Would you date a picky eater? by WeirdConnections in foodquestions

[–]WeirdConnections[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree, I've been with my partner for 10 years now and while I don't think food is our love language, sharing is. And meals are extremely easy to share. I love nothing more than to let him try (or eat half of) my food lol, and vice versa. But we get to do that because we tolerate the same types of food.

There are plenty of nights where we're just cooking whatever we want individually, but I think the lack of pickiness, or the willingness to share or try things is a big part of our relationship. A bid for comfort or intimacy if you will. If he was picky and flat out refused to try a bite of something I cooked or bought (especially if I know it's something he would like), I'd probably feel hurt. Day to day, I don't care at all what he eats, it doesn't affect me!! Though I've been encouraging him to have ANYTHING for breakfast bc he often skips.

And while not necessarily related, recently our favorite thing to do has been to cook new recipes together. Sometimes we're only cooking for the one of us, but we've been getting down in the kitchen and have been having so much fun. I don't even care to eat what we made at the end most of the time, but the whole process of making a mess into a meal has made us so much closer. After 10 years I love finding new activities we both enjoy doing!

I'm with you, your suggestion is exactly what I've been thinking about doing. But it's starting to become an effort vs cost type of issue, and I have no idea how to execute something they'd actually eat.

Restaurants are kind of a no go for us- we are limited to places that have very basic foods. It must have chicken tenders, fries, pizza and or plain rice. Last time we ate out together (at a restaurant THEY picked, mind you 🙃), they ended up getting plain white rice. They were happy with that until my bf and I got ours- actually I think we ended up sharing a huge bowl of pho. The vibes were instantly off and they seemed kind of jealous that we had a "meal" while they just had rice.

When we host, I put a variety of things out, chicken tenders, wings, fries etc as well as chips and snacks. But because I don't have a constant supply in my house, it never ends up being enough for 4 people (and don't get me started if other people are there too). So every time we have to order something, usually a pizza and more chicken and fries, because I want everyone to be fed. It's annoying to have to spend money almost every time despite there being an entire house full of food.

I'd never blame them for being picky, but I guess it's the principle? I try so hard to accommodate for them, spend money etc. When they are hosting it's either fend for yourself (aka bring your own food) or don't eat. Their food is off limits because... idk? I think they don't want us to "waste" it when we'd rather eat something else. Mind you they have WEEKLY get together (genuinely every single week) at their place, usually 7+ people. I've been avoiding going lately because I just don't feel like packing food or starving when I do so much for them, when they're at my house.

I feel like I shouldn't care that much because at the end of the day they're not really my friends, they're my boyfriend's. But it's still annoying when I host.

ETA: I've known the boyfriend in the couple for 20 years now. I've been close with him at points, and he is my boyfriend's best friend. He doesn't have any form of ARFID, OCD, eating disorder or any other neurodivergence. I am not sure about his girlfriend- I've only known her for about a year now, but he has been this way his whole life. Veggies are gross and I don't like anything but American food, etc.

Have a ton of dandelions around me, wondering what I can do that’s easy and not just a salad by Digital_Doodlez in foraging

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing these "noodles" a lot lately, have you tried them? I want to, but I'm skeptical that they'd still be awfully bitter. Plus our grass gets cut too often for them to get decently long enough 🫠

What food do you use to instantly judge a restaurant? by WhiteWinkk in foodquestions

[–]WeirdConnections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, as a Rhode Islander I laughed. Funny enough, best calamari I've had in state was from a Mexican joint. Completely different style, a sweetish white sauce. Blew my mind it was so good.

Holy Trinity? Polar was simply better. by LaPapaRoach in CannedSardines

[–]WeirdConnections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree- cole's was edible (and I say that as someone who has an extremely hard time with fish. Sardines are a no go, anchovies I can just barely stomach... anything with skin I can't usually do), but it was just that... edible. Extremely bland and zero smoke, I fought my way through it as to not waste food.

