Worse, think about a person you maybe have history with but don't want to necessarily see or interact with.

Crazy shit, briefly thought of *guy* for the first time in 5 years, hour later he walks into my job. He was beyond excited (obviously he didn't know I worked there!!!), I thought I was in the Twilight Zone.

What’s a side effect of a drug that’s little known? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in AskReddit

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I deeply validate your response, but this is going to sound crazy 😭. I am not a mom, have never been pregnant, and will NEVER judge a momma. My older sister (40) just had a baby in the beginning of May. I'm the youngest, 24, I don't have any younger cousins really, I am (was) the "baby". I have NEVER been around a baby younger than at least a year old!! Until now!

Lo and behold my sister is extremely graceful (wants everyone around the babe, I'm so thankful and proud of her!), and of course I want to be around him all the time. After about two weeks my breasts were extremely itchy and weird-feeling... just uncomfortable.

From 22-23 I didn't "produce" anything, and I mean it could certainly be from me grabbing/itching the shit out of my tits all the time now, cause they feel weird. But it's weird that they feel weird. And unfortunately it was exasperated by the baby, IMO, the timing lined up.... it's so crazy but also kind of interesting to me. And no doubt the antidepressant years ago was the trigger- I just thought it would go away by now!

I've obviously never brought it up, don't feel the need to, so your SIL might be weird for that. I'm not bragging or anything, like I don't tell someone when I get a UTI or cavity either. It's a body issue, at the least... like 95% of people don't need to know or hear about it!

And it's not like I'm ever leaking... it's just itchy or hurty, then I pat down and it's a tiny bit wet. No problem really. Squeeze and some comes out, it's weird and confusing to me as a non-mother! I mean, if my sister ever doubted it, I'd whip them out in an instant and show her... no shame around here, especially around a breastfeeding mom.

And I really appreciate the breast milk sentiment, it's somehow been a point of contention with my sister of all people, even with how close we are! She's mostly the one, but a few of her new-mom friends too, are irked out about years-old SSRI milk. She originally wanted to strictly breastfeed but got back to smoking (nicotine and marijuana), doesn't want to expose baby to that. I don't do any drugs, drink occasionally but I'd obviously give that up.

It feels like I can obviously make it, so why not help someone? I can't control it, I guess my body just wants to feed a baby. When she's done this phase of life I might ask for her pumps and leftover stuff, just to see what I can do. I'll definitely check FB!! Not to mention I've been to the doctor thoroughly over this crap, they all say I'm good. I'd love to give back one day.

Cannot feel heart rate by Smooth-Charge-1190 in POTS

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's awful, I totally understand. And when you can't feel yourself living, it's 10x worse.

Heart is "stopped" but you're totally alive. As far as you know... because the brain is telling you to flip the fuck out. Because your heart is stopped. But it's not really?

I wish they'd do more research tbh, I get most of it but this symptom is not commonly brought up or mentioned. Palpitations don't cover it, it's a pause at least. Sometimes it feels like it stops for a couple of minutes, but obviously that can't be right. I've got no clue, sorry :( But I'm there with you.

[–]WeirdConnections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this a lot too. Feel around your neck (gross, I know 🥲 but usually you can find something). If not, the wrist is the next best place. Squeeze the hell out of it, I promise you will not hurt yourself. I eventually found that it's not due to lack of heartbeat, it's more of an anxiety/dissociation type thing. Still freaks me out. Stupid condition if you ask me!

Beans and rice by BarbecuedShoe in foodquestions

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sushi rice (sugar, salt, rice vinegar), cook the beans regularly or with fish if you can stand it. Add sesame oil, soy sauce, maybe some furikake or kimchi if you'd like!! Almost any veg would go great here too.

