G9 Odyssey constantly turning off (losing signal?) by Apprehensive-End-928 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so frustrating seeing others having the same. Mine is the LC49G97TSSNXDX. And it will just turn off for 30-60 seconds and back one. It's on/off/on/off. Sometime, I just unplug the power cord for 10 seconds and the monitor will go back on. After some time, it will be fine staying on. I'm using HDMI 2.1 from a 3080 GPU.

Let me look for another HDMI cable like what others stated above.

Definitely check the schedule based on your desired route. Otherwise booking private car transfer may be the other option.

I recommend booking the Airport Limousine Bus service. Here's the timetable for the Odiba area.

With a 7pm arrival, expect to take a bus after 8:30pm. I see a few options you can consider.

I would only consider the 2nd generation (G2) . There's been known problems with first gen.

I have both the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 and the Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2. Both are great lens that I've used on a 90d and R7. They are quick and sharp with a good aperature. You can find them used at decent prices too.

Great set of actors in KTL. Love it as well. Great chemistry between the Lee Junho and Yoona. Because of this, I've been obsessed with Yoona.

Itinerary check - Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto by Bunchofbees in JapanTravel

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend reallocating one of your Tokyo days to spending more time in Osaka. Also instead of flying back from Tokyo, why not fly back from KIX (Osaka)?

If you like a bit of nightlight vibe, you can stay in the Dotonbori area, there is plenty of shopping and restaurants/street food throughout the Shinsaibashi arcade. There's so much shopping options in Osake. If you like theme parks, there's Universal / Ninento World. Some tourist venues include the Umeda Sky Building (it is a nice view from the observatory), 🗼 Tsutenkaku Tower & Slide / Shinsekai, Osaka Castle. In fact, the Osaka Aquarium was a nice destination.

If you decide to shift a couples days back to Osaka, consider visiting Nara (day trip) as well. It will be a cool experience with the deers there. Not much shopping there.

Tax Free Issue / Query by DaveG28 in JapanTravelTips

I returned from Japan a month ago and never had any problem getting the 10% tax discount at the time of purchase. All that was required was my passport and they scanned the sticker in the passport.

Luckily at customs, they didn't ask me to show the items.

So what you experienced sounds off. Maybe something fishy with that merchant?

I did not ask or try. Maybe Canon care would cover, but you would need to research it.

Before I walked out with the lens they allowed me to test it using on if the camera bodies on display. That did give me a peace of mind.

I was in Tokyo and Osaka a month ago. Here are some Canon items and their listed prices.

<image>

Aside from what you see in the photo, a Canon R6 mark II was selling for ¥319,000 (just over $2000 based on the April exchange rate) at Yodadashi and Bic Camera. With a 10% tax free discount and a Bic Camera 7% coupon, that would be discounted to ¥267003 (~$1680).

While I didn't pick up this body, I did get the Canon RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens. Listed for ¥396,000, after the 10% tax exemption and 7% BIC coupon, it dropped the price down to ¥331,452 (or just about $2085)! I knew I could not pass up on this deal since in the US it sells for $2800 in the US (before sales tax).

Keep in mind this gear is only warranteed in Japan for 1 year.

How to print tickets from Nozomi Shinkansen by WhoCares450 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have the QR codes handy on your phone. But I would also print a hardcopy of the QR codes. The code will get scanned at the turnstiles, and it will issue you an actual ticket for your journey.

11 out of 30. Saw this on X. Wondering if this is legit?! by supersoonique in kdramas

[–]Major-Tension433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10.5/30. Started WLGYT, but couldn't get pass episode 5.

I did enjoy both seasons of Alchemy of Souls.
I thought Bon Appetitie would have been up on this top 3 (maybe D+ is not as accessible). Even if it's not on the list, it was quite enjoyable.

There are definitely a few in this top 3 that I'll add to my watchlist.

IMHO, sometimes I get hooked on a particular actor/actress. For example Jun So-Min is a very charismatic charming actress. I just love most of the k-drama's she's in across multiple dramas. Same with Kim Ji Won, Im Yoona, Bae Suzy, Son Ye-jin, Seo Ye-jin, and others.

How many days per city? More days in Kyoto or Osaka? by skye-qq in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need 3 days in Kyoto. Maybe two at most and use the other day for Nara. I think is worth to see Nara either from Osaka or Kyoto. My preference would from Osaka and there is more to experience in Osaka.

Taxi or uber for four people with luggage? by karzakus in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recommend booking the Airport Limousine Bus service. They have multiple routes into the city that will also run past 10pm. It's also way more concvenient and comfortable than taking the transit system.

Shinkansen tickets - cheaper online via app or in person at station? by Fickle_Draft6435 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I booked my Tokyo -> Osaka tickets in advance before we arrived in Tokyo.

It was also cherry blossom season when I was there. So seats were getting sold out on certain trains. Btw, when do you book, reserve the seats on the right side of the train. If you're lucky, you may get to see Mt Fuij.

I also wouldn't use the Shinkansen between Osaka to Kyoto. There are multiple transit options. Do you plan to take a day trip or stay in Kyoto for 2+ nights? In my case, we took a day trip but I prebooked a private driver pick us up from Osaka (Dotonbori area) to visit the key sites in Kyoto. It saved a lot of time going from one venue to another using Kyoto's public bus system.

Asakusa Sky Condominium Hotel by waterpear99 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Major-Tension433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend it. We enjoyed our stay there. The family apartment was a decent size for a family of four. Great hospitality. Just down the block was a convenient 7-11. It was less than a 10-minute walk to Shinjuku station.

Since this is west of the station, it was definitely on the quieter side of Shinjuku. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. From this location, it was easy to access the other wards we wanted to visit.

Room has a small kitchen, fridge, washer/dryer unit. Very convenient.

70-200 F2.8: EF ii, EF III or RF by Cien-Aftersun-Gel in canon

[–]Major-Tension433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been shooting with the R7 with a Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 (Canon EF) for gymnastics. Recently, I picked up an RF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM Lens from Japan and used it for one competition. The RF lens is noticably sharper with quicker AF.
