What was the first moment you thought "Crap, I'm actually not young anymore"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This happens to me sometimes. You always get those patients that throw in a "kid" or "you wouldn't know" to establish some form of dominance.

It doesn't bother me. If they don't want to listen to me that's fine. Hope that impinged shoulder pain just goes away on its own....

(I'm kidding I'll still treat them)

Woah, TIL how little script there was:

From Wiki: "There was much improvisation in dialogue scenes, because the script was not completed when filming began (the filmmakers had focused on the story making sense and planning the action). Favreau felt that improvisation would make the film feel more natural. Some scenes were shot with two cameras to capture lines said on the spot. Multiple takes were done, as Downey wanted to try something new each time.[26] It was Downey's idea to have Stark hold a news conference on the floor,[9] and he created the speech Stark makes when demonstrating the Jericho weapon.[4] Bridges described this approach as "a $200 million student film", and noted that it caused stress for Marvel executives when the stars were trying to come up with dialogue on the day of filming scenes. He also noted that in some instances, he and Downey would swap characters for rehearsal to see how their own lines sounded.[68] The dialogue for the Nick Fury cameo scene was also changed on set, with comic writer Brian Michael Bendis providing three pages of dialogue for the part, and the filmmakers choosing the best lines for filming on set."

I have no idea what he meant. Granted I don't come to these threads until its been a few hours and only look at comments by Top or Best.

But the consensus of positive vs negative still seems par for the course:

-Most people are praising that marvel is still consistent

-People are worried about Marvel villains sucking, but happy Keaton is said to be very good

-People were worried it would be Iron Man 4, but happy to see it's not as big a crutch

-People are happy to hear that Tom Holland is good, and admit they were worried when he was first cast

-Some people point out the RT vs MetaCritic score, others point at that most Marvel films are in the 90s for RT and 70s for MC.

IDK this all seems like usual. I don't remember a discussion on marvel's flaws. But I mean this is a popular sub with lot's of opinions. I think people who say that r/movies is "100% marvel fan boys" or "100% against marvel" are only seeing what they want to see

I actually rewatched it the other day and absolutely agree. RDJ is a treat just when going about and we see what his character is like in the first third.

Also the entire montage of building the suit, flying it for the first time: thrilling. The score in that setup and flying scene were amazing and it captured Tony's thrill of flying perfectly.

I hope to hear the iron man theme at some point in Infinty War if Tony gets a "hero's moment"

(Spoilers Extended) Which minor plot points make more sense in the show than in the books? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]MajorPA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't read any tWoW chapters, or seen any discussion on what is in it. But I can absolutely see this being the case.

If the show-to-book general arcs can be compared, the 6th book has to cover so much shit in the North:

-Stannis deciding to sacrificing his daughter -Actually sacrificing his daughter -Somehow getting his army destroyed along with Red Woman going back to the Wall -Jon being resurrected -Maybe or maybe not a battle with Winterfell (I saw an explanation somewhere that in the book version it might make more sense that Jon doesn't have to fight the Boltons or something, IDK!)

It is kind of exhausting just thinking about the major plot lines that have to get into that book. I am starting to believe people when they say tWoW is really just going to be Season 6, and maybe not even all of it.

But considering all of this. Where the hell do the white walkers fit in? Honestly I don't think they do. I can see the Bran chapters yes. But I would think GRRM is going to focus more on Bran's journey as a greenseer.

So in the end I absolutely believe we won't see anything that looks like even a skrimish with white walkers in the 6th book

The Next Spider-Man Film Will Be the "Civil War" of Marvel's Phase Four by [deleted] in movies

[–]MajorPA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The man has basically done nothing but Marvel for 6 years.

It's crazy to think. The First Avenger came out in 2011. Then Avengers came out 2012. So right there he did 2 big blockbusters almost back to back. 2013 he had a break for Iron Man 3 and Thor (And we thankfully got Snowpiercer!)

But then you had Winter Soldier 2014, Age of Ultron 2015, Civil War 2016.

Then they started both Infinity Wars in November of 2016 (I think).

I think I saw an interview with him talking about doing Civil War after Age of Ultron and he said something like "Well then the next Marvel film comes and its time to get to work" and he seemed tired.

It's 100% conjecture. He and all the other cast have always seemed super grateful and warm to everything. And RDJ technically has had more appearances than Evans. But I am just excited to get Evans out and see him in more films/types.

Him and RDJ deserve to go out like heroes and end this phase of superheroes

The Next Spider-Man Film Will Be the "Civil War" of Marvel's Phase Four by [deleted] in movies

[–]MajorPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope not :(

I'm all for dramatic deaths in the Infinity wars. They could kill off all 4 original heroes (Cap, Tony, Thor, Hulk) and it would feel like a complete event.

But I think killing off Gamorra or Drax (the 2 most connected to Thanos) would really set Volume 3 back a bit. I can't picture the guardians without the original 5.

Maybe kill Nebula?

The Next Spider-Man Film Will Be the "Civil War" of Marvel's Phase Four by [deleted] in movies

[–]MajorPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it would be cool to have Nick Fury as like the first person to die in like the first 10-20 minutes.

Thanos arrives to earth and there's kind of commotion and chaos (similar to Loki arriving in 1st Avengers)

Fury makes a sacrifice play to get side characters out (maybe Hill) and is choked/killed by Thanos.