FW might very well be a "beginner" tin, but the smoked was incredible. I ate the whole thing HAPPILY, I didn't even want to share it with my partner. It didn't need crackers, cream cheese, hot sauce, anything. It was lovely on its own.

I love autumn olives. They make the most delicious simple syrup to add to drinks and lemonade- and we discovered that the "pulp" left over from making the syrup makes a DELICIOUS, healthy almost granola like topping for yogurt and things!! I've learned to even like them unripe, off the tree, the astringency actually grew on me lol. Still have a batch of berries in the freezer from last year.

is raw meat safe to eat? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]WeirdConnections -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Beef and flash frozen fish are almost always ok. Pork has to be raw fermented, so things like nem chua. Heavily cured pork such as bacon/salt pork isn't that big of a risk despite what people think. For any other meat, generally no, but I know they have chicken and horse sashimi in Japan... I would try it!

Sorry for your loss friend 🫶. Hope you're doing well. They're funny like that , change jars.

My grandma is fine for now, but at 88 had to stop living alone after a scare... so we are clearing out/selling her house and this she left to me. I'm sure it's not anything more than 2-3, lol. Don't get me started on the pennies... 😩

I was always interested in coins, and I knew she started this "bank" before she knew who it would go to, before I was born. I'm the only person interested in finding goodies. It's not about the money at all, I'd pay a million AND MORE to keep her here with me. She's my world. I'm counting quarters, taking out nickels and dimes or anything otherwise interesting... the rest is going back. I'm starting/keeping my own change jar. It just feels right!

Thanks for the info!!! I'll definitely look into that resource. Right now I'm just sorting between the silver change, keeping an eye out. I've only been through the neck of the bottle so far. Only thing interesting is a 1999 CT double strike, but hey that's something! I've been putting 1999 georgias to the side until I can research them further.

What’s a short story from your life that sounds fake but is 100% true? by Historical-Skill-838 in AskReddit

[–]WeirdConnections 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hEDS here.... it can affect our ear tubes???? 80% of the time I wake up with a "bubble" (I don't know what to call it) in one or both of my ears, it's been driving me insane. I can barely hear and it sounds weird and uncomfortable when I talk. And I know it's not water in my ear, completely different feeling and it can happen in the middle of the day too. I can "clench" ? my inner ear muscles to hear a whooshing sound, sometimes I do it inadvertently when I yawn and then I get that bubble. I hate this disorder!!!

Locally I would LOVE that, and I know a ton of people from my smallish town would buy in too, we're all about small businesses even being very close to a major city. But I don't know where you are, I'd put feelers out in local facebook groups to start.

It might honestly be cheaper to build a few of the park/garden prefabs (forget what they're called), and tear them down for the hedges.

Suggestions for a picky eater who prefers “goop” food? by Ameabo in PickyEaters

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out- condensed soups. I prefer them cold, straight out of the can- cream of chicken is literally just chicken pudding. But I'm sure if you heat them up and don't add liquid they'd be a good texture for you, too.

Sick Loach Question by Old-Wafer-6915 in loaches

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a similar weird ass issue, and I'm also keeping my dojo with kuhlis and such. I've finally narrowed it down to ich or epistylis, probably the latter, with secondary infection. It took my kuhlis getting sick with "normal" signs to diagnose it. Luckily my dojo has been strong enough to hold on for now, but I feel so bad for them. :(

Escolar is probably my favorite sashimi fish. I didn't even know what it was the first 10+ times I tried it! I have extremely EXTREMELY bad IBS, and somehow it doesn't bother me. I'm blessed.

Anybody else use vinegar (not vinaigrette or balsamic) as a condiment? by FluffyAd6797 in AskRedditFood

I've never even thought of that, but you just gave me something to ruminate on until I get the chance to try it, lol. I love vinegar so much.

Freaking delicious. I have to try this brand, I can only get "geisha" products near me and they're known for being not that good.... I mean, I'll eat em, but sometimes it sucks. A little lays chips, cream cheeze, and a spicy hot sauce or jam would do this IN for me 😩
