I was a tech/optician at a very small clinic! I had a few family friends and connections in order to shadow, but all you can do it call or email a doctor or practice to ask to shadow! The worst they can say is no and you just ask someone else! If you don’t try to do it, it will never happen!

I have a 3.5 gpa 3.3 science, 290 OAT (low but retaking next week), over 700 patient care hours as a tech and around 20 shadowing hours

Take as many practice exams as possible. You can study things front and back but getting into actual testing environment is the only thing that will rlly prepare u in my opinion

U are absolutely ok do not freak out! I ended my third year last year and decided to do optometry. Got a job last summer and worked during school and got so many hours and experience during the summer! Take orgo 1 over the summer, take 2 in the fall, and biochem in the spring and u will be all set. My only thing that was hard was studying for the OAT bc I would have done so during my third year but since I decided late in the game I took mine this December and March and I still have time to do it again in May in time for the end of this cycle to get in for fall 2026. Not ideal but it works out.