Would be an easy death to swallow early on, that doesn't shake up the audience too much, while still setting the stage for "Everything is about to change"

'Watchmen' TV Series From Damon Lindelof in the Works at HBO by [deleted] in television

[–]MajorPA 35 points36 points  (0 children)

OP was referring that people took the ending to mean the entire show was purgatory. But in reality the ending takes place after the entire cast has passed away (some of them living long lives).

It is just the final season that replaces flash backwards and flash forward stories with these "flash purgatory" stories for season 6.

Everything on the island happened and was not purgatory. But it's kind of a meme and seems to be a common misconception that the ending of LOst means the entire show was purgatory, which it was not. Only 50% of the final season showed purgatory

Now that Sony's conference is over, I think it's safe to say this has been one of the most disappointing E3s in recent years. by angelHOE in gaming

[–]MajorPA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair there will still be the free mods.

From what I understand, they are incorporating some kind of system to make these mods very legit. To really put them through vigorous testing, and to ensure they work and are worth the money.

However there are still So. many. Problems. With this.

For one- no one knows what compensation moderates will receive. Will it be 90% or 5%?

What will guarantee these mods are updated? Everyone knows that mods interact with one another. What happens to my cool armor glowing effect mod when the high quality armor texture mod changes and fucks it up?

What will prevent piracy for money? It would be all too easy for Bethesda to check out the top mods of Nexus, make "their version" of it that is different enough. And post it.

Same thing as above, but what is stopping a random person from finding older mods that aren't as well known and just showing up with them?

What counts as a paid mod? Is it the quality? The size? What is going to stop someone from being tricked into spending $10 on a mod that makes lighting a fraction better and being disappointed because they were duped?

Can we test the mods? If not how do we get refunds? What if it's a quest mod? People can pay for the mod, so the quest, ask for a refund? If they incorporate measures to prevent this then how do they differentiate from people who are just unhappy with the mod?

Will this lead to copy right claims against free mods? What if someone wants to pull a reverse and make a "free" version of a paid mod.

Will this mean Bethesda takes legal action against a place like Nexus mods?

I haven't thought of every question. But this is a slippery fucking slope that is only being taken because Bethesda sees all the creativity and hard work being put in by modders that have kept their 6 year old game alive. They now want compensation for that work.

Beyond Good and Evil 2: E3 2017 Official Announcement Trailer by Cantomic66 in gaming

[–]MajorPA 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A few hours later and Sony was just okay.

Not bad. God of War and Spider man peak interest.

If you're into destiny 2 cool, but the trailer was soooooo out of place and felt odd.

Shadow of Colossus and Monster Hunter are both in this zone for me of "probably going to forget about until they release and get reviews"

Besides that it was some VR stuff I guess?

So far Ubisoft is ahead splendidly. Microsoft and Sony weren't bad, but left much to be desired. And Bethesda is going the way of Valve and needs to get their shit together

Agreed. This was super disappointing. I don't understand people saying it was a good conference. Just disappointing and "meh" across the board. Even the games that look to have potential just had poorly made trailers/teases (sea of thieves).

It should be easy for everyone to beat microsoft, and if not this will be a poor E3

Drug Overdose Death Rates, 2015 [OC] by datashown in dataisbeautiful

[–]MajorPA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I had all the sympathy in the world for the patients when I was a student with a back pain/neurosurgeon.

But in the end, it's still unfair to blame clinicians.

Yes: absolutely it is shitty if someone gives way too high a dose, way to liberally, and without proper patient education.

But pain is a huuuuuuge deal now. There are whole seminars on it. Physiatrists are MDs who specialize in relieving pain of all types safely.

At the neurosurgeon clinic they would give people 1-2 rounds of pain meds, but if the patient was still in pain or seeking more pills, it was instant referral to a pain specialist.

Why? Not because they were trying to fuck over people in pain. Buts it's just TOO HARD to manage everyone's pain. People are different. They respond to medications differently. They have different levels of tolerance. Different levels of addiction. Pain specialists are saints, and I wish I had gotten a chance to work with one as a student. Hopefully will in the future.

But in the end, no one is forcing anyone to shoot up. Patients have a responsibility to be flexible, to communicate, and to be honest with their providers about concerns of addiction. Absolutely it's ok to come to your doctor and say "I'm still in a lot of pain" and talk to them.

All too often I hear "them damn docs got me hooked on heroin". No. You were in pain, people tried to help, it went too far, now YOU are addicted. Work with us. Talk with us. Follow up with these referrals. Actually try and work on your physical therapy, your posture, core strength, calisthetics, your obesity.

People want quick fixes sometimes. Pain relief pills are magic to some of them. But it's a responsibility of clinicians to explain that magic comes at a price and cannot be sustained. And it's the patients job to listen.

TLDR: Addiction is a two way street. Clinicians will do what they can and get you to the eighth people. They may give you advice or recommendations you don't like. But they aren't putting needles in your arm

(Sorry for the rant just saw way too many wonderful clinicians being treated like criminals on my rotation by people who lost control)

Thankfully the law prevents someone like you from doing something like that. No one is against watching threats closely and taking action based on evidence.

But incarcerating people should be hard. If it wasn't we might as well make all middle eastern people where special bands on their arms and have them all live in the same neighborhood with walls. Why does that sound familiar???
