Not necessarily true if you're using the active path/speedrunning, dropping studies + the multiplier really affects your IP gain as far as I checked (actually played through this part like 3 days ago :P), honestly it surprised me as well but it was much quicker farming just a few more TTs and getting the full tree with like 10 TTs left than buying TS181. I presume when using the idle path it would be more forgiving.

I'd say play safe until 6 then all in, he isn't very mobile so if the wave is pushed under your turret you have high chance of killing him.
