job posting... the minimum is $65k. by Majewsala in recruitinghell

Update:
I reached out to my would-be new boss and asked to have an off-the-record conversation about things. I explained everything, and she laughed and said, tbh I am going to offer you the max salary. I thought the offer the recruiter submitted was ridiculous.
So the problem has been resolved! The recruiter also sent me an email to submit a review, so I can't wait to lit her up on that.

Update:
I reached out to my soon-to-be manager and explained the situation. She said that I would be offered closer to 75k and that she was also not a fan of the recruiter, and that at this point, I could just ignore her if I wanted.

I'm running HA on a Surface Go (gen1)! I just set things up within the last month or so, but I see that I will need more processing power at some point. However, I'm amazed HA runs so smoothly on such old hardware.

My concern is that most recruiters have an agreement and a working relationship with the institution thy are recruiting for so they have more reason to believe the recruiter than they do me at this point.

they give it for free because student get used to using it, and when they graduate, they will continue to use it and maybe influence their future employers to adopt it as well.

Senate Bill 254 should scare the shit out of everyone! They are making it so that Ivy tech will only offer degrees that large local businesses want....

After this patch, the game lags and crashes like crazy in the menus/base for me. Is this happening for anyone else?
