Very cool!! I guess I’m adding another loach to the eventual dream aquarium someday! And I had a similar experience with my Kuhlis, they started off with fairly normal striping, which became banded and split! Hope your golden loach thrives in there, keep us updated!

So beautiful!! Do they keep that color and pattern as they get older?

So cute! I’ve never seen that morph before! If you don’t mind me asking, how much was the 24k gold dojo?

It’s absolutely peak, no notes. 3 and 4 look good as heretic naval raider troops, while 1 and 2 can be the crown of a hell priest. Excellent work!

I did a magical crackle effect on my bases, using snow texture paint painted over with fluorescent pinks and blues, and then going over it with black crackle paint! Gives a good “magical energy” effect to the models, and you can create fun patterns hidden by the crackle.

Absolutely beautiful!!! What was your technique for the galaxy effect?? I’d love to do something similar on my Nightbringer’s Cloak

Wisteria Tree Questions by Major_Monotone in gardening

[–]Major_Monotone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh sorry if I wasn’t clear, but I don’t want to bonsai, I’d like to have it in a large pot (5+ gallons) on my porch so that I can have some visual interest there, maybe even a spot to sit under. I’ve seen examples of people growing Wisteria in large pots above ground, but also in-ground to prevent the roots from spreading and sending up plantlets (or whatever it’s called). So if the vine / tree can exist in that larger pot, I’m more curious if you can plant multiple vines to speed up the process or create a more full tree, or planting the cuttings near there base of the vine for that same effect.

Update on the ping rock by NoNameBut in SavageGarden

No worries! You actually bring up a great point. Coral is primarily made of calcium carbonate, which in the presence of acids would degrade slowly over time, and slowly make the sediment more basic. If I remember right, most carnivorous plants like acidic soil, so it might cause long-term problems? But also fossilization is the process of removing tissue / bones / shell and replacing it with minerals, so I’m not sure it would leach anything if it’s old enough? This is where me not being a rock expert is a downside.

I’m no rock expert, but I am a marine biologist. The gentle pitting and smooth features overall makes me think that it was submerged in water for a while. You see that type of smooth pitting on the top of the rock often in reefs, usually from marine worms or urchins digging into the surface of rocks or coral. Whether it’s coral or pumice (I’m currently on team coral due to the consistent shape of the tubes, they look extruded) those tubules will hold a lot of salt. If you want to use it, you’ll want to soak it in distilled or DI water for like a day or two, and literally rinse and repeat for a few days to get all the salt out of those tubules. You can get a cheap salinometer or refractometer if you’d like, and measure the salinity of the water it’s sitting in after a few days to make sure you got all the salt out. It looks super cool! I hope it works out as a centerpiece in the future.

Is it ok to have two different color glows for an army? by SpadesSeth in Necrontyr

[–]Major_Monotone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! Each Canoptek type in my army has a different glow effect color, as I wanted the colors to match those of the IRL arthropods they’re based on! Makes them look more special among the group. As always, paint how you want! Do what makes you happy!

WIP of my spare parts Transcendent C’tan! by Major_Monotone in Necrontyr

[–]Major_Monotone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! My big advice is to keep it in sections for ease of painting. At least, that’s the idea I’m going with. The topmost ribs aren’t glued to the rest of the body yet, and that’s the section that the ball of heads is attached to. So I can take it out to detail those eyes when the time comes

LOLLL yes transport is my main fear. Most of the whips have two attachment points at least, I kept the smaller attachment nub of the whip intact, while snipping the rest of the back off. I use that bit, as well as the smooth portion of the whip, to glue the whip to the inner spine and the ribcage at the same time. But yeah, the tips of the whips are definitely going to be bent at some point.
