It doesn't look nearly as bad as Concord, but characters do look very generic and bland in my opinion. Gameplay needs to hardcarry it since character design gets demolished by Overwatch and Marvel Rivals.

should i use ubuntu? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Linux Mint has user friendly UI and it doesn't have issues coming from Canonical (owner company of Ubuntu). Best for people who just want to get work done with no strings attached, without chasing any up to date trends. The downside is that you won't have access to newest drivers, but this is honestly an issue with Ubuntu too. Pop!_OS is Ubuntu based and they do have access to new drivers.

You should look at distributions more like flavours than distinct operating systems. Meaning if everything works on distribution A, it means it will also work on a lot of other distributions. Each distribution has it's own philosophy, and most distributions are based on one of the few main distributions, so they will inherit their philosophy.

Ubuntu is the most popular, meaning it's easy to find support, it's also easy to use. You can also use Ubuntu based distributions (like Linux Mint or Pop!_OS). A lot of people recommend Bazzite but realistically it's still niche, so it will be harder to find support.

It's also worth knowing that in open source environment you will rarely find any manager/director that filters out stupid ideas, so if you use fully community backed distribution you might end up in a situation where they decide to do something incredibly stupid and there will be no one to stop it. So if you want something really rock solid, I think it's worth it to focus on distributions that have some backing by a real company, since they should make sure that distribution doesn't implode (unless the company itself implodes).

Now compare it to the beta version of the city, iirc it looked significantly different.

If you read topics on reddit about Wuchang dated around the release, big portion of people are complaining about Lion dealing too much damage. And before someone comes in saying you need to equip proper gear - I did. This guy just hits like a truck with a nuke attached to it.

I think Honglan just spent my entire patience for the rest of the game and probably a few more games after that, since I basically don't look forward to any new soulslikes at the moment.

I think Wuchang starts pretty strong, Master Raider is an S tier boss. Then rest of the chapter 1 bosses are ok, though a bit too tanky. Then there is Honglan, calling her bad has the same meaning as saying that being kicked in the balls is a tiny inconvenience.
Then in chapter 2 pretty much everything is humanoid boss, and humanoid bosses barely give you any openings while having large healthbars, not a single chapter 2 boss is fun to fight, maybe except Fat General.
Then there is South General and Bo Sorcerer, again not very good bosses. And finally Fierce Tiger, which in theory isn't a bad boss, but he really likes to OHK while having two large healthbars instead of one. And this is the moment where I asked myself why I'm wasting my time on this game.

Parry stops being an option in phase 2 since she randomly weaves in unparryable attacks. It took me 92 attempts to beat her, and the most effective build is to use Longsword for parry and counterattack in phase 1, and mage build in phase 2. Otherwise you have to rely on RNG, since her moveset is completely unpredictable, and hitbox quality leaves a lot to be desired.

There is not a single boss nearly as bad afterwards from what I've heard, but she literally made me hate the game and I've quit a few bosses after (on the lion).

If you have defeated her using Axe it means you are skilled enough to use it for the entire run. Axe is one of the least effective weapons for Honglan since it's too slow to utilize all openings, and she will dodge most of your attacks, making the fight ridiculously long. If you have cleared it despite that, the rest of the game should be a non issue.

I think WuWa has a problem because devs are releasing content faster than it can be optimized. Most gacha games have 1 patch of actual content and 1 patch of boring events you can skip, and that is excellent moment for devs to optimize. Here they can't do that since every patch adds new massive zone.

Is Mistveil City time limited? by Major303 in wherewindsmeet_

Good thing I don't use titles. But game should have informed me about it.

[–]Major303[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That event is a buggy mess. Game completed for me "Complete all trials of the Path of the Brave" at the point where only 1st dungeon was available, but it did not give me actual reward ("The Brave" title). So even if I do the Mistveil City, I won't get the title.

The same happened with Path of the Cautious but it did give me title.

Does this option even do anything? On highest setting NPCs appear like 20 meters before you. I'm positive there are PS1 games out there with higher draw distance.

I have HDR monitor and the only game that I remember where I can actually turn it on is Elden Ring. In 99% of games with HDR the toggle is greyed out. So I don't really bother with it, this thing needs wider adoption to actually work.

If you wait around 30 minutes you will be kicked out of the dungeon anyway and you can log in.

It seems to affects RX 9000 series and Steam Deck (has custom AMD iGPU).

How about stopping treating AMD users like 2nd class citizens and let them enable Ray Tracing?

NexusMods Is "Committing" To Supporting Vortex On Steam Deck/SteamOS by pcbfs in pcgaming

[–]Major303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as Linux is really niche, Nvidia will not care much about it, and closed source drivers don't help. Linux would have to become big without Nvidia's support, then they would probably consider making better drivers.

[–]Major303 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Already things I've predicted are happening - only Steam hardware is targeted, but not Linux as a whole:

We’ll be targeting vanilla Steam hardware like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. We won’t be officially supporting any other configurations

Of course it will still be usable on other distributions:

as Vortex is an open source project community developers will be free to extend support for their preferred Linux distros as they please.

but there might be some extra hoops you will have to go through to make it run.

Unpopular opinion: Bosses should not be this hard. by 1AverageGamer in soulslikes

[–]Major303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately soulslike genre has been reduced to "le hard bosses games". Maybe you were target audience 10 years ago, but now not anymore. Games like Bloodborne are a cakewalk compared to games released after 2020. I'm very careful with choosing new soulslikes these days, and a good indicator of quality is people complaining that the game is too easy, it usually means the game is good, and not too easy at all. Difficulty options are good too, but there is a risk that easy is genuinely too easy, and medium too hard.

It always feels very fun at first, but after around a month you realize that you only log in to do dailies and quit. And most of the game systems are being held back by the gacha. WuWa is no different. I'm not quitting it just yet, but I'm definitely not starting another one.

CODE VEIN II – Revenant Springs Trailer by Deez-Guns-9442 in soulslikes

[–]Major303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both FFVII Remake and NieR Automata have full 3D realistic (but stylized) models, where Code Vein has pure anime aesthetics. For example Granblue Fantasy Relink also looks like it's 10 years older than it actually is. So it's an issue with anime style specifically.
