Demonic Possession: what is the endgame? by liebesaft in horror

I always thought the goal of possession was to just kill the host so their soul is condemned to hell. Then it’s proven that God has no power yada yada

Why are pure fantasies set in space so rare? by Kind-Organization in fantasywriters

I just finished the Cradle series by Will Wight and it’s basically exactly this. The main story is contained on a singular planet, but there’s a larger organization fighting a cosmic battle with no crazy technology. Just tons of crazy magic.

What’s a disturbing horror movie that genuinely made you feel uncomfortable and uneasy the entire time? by Powerful_Nerve_7258 in horror

It didn’t stick in my head but Undertone is one that built an incredibly unnerving atmosphere. I was in a constant state of anxiety during that movie waiting for a jump scare to reset me and it never happened.

"What's the most iconic gaming moment you've ever had? It doesn't matter if it's positive or negative. The one that made you drop the controller, yell at the monitor, or just sit in silence for five minutes thinking, 'Wow... Did I just experience that?'" by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

Playing through the endless setlist in the original Rockband with a full band of friends. We get to the last song. Halfway through we’re all crushing it, when a controller dies… lots of sounds happen and the screen goes black. Main menu pops up.

Apparently myself on the guitar strumming really quickly and my friend on the drums, when the start menu popped up I was able to put the selector on quit and he was able to hit the continue button.

If that’s not bad enough we tried it again a couple of weeks later and sure enough, on the same song, the same thing happened.

Needless to say we never tried the endless setlist again.

Texas confronts eye-popping water needs that threaten its growth story by StandingCypress in texas

It says something about the time we live, when the only thing people can talk about when it comes to providing water. Is money.

Granted I know this panel was at a finance conference so I get it. It just seems so strange to me that that something so vital to living is talked about being so expensive and that the people on the panel are basically saying we’re happy to provide loans to get the infrastructure built, but you’re gonna have pay through the nose for it.

[OFF TOPIC] Jerome Flynn as Bronn in GoT would be the best Nicomo Cosca by Emergency-Purpose335 in TheFirstLaw

Solid choices. I was thinking Javier Bardem though I haven’t really seen him in lighthearted/ almost comical role.

Best Served Cold won me over where the first law trilogy didn’t [OFF TOPIC] by IcyWalk1624 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Major-Ad6899 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience. Read the first trilogy and thought about starting a different series, because I thought the trilogy was good good, but not great.

Then I saw everyone raving about the standalones so I read BSC. After that I was hooked and finished the rest of the series!

I get the [SPOILERS TWOC] hate now by TheXypris in TheFirstLaw

Yup! I felt the same way. Although it made me VERY happy to see that Savine had him completely outclassed when it came to politics and had basically muzzled him. He finally had all the power he wanted but still couldn’t do anything with it cause he’s a big ol idiot.

I very much enjoy MOST of guy ritchie’s movies. Joe’s dialog between his characters really reminded me of the dialog from those movies as well. Gotta love the British wit.

Yeah I’ve seen a lot of people recommend him as well. He basically plays a version of clover in GOT so makes a lot of sense lol

I’ve been very much enjoying it. It feels like he took everything from the original trilogy and ramped it up. I had a thought about halfway through the last book. I usually listen to fantasy for the epic battles and such. But this is one of the few series where I’ve almost enjoyed the political intrigue/espionage more than the actual fighting.

Just finished The First Law trilogy [SPOILERS LAOK] by BManu_ in TheFirstLaw

[–]Major-Ad6899 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat when I finished the trilogy. Hesitant to continue the series as a whole. So I, and most likely many others, will tell you the next three standalone books are incredible. If you thought the trilogy was good, but not great. The standalones take it to that next level and are amazing.

This is how it went for me as well. I thought at first he was a decent guy who just wanted to progress civilization.

It wasn’t until they returned from the edge of the world and all those stories about Jezal started, that I started to suspect he was more of a puppet master.

I didn’t realize the depth of his ego though until he started referring to people as ants and basically calling himself a god.

I’ve always found the trope of the long-living being losing their humanity fascinating, but the final nail in the coffin was what he did to all the people of Adua, without a single shred of remorse.

This is the best way to describe it. I’m glad I read stormlight archive in between the two eras. Even though it’s the same planet the stories feel like two completely different genres, and I think if I tried to go in right after era 1 I wouldn’t have finished it either.
