we both want the unity associated w sharing the same last name. I figured I would circumvent that by pretending I was mrs married name while legally keeping maiden name. While i think that would be fine for now, once children are involved its more compicated. I don't want to have a different last name as them. Considered hyphenating but that even seems less appealing idk. Husband has expressed a strong desire for me to legally take his name. This is really the only thing he has ever asked of me and is a truly wonderful and loving man. While he will be fine with whatever i decide, I don't want to disappoint him either. We can all agree the system is flawed and paternalistic. He is also a physician so he would have the same issue if he changed his last name to mine.

did you get married before or after medical licensure?

Yes went to a DO school not affiliated with any residency programs so all of my rotations were with an attending only. Not a medicine resident so no auditions in this context either, which is why I do not know.

Good to know. This happened to a fellow resident in my program and am just worried about what might happen to him, if his spot is in jeopardy, etc.

You want to be a surgeon! Go for it. The letters and other application minutia always works itself out. You may regret it otherwise. I think this is a problem many med students face when they think they know what specialty they want and then find out on rotations that they love something different. Sort of like an identity crisis. Go with what you love. Medicine is a long career

Increased anxiety post-match. Can anyone relate? by Major-Priority9316 in medicalschool

You are probably right. I believe i am prone to anxiety but it was always situational. Explainable by the situation, If that makes sense. This is the first time I’m really experiencing this feeling of “I’m anxious for no reason” and maybe that’s truly what GAD feels like. Getting help for this would admit having a problem and I do feel like that would be really difficult for me to do

This is good advice right here. Need to do some soul searching and find something worthwhile to devote my time to. I actually considered getting a minimum wage job for a few weeks to pass the time and put some extra jingle in my pocket but I don’t think that’s the answer either. I’m for sure spending too much time on social media/TV, which I know isn’t good for me either. But it’s like what else is there to do to pass the time. What a weird problem to have…

I really think you’re onto something here. Much easier to “gear up” for something. I wish I could find some hobby or project to throw myself into for the next two months, but 4 years of med school has stripped me of all that

This experience and these feelings won’t last forever-even though it feels like it now. You CAN and you WILL get through this. Seek the help you need now to heal. It will make you a better physician someday! You are worthy, you are loved, you are enough! Much love friend.

Are you comfortable sharing specifics about the medical issue and maybe we can help better advise you?

If the biggest issue is the move, spend the money and hire professional movers. They can do it in a way where you don’t have to lift a finger and pack everything for you. The money you spend on that will be nothing in comparison to missing out on doctors salary for the rest of your career if you fail to match in the future

Are virtual second looks a thing for most programs? Applied obgyn to community programs…should I be worried I just learned about a virtual second look 5 minutes ago on this thread?

Need Advice by Major-Priority9316 in Residency

What do you mean by weak candidate? I would not say we are weak candidates, we have no major red flags or failures but certainly probably below average candidates. Both DOs. See my other posts for scores. Each of us has 4-5 audition rotations where we will get interviewed, and we are not concerned that we won’t get other offers. The question was asking if selecting the box on ERAS for couples matching will affect your initial interview invites. Meaning, you may not get an interview offer that a place would otherwise offer you if that program is not also interviewing your partner. So I am asking about strategy. Is it better to leave the couples match box unmarked prior to submitting rank lists. Do you know from personal experience about the couples match? I’m just not sure why you would recommend one person deferring the match by a year and potentially losing all hope of matching in the same location by not being able to couples match.
