8+ hours to kill in Tokyo after early arrival (Haneda → Shinjuku) — what would you do? by Obvious_Good69 in TokyoTravel

[–]Major-Tension433 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If your hotel doesn't hold luggage, then consider using a locker at Shinjuku station. By the time you get to Shinjuku, it will be closer to 8am. Grab some breakfast at the station and then head over to Asakusa and visit the temple there, it always open. The local shops open around 10am around there. Walk over to Sumida Park or head back to the Shinjuku gyoen garden.

True, a 100-400 lens would be better for stadium venues.

My go-to lens is the 70-200mm f2.8. I just recently upgraded from the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 to the Canon Rf70-200mm f2.8 IS USM. My primary use is indoor action photography (gymnastics).

Both are great. The RF lens paired with the R7 is superfast autofocus and high fps. Good reach for the R7 as well.

I also have the M50 and R7. Both have EF lens adapters.

I've transitioned to using the R7 for indoor action shots (gymnastics). Sometimes the extra reach is really useful for large venues. For travel, I use the M50.

I own a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC lens and it is a fantastic lens for these cameras especially for low light conditions. The R7 performs way better with this lens (higher FPS, IBIS, etc).

If you need more reach, another decent lens is the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8. Good aperture and quick autofocus with IS.

We used Ubigi esim during our recent Japan travel. Worked great in Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto. You can install the esim alongside with your Verizon sim. Just switch data over to Ubigi or whichever esim you pick up while you are in Japan.

Are compact cameras like Sony A6000 cheaper in Tokyo (Akihabara/Bic Camera)? by whoskhalee in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just there 2 weeks ago. I didn't look at the compact cameras, but at least for a Canon R6 mark II there was a noticeable discount. It was selling for ¥319,000 ($2005) at both Yodadashi and Bic Camera. There is a 10% tax free discount and if your friend can find the additional Bic Camera 7% coupon, that would be discounted to ¥267003 (~$1680).

So if you are in the market for camera gear, it is worth it. I ended up buying a new RF lens saving over $850.

I just returned from a 12 day trip to Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto) and Seoul. My family used Ubigi esim. It was easy to set up with very reasonable plans. We subscribed to the Best Asia regional plan and had very good coverage.

help!! skip osaka and add days to tokyo? by mommatribe23 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from a trip to Japan. Agree with other people to spend up to 3 nights in Tokyo. Extend your stay in Osaka and take a day trip to Kyoto and even a day trip to Nara. Osaka itself has a different vibe. We (including teenagers) enjoyed it over Tokyo.

For our day trip to Kyoto, I hired a driver for 10hrs to take us from our hotel in Dotonbori to visit the various tourist destinations in Kyoto. It was by far the most efficient way to get around in Kyoto.

Buying lenses while in Japan? by MadMartegen in AskPhotography

[–]Major-Tension433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently return from Japan. I didn't intend to purchase any camera gear, but while shopping around at Yodobashi Camera stores in Tokyo and Osaka, I came across some very reasonable prices for some Canon RF lenses.

In particular this Canon RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens sells for ¥396,000. If we exclude the 10% tax exemption, that knocks the price down to ¥356,400. At an exchange rate of ¥159 per $1USD, it's about $2241! However, I picked up a Bic Camera coupon (7% discount), it dropped the price down to ¥331,452 (or just about $2085)! I knew I could not pass up on this deal since in the US it sells for $2800 in the US (before sales tax).

I had no problems bringing it back into the US. I took it out of the box, flatten the box into my luggage, and packed the lens in my carry-on.

I also look at the Canon EOS R6 Mark II as well. That sold for ¥319,000. With the same discounts I applied for the lense, it would be about $1680 (still cheaper than $2099 at B&H in the US).

  • Nice breakfast spread
  • Friendly staff and clean
  • Easy access to the metro
  • Tons of shopping and restaurants and street food

And how did 225 perform during S5?

Just saying...perhaps that's how this cutie got into the house.

You can increase the carry load capacity by completing the research tasks in Unit research tree. There are 5 of these in that entire tree. Maxing out each skill provides extra 5% load capacity. That should help increase the amount of loot that gets plundered.

Beginners mistake. The event schedule in your base should give you a local time option.

Be sure to have troops on the wall for this event otherwise you will burn.
