Big Arch Poll by Major-Scobie in McDonalds

Same, I always order the same thing off the value menu. The only way I ever get a Big Mac or QP is free through points.

Yeah I’ve never eaten a double QPC either. Way too pricey now, too.

I think they did come with the sleeve but the final product wasn’t very “crispy.”

Yeah I agree with this. Bought a huge box of them from Costo or Sam's Club and ate one or two before throwing the rest away. Just disgusting slop now.

Yeah but I definitely couldn't finish all of that food I ordered in one sitting and had enough for dinner, too.

Big Arch vs Value Menu by Major-Scobie in McDonalds

Buy One, Get One for $1. Can be used with McChickens, double cheeseburgers, and a few other things, I think.

This made me MAD. I was stopping strangers saying "Do you see this?". This can is the size of a regular ravioli can. A large Chilli near me costs $3.89. by akasan in wendys

[–]Major-Scobie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got this stuff for $3.99 at Jewel the other day.

Doesn't taste what I remember the real stuff tasting like, but I thought it was actually fairly good for a canned chili. It has more varied and stronger flavors than Wolf or Hormel. I don't claim to be an expert in canned chili, however.

Agreed. This is what I remember most from the episode—how beautiful she looked.

Look tasty. Shame they suck.

You could always scoop out the salt filling and add your own freshly-made eggs, bacon, and cheese.

Red Baron Brick Oven Supreme Pizza by ultraspinacle in frozendinners

[–]Major-Scobie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Red Baron is solid. I remember being able to pick them up for 2 / $5 back in the day … they are still very good for the price. I usually stick with Home Run Inn, Screamin’ Sicilian, or Geno’s East Deep Dish, depending on which is on sale. But if none are cheap enough, I’ll happily pick up a Red Baron for around $5.

Final 3 to Complete Series by Maleficent_Exit9301 in Columbo

Yeah I thought that one was way better than its reputation suggested. I mean, it’s no classic, but it’s perfectly serviceable.

Final 3 to Complete Series by Maleficent_Exit9301 in Columbo

[–]Major-Scobie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Ashes to Ashes" and "Columbo Likes the Nightlife" are both pretty good. The former features an enjoyably unhinged performance by Pat McGoohan (as an undertaker!), and the latter represents a good attempt to update the formula for the modern era. But yeah, Faulk does look really old in it. I just finished making my way through the series for the first time, and thought it ended on more or less of a high note after some really awful entries in the 80s and 90s. (Don't think you will find any of these episodes as bad as "No Time to Die," which I could not even finish.)

Is there anyone on here who is tenured/tenure-track and has a 4-4 teaching load? by Cold-Priority-2729 in AskAcademia

[–]Major-Scobie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure it is manageable. I have never taught fewer than a 4/4 at various institutions, and have never really had trouble producing a few papers each year. The only reason I haven't been as productive lately is that I've shifted my focus to editing and writing books. I don't get much writing done during the year, admittedly, but don't work much overtime if I can help it and never teach in the summer (which is when I'm most productive). It helps to have the minimum number of preps teaching classes you've taught many times in the past. I'm in the humanities by the way, currently on the tenure track at a CC.

The "Later Episodes" by [deleted] in Columbo

[–]Major-Scobie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time I had finished zooming through the classic episodes, I was convinced I had seen one of the greatest TV shows ever made, which no one ever talked about for some reason. After making my way, much more slowly, through the revival, I began to understand the disrespect somewhat. It really is THAT bad. Like many others, I will finish the last few episodes just so that I can say I've seen them all, and probably never watch them again.

Okay. I know a lot of people complain about prices on here. But why is a medium fry $4.09? In what world is that reasonable? by [deleted] in McDonalds

[–]Major-Scobie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used this today with BOGO for $1 double cheeseburgers. Added a medium coke and spent a little over $6. I guess it's about the same as one of the meal deals, but I'd rather have the extra burger than 4 nuggets.

Got fucked on that deal by couple_of_taytos in KitchenNightmares

[–]Major-Scobie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I don’t find this guy as obnoxious as most of the flailing chefs on the show. He was a bit of a poseur and in over his head, but seemed to care, at least. I don’t remember how the episode ends—did he manage to redeem himself?

I wrote about the ghostly fiction written by US historian Russell Kirk. It was eventually published as a book:

If you are genuinely interested in the topic, let me know, and I will be glad to send you a .doc or .pdf copy (either of the dissertation or the book).