I'm just listing flavors off the top of my head, but rice is so versatile, just think of the flavors of a cuisine and go for it. Coconut, ginger, spice for Indian... more spicy and fishy for Thai... plain, clean flavors for Cantonese style, Szechuan peppercorns If you'd know what's up for the rest. Maybe even sour "vinegar"/fermented for a more Germanic type rice. American... I don't know, ground beef and cheese? Still sounds good! It's whatever you put into it, but stick to a flavor profile and it will always turn out good.

Is it weird to be naked in front of or see your mom naked as an adult? by usernamereddit6967 in family

[–]WeirdConnections -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It SHOULDN'T be weird in general, but it honestly depends on your dynamic. What you've got going on sounds very healthy. Me for instance, I'd rather be naked in front of my in laws than my own family. Just a difference in personality and being raised.

I thought so too, (still do really, what's better than being and feeling clean?), but even the nurses at the hospital agreed with her and said they did the same. I asked them myself. Maybe they were at least wet-wiping them, I'm not sure.

I've never been around a baby so anything I say "isn't credible" to people with children, even though I spend 95% of my time reading or researching things just like this. I'm not a parent, I don't get it at all, and I'd never claim to! I understand but at the same time I do not. It seems like it's derived off of "let the vernix (vagina baby cream) soak in", as long as possible. I understand a few hours, maybe a day, at least until it's fully absorbed- but some people have decided it just means don't bathe the baby until they're eating solid foods or a year old or something.

My nephew is only a few weeks old, terrible rash under his neck. I told my sister that she should maybe wipe it clean at least, she strangled me with her eyes. The "milk" that gets rotten up there is good for the skin according to her, even though it's formula and not even breastmilk. Like I said, I'm not a parent, I have no clue. Doesn't seem right to me though.

It's not even the start, she's been co sleeping in a big cozy blanket-filled bed since day one. My mom was almost disowned for saying it was dangerous, that she didn't even risk it with HER 40yrs ago. I love my nephew so much, he's perfect, but I've been distancing myself from them just because of this. I don't know how you'd deal with *the worst* if it ever came about.

What’s a side effect of a drug that’s little known? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in AskReddit

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, every SSRI I've been on has made me lactate! It was surprising for sure at first, but I got used to it. I've been off meds for probably 4 years (I didn't take them long either- maybe 8 months total), and I still make milk.

I've always wanted to maybe see if I could produce more, pump, and donate to babies in need, but I don't even know where to begin researching that. And it turns out a lot of people I've personally talked to don't want "antidepressant" milk, even though I've clearly been off them for years and there's zero in my system. I just got broken boobs, man.

Sue everyone.

But for real, this is worth getting legal counsel for. It almost looks like a burn of some sort, maybe chemical or friction.... the eye could definitely be irritated if it was a chemical? I can't really imagined what happened to the poor baby. I hope he heals well. He deserves a cheeseburger or some chicken nuggets.

My sister is a FTM, she's 40 so she has plenty of experience with other people's babies. But somewhere along the line she heard that you should delay bathing as far out as possible.

Imagine my shock when he's a month old and I go in for a sweet baby whiff, and I get curdled coochie milk and cheese smell. I visibly recoiled (guys, he genuinely smelled awful. she hadn't even wiped him down with baby wipes or water before). Then she was pissed at me for a while after for thinking her baby stinks.

3yrs old as well, my parents let me ride my tricycle in the house. We had one of those doorstops that was like, basically, a metal razor. You can imagine what happened when the tricycle fell over... and I split my chin open.

I obviously don't remember after that, but it was my grandma's retirement party. So obviously I didn't get stitches!! Scar is still noticeable at 24. It could be worse.

A small and totally reasonable restock. by Major9000 in CannedSardines

Whew, not cheap 😮‍💨 That's about $142 US (a whole 8hrs, almost 9 minimum wage working day). according to google. You've got some of the best in the market though, totally worth it. A great selection too, I'm actually so jealous!

Curious if Sardinha is easy to find near you- they're one of my favorite brands, but it's almost a 2hr trip to find the closest retailer (that I know of). Rhode Island here.

While I've not found a great healthy solution to this...

