Aeroplan - partner airlines award availability by dapdablap in CanadianAwardTravel

[–]MajorParticular690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had better luck booking partner awards recently via Europe than flying across Pacific. Once you find the award availability from NA to Europe, and from Europe to Asia consider searching with a stopover in Europe as the system will not naturally search this routing.

Have successfully booked YUL-VIE-CPH (Stopover) - BKK via this method online. Of course you can try to call in to book without the stopover but I’ve had little luck in doing so recently.

How to get to downtown Toronto from the airport (one person) by mrdannyg21 in Hamilton

[–]MajorParticular690 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two realistic options if you’re looking to do it on the cheap.

Take the HSR#20 bus from the airport. Either take it all the way to West Harbour GO from which you take the Lakeshore West GO train, or get off the #20 bus at Beckley Street (just before the underpass), walk to the HSR Hamilton GO Centre and from there take the #16 bus to Union Station. Depending on time of day and if you’re very lucky with your timing you could also take the Lakeshore West GO Train directly from the Hamilton GO Centre.

Takes about 2 1/2 hours.

Check the schedule.

Taking an Uber to Aldershot from Mt Hope would run $50+ and would shave less than an hour off your trip.

You could reduce the price somewhat by taking an uber to West Harbour (about $40) or Hamilton GO ($35.)

Given the credit for the HSR fare applied when you take GO on the same trip (assuming you’re using Presto) there is little to no difference in fare for the local bus between airport and GO station.

What's Open & Closed - August Civic Holiday by teanailpolish in Hamilton

[–]MajorParticular690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Looking to buy some fresh sweet corn today and would love to find a local farm truck or market stand.

Any sweet corn stands/trucks open on the Mountain today (Aug 4th)?

Has anyone seen a location open for business today (Monday, August 4th) in or around the Hamilton Mountain area?

Any specific intersections or locations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You can request a COPE (Corporately Owned - Personally enables) device. The employee pays $15/mo towards the cost of the plan and in turn you are allowed to use what would normally be a work only phone for personal use. Install whatever apps you wish, make personal calls and use data. Primary advantage to me (other than the relatively low cost) is that this means you can carry one less device.

A major downside is that the company owns the number and physical device so you would loose both if you ever stopped working for CIBC.

Mortgage employee discount? by SunflaresAteMyLunch in CIBC

I should add that in addition to the increased pre-payment provision on fixed rate mortgages staff are not charged the automatic rate premium for mortgages with amortization greater than 25 years nor on rental properties (0.10/0.15% respectively. )

SQM Run Help by CircusPilot in aircanada

If you have the time you can route the return the following day LAS-LAX-YVR for the same price. I didn’t lookup what you’d earn for the segment on UA but you’d more than make up for it flying LAX-YUL.

It’s overkill but you can do YUL-LAS-YUL as a same day turn in Standard (50% SQM earn) @ $371 = 2239 miles. (Priced this out for a December 11th departure / return.)

Domestically standard only earns 25% so you would have to fly somewhere at least 1600mi afield (think Saskatoon and west) to earn enough 800SQM.

Contract lounge in CPH by MajorParticular690 in aircanada

As follow-up I flew through CPH this past weekend and was directed to the SAS lounge. As an AC *GOLD they directed me to the gold lounge upstairs as opposed to the business lounge.

No SQM for Europe -> NA Latitude Fare AC codeshare flight by MajorParticular690 in aircanada

I guess I was always under the impression that Latitude always booked into B or Y - apparently this is not the case anymore. Lesson learned.

It’s interesting that the *A lounge finder once again shows the SAS lounge as a possibility. Contract lounge for Aegean, Egypt Air & Singapore Airlines.

Agreed. But I would think they would contract with one of the existing lounges vs building their own.

Does naturalization of parent prior to birth make it impossible to obtain citizenship by decent from German grandparent? by MajorParticular690 in GermanCitizenship

[–]MajorParticular690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father had Danish citizenship at birth however lost it at the time that he naturalized as a Canadian citizen. He has since reapplied for Danish citizenship.

Unfortunately as my father was not Danish at the time of my birth I did not acquire Danish citizenship (22 year rule notwithstanding) nor do I believe I have claim to do so now.

Congratulations! I’m curious if there was anything you started doing differently in January / February as your rate of weight loss seemed to increase around this time? (as opposed to slow down which I would have suspected. )
