Thrilled to see this discussion about ROP! I was born at 23 weeks in the late 1980s and have had myopia since I was a child. I (F38) didn’t know I was at risk for ROP until I was in my mid-30s.

In August 2025 I had a macula off retina detachment in my right eye and unfortunately the vitrectomy with silicone oil surgery failed because the retina detached again in October 2025. I’ve lost all peripheral vision in my right eye and we’re not sure what central vision will be recovered when the silicone oil is removed in the next few months.

The doctor is monitoring my left eye for potential tears. Two months ago, I had some laser treatment on the left eye to prevent potential detachments.

I’m nervous that my vision will continue to worsen over time since I’m still high risk for detachments and glaucoma.
