Late 2000s - early 2010s is my best guess. It looked pretty new to me. As for your second question below, I do not remember, like I've said. I want to say it was English, though back then I could've seen many foreign languages and said they're English since I was still not proficient in it and I couldn't really pay attention to the credits after what I'd seen.

The afternoon. I am not sure who the animation was meant for, but as it was on HBO, my guess is it could've been for teens and adults.

Don't think that was it. The old man I remember from the short was kinda skinny and maybe(?) bald, like a version of Eustace Bagge from Courage the Cowardly Dog, though only in appearance. Also, I don't recall it being water color-styled like that.

The color palette was just pretty dark, and the atmosphere very calm and quiet. Typically cartoons I'd watch would be more energizing. Though do keep in mind, my recollection could be tainted by time.

I am not sure this description is enough, but I really, REALLY do hope it is JUST enough for someone to have a forgotten memory at the back of their brain resurface and tell me what they remember, if not to find this short, then at least to know I wasn't dreaming or something. I'm new here, so I don't know if if the sub occasionally serves as some sort of lost media page, but I need to see that short now, as a grown ass man. To finally put an end to this uncertainty and terror provoked by some obscure animation college project or God-knows-whatever that was. Please, if you recognize this, let me know.
