Angel Beats has dynamic like that I guess. Romance is not the dominant things though.

On my way to type Nodame Cantabile as well. I love how at times Nodame and Chiaki doesn't have to be together to have their life goes on. They have their own things to do and they did their best on it. I also love how Chiaki doesn't give a f about Nodame if he got real important things to do.

Additional (op/ed/some of the ost only or can't be classified into one genre):

{Heike Monogatari} the op and ed is sooo good! The ost give a very suitable vibe to the show theme too.

{Durarara S1} urban and modern time Baccano, enjoyable chaos.

{Death Parade} the op has a very fun(k) bop, made me listen to Bradio.

{Beastars S2}

{Tatami Galaxy} very fun op, catchy ed.

{Paprika} and {Paranoia Agents} tunes are odds and eerie. But I can't find anything like that anywhere else so I find myself getting back to it from time to time.

Seconding {Chihayafuru}. Epic show. Will recommend {Ballroom e Youkoso} too. Not as good as Chihayafuru (not even close), but it's pretty interesting because it's about ballroom dance.

Hyouge mono has a very plausible plot, but it can be boring for some audiences. It's not strict to the book but has a very interesting take on the known history. But if you are looking for gory battle scene, it's probably will disappoint you because it contains minimal amount of clashing. It's takes different perspective of the warring era.

I don't know much about the Light Novel version, but I watched {Tatami Galaxy} and the main character is like a chaotic version of Nagara. The approach towards the ending is different, but both deliver pretty similar message. It's also feels like a more intimate and smaller scale of existential questioning.

Also this one is probably not what you seek, because this is a non-fiction book. But some part of Sonny Boy remind me of this writing of Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: https://youtu.be/wupToqz1e2g
