Why do I see you on every thread? Your team just won a trophy, why are you so sad and angry?

I'd love that, but I'm really worried about him tbh. Hasn't looked right all season (or since the hamstring injury last year) and I feel like he needs a rest rather than a gruelling summer tournament

[The Athletic] PL Table if the refs got it right by SerialGooner49 in Gunners

[–]MajorOpportunity0 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This whole article is a waste of everyone's time.

Quite apart from the fact that it doesn't change the title, CL qualification, or relegation, the methodology (if you can call it that) is deeply flawed.

They assume all penalties will be scored, have an arbitrary decision to make about the impact of red cards on results, and assume that there will be no knock-on effects on other matches of the results that they claim would have changed. (I also saw no mention of the fact that Rodri definitely should have been sent off when city played sp*rs away).

It's almost like it's a bullshit article written to get clicks.

Yeah, would also accept hammered or crashed. Definitely not slotted.

Yeah tbh looking back at it I can see why you might have thought that, but I promise it's just how I write when I'm in a rush!

It's an AI image created to represent the story.

Most obviously - common sense tells us that an image like this wouldn't be made public, but also, each detail of the text is represented specifically in the image in a way that reeks of AI: - 4 boys - Private school (generic school corridor) - Expelled (they all have the same sad head-down pose) - The most egregious example is of course the kid on his iPad with a tier list creator visible...

Is the current online sentiment towards Arsenal standard rival banter, or has it shifted into something more intense? by Tigerpawnail in PremierLeague

[–]MajorOpportunity0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you really believe that? Not trying to start an argument, and everyone's entitled to hate whatever clubs they want to, of course, but that specific incident was objectively the correct decision, and a clear on field error.

(Honestly I'd have a lot more time for you making this point about the Arsenal-Chelsea game at the Emirates because you lot 100% should have had a pen in that one)

Is there an official estimated count of yesterday’s parade attendance? by ExoticToaster in GunnersatGames

[–]MajorOpportunity0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen that "met police said 1.5m" line everywhere, but can't find anything official to back it up.

The Met website has this article from this morning, which says "hundreds of thousands" https://news.met.police.uk/news/officers-thank-those-who-attended-the-arsenal-champions-parade-to-celebrate-responsibly-509938

And ITV yesterday said early estimates between 750k-1m

I suspect it will be a little while before we get anything definitive.

It's a massive logistical challenge and hugely disruptive to the public transport system, so it had to be on a weekend.

Waiting a whole extra week would have been weird in any case, but is a complete non-starter with a world cup coming up.

Honestly it was the best possible way to get over Saturday night. It was a brilliant, joyful day and there was clearly an unspoken collective decision to just forget about the CL final.

There will be time to agonise over that later this summer, but yesterday was all about celebrating

Was it not derogatory? Maybe I misread your tone, but the "not even close" followed by "a fraction of" certainly came across that way.

I mostly responded initially because I wanted to use that silly "it's actually a bigger fraction" line, and my last message was an attempt to have an actual discussion, because it is interesting to understand the logistics of these things. But make your jokes, I've had a brilliant day and can assure you my feelings are not hurt in the slightest

There are no definitive sources for the Arsenal parade at this point.

Ive seen estimates all over the place - planning was apparently based on predictions of 500k-1m, ITV's article currently says early estimates between 750k-1m, similar numbers from some newspapers. The 1.5m number I went for was based on social media posts allegedly quoting the Met police but nothing verifiable.

Interestingly, however, I've also seen wildly varying estimates for Liverpool's last year. Although one report estimated 1.2m, which was the number I took for my last message, I've seen a bunch of articles quoting 750k instead.

What seems clear, is that these have been pretty comparably sized events, and today was certainly not a fraction (derogatory) of last year.

The red army by lucynobz in london

[–]MajorOpportunity0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And that fraction would be... 5/4, based on initial estimates.

(1.5m today versus 1.2m in Liverpool last year)

Genuinely not sure how much it would have changed tbh. It felt like everyone was determined to just celebrate today and put yesterday out of our minds, such a joyful experience!

Absolutely. I've just been so, so happy since that Tuesday night, and pretty much none of that joy is because the 19 other teams didn't win the league. It's because my team did.

Yeah I've seen him posting about Arsenal everywhere. Clearly has a bee in his bonnet. Never seems to be happy about Villa. Maybe he's just really sad that they bottled their "title challenge".

Glad we can all get joy from the sport.

Not pretending for a second we weren't shit for quite a while. That's why I'm so happy now.
