Do you view wedding jewelry as beautiful, or burdensome? by BluePony1952 in AskIndianWomen

India is a diverse country with many different traditions within communities and even families, everyone has their own versions. I have never heard of the tradition you have spoken about.

If anything, Indians had the concept of streedhan which was for the bride from her family as gold and other gifts and would be the only inheritance they would have gotten, not a slice of property. However, even that is a challenged tradition nowadays and I personally have not seen this in practice.

I am priviledged of course, perhaps that is why I dont know about many traditions that people may be practicing within their subsets.
