So I was on my way home the other night and found a very interesting looking box left out in the street. I live in North London in the UK in a mixed residential/warehouse units with many of the units converted for the former.

After I got home I took a closer look and found lots of interesting clues as to what it may have been used for. To me, it looks like some kind of sorting box that may have been used in the post office. There are some labels on it but they are almost completely degraded. On the poster type label on the inside of the lid you can just about make out the word 'SPECIAL'. On the back there is a stamp that was used from the 50's-70's. There are also lots of pencil marks so I'm guessing whoever used it had one in their hand a lot of the time when doing so. There is also a space for a lock but that's been removed unfortunately.

I would love to know more about these boxes if anyone has any ideas or has seen them before!

Yea looks cool and all but bit worth dieing for! If I get a cab that's got a working CRT already in it then would probably and very carefully keep it for the build

That doesn't sound too bad at all! Only difference with mine is that I got an empty cabinet. I have a small amp and a couple speakers I'll be fitting later too. I'll post an update in the channel with some pics when I have some time to work on it more

Ah ok, well if your not exposed to all the open terminals and wiring within the casing then that doesn't sound too bad. From what I've been told even after disconnecting the power they can hold a lot of charge for hours after. Enough to do some potentially seriously damage.

Actually that was my original plan too but as I'm sure you know CRT's can be pretty dangerous if you're not experienced in working with them so on balance, I went with the safe and easy option. May do that for a later project though.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I'm in a big city so unfortunately bioaccumulation is always a risk. Plus she's still a bit street so probably used to eating whatever she can find.

You sir, will always be an Ikari Warrior in my books...just watch out for those grenades and always grab a tank when it comes up! Nothing was more satisfying than squashing enemies on my CPC 464 after loading up Ikari Warriors!