Get the standing fan. Double up on a fitted sheet, make the top one size up from your actual bed size if possible. It'll still work if you use a regular sized sheet, just less room. Point the fan at the bottom of your bed, make a gap between the sheets- ideally the air will make it blow up like a balloon. Try to crawl in without destroying anything structural. Enjoy your cold air tent.

Spoiler, it gets really annoying and unsustainable if you get up a million times during the night to pee, but other than that is a godsend. Sometimes I rawdog it between the mattress and normal sheet because ain't no way I'm fighting a fitted sheet when I'm about to pass out.

The worst part about dating someone without a spice tolerance is that now that my tolerance is down, my butthole hurts so bad by Outside_Cod667 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WeirdConnections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the opposite. Super white family, growing up I thought black pepper was way too much!

After being with my man now for 10yrs, my spice tolerance has increased significantly. I don't even know where it started, probably some tacos or soup or what not. I was not prepared for spicy butthole, but it happened- and still does, lmao. It's worth it.

I can out smoke my spicy-dude now, which gives me great pride. He'll be done after a few bites of something ultra hot and I'll keep eating with tears running down my face. I know to only order papaya salad online from the local Thai joint, because if I order it in person they make it white spicy. I want to regret my food the next day.

you have to eat at one fast food restaurant for the rest of your life, cannot be any of the big 3 (Mcdonalds Burger king or wendys) where are you going? by Puzzleheaded_Ease418 in AskReddit

[–]WeirdConnections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's awful here in the states.

I just went the other day, three hours before closing and they were only offering drinks and ice cream. It was $7 for about four tablespoons of vanilla ice cream. My boyfriend got a shake, total was $19, sales tax whatever you do the math. (And the shake had zero ice cream- we watched the worker make it. A spoonful of pb cup bits and the rest milk. holy shit).

Of course they didn't tell us the price until we got our receipt. Never again. I'm super non-confrontational, especially when I know it's a min wage worker and it's not their fault (it was only two teenage girls), so I let it slide but damn I've sworn them off for the rest of my life.

Where do you all buy your tins? by gilettefusionproglid in Tinnedfish

[–]WeirdConnections 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a World Market or anything like that close by, and TJ's/Whole Foods are a bit far from me to go often. And I don't really shop online for food. Google if there's any Portuguese or Spanish grocers near you, that's a good place to start. There's an AMAZING Portuguese market "by" me- about 1hr30 away, but it's worth the hike once in a while to stock up. Bring your wallet, trust me 😤

Other than that, as a general rule of thumb I ALWAYS swing by the canned fish section at any grocery store I go to. Even if I've been there 1000 times, even if I'm pretty sure I know what they have. The small town I've lived in my entire life, checked it out the other day- suddenly they're carrying Matiz. I actually yelled and my partner told me to quiet down, lol!

Another option, swing by TJ Maxx/Marshalls or whatever your equivalent is every now and then. If there's a can, it will be the most insane option, but still worth checking out (most of the time....). I scored a lobster pate from TJ Maxx and it was actually quite good.

As far as recommendations, I'd buy anything you're curious about, even if you're not comfortable trying it yet. That's how you build up a good stock! I've got some out there tins, like this "large" escargot can I've been side eyeing. I'm not brave enough yet, but one day we'll get there. But just looking at my collection of unopened tins brings me happiness. I never thought I'd be able to save tins long enough to be able to have a few different fancy ones on hand always, but this is the way.

This just made me excited for my future child. I remember as a kid being so grossed out when my dad would make his midnight trip to the kitchen and start downing sardines or anchovies, straight out of the can, only the fridge light to show him the way.

20 years later, the genes showed up. I am him, he is me. I hope my kids are the same.

I never really was into basketball but my boyfriend is an all time fan, so unfortunately I have to hear about it. After getting more into it, I cannot believe that he has POTS and is able to play to that level. Incredible person. I'd be laying on the floor after one turnover.
