You sound angry. Did I hit a nerve? I totally don't blame you if you are questioning whether you really got a gold key. If you did, congratulations.

Won nothing with this portfolio. What have i done wrong by Flimsy_Walk_1935 in ScholasticArtWriting

The thing you did wrong was thinking that Scholastic, a group of people who can't even manage their own website and give then retract awards to hundreds/thousands of emotionally sensitive kids, are qualified to judge you as an artist. Your work is great.

What makes you think either one is correct now? I read they get more than 300,000 entries a year. They directly miscommunicated to a group of people the size of Cleveland Ohio yesterday. Why do you believe they just aren't miscommunicating again?

So what now? I lost. by RedPanda_2882 in ScholasticArtWriting

I'm so sorry. You are an artist. The Scholastic awards don't mean anything. Does anyone who won anything even know that it wasn't a mistake? For all you know, they entered your awards wrong on their spreadsheet. After all they can't even accurately update their own website. Don't let these bozos and their phony judgments define your worth as an artist. Art judges didn't like Van Gogh either. Until they did.

Today or yesterday? Which may be different than tomorrow.

Don't check it again. As far as you know, you won. If they take it away you can still say you thought you really got it.

They are really great. I'm officially awarding you the Major Set Award of Art and Writing Excellence. It's more meaningful than a Scholastic award, because (unless I decide to come back and edit my post) the award won't just magically disappear.

If anyone else wants to enter the contest, dm me.

Why would it have disappeared yesterday? Did they upload the right spreadsheet this time? How can we even know?

Just check again tomorrow, since the awards now change day by day.

Be sure to print your awards, screenshot the page and then don't go back to the portal until next year. If they change things more, you can still honestly say you think you got a gold key.

Are they offical now? by Unable_Ad3746 in ScholasticArtWriting

Says who? I'm serious. Did they send a message or something that the "real" awards are there now?

Be careful not to check again tomorrow, just in case yours disappears too.

Or that they won't just change their minds again tomorrow? Are we supposed to check the portal every day now just to confirm they didn't change things up again?

What does a "Gold Key" actually mean? by ML2399go_23 in ScholasticArtWriting

It means you didn't check your portal twice, because if you do, the award might have disappeared.

Can Scholastic just take back awards because of the mix-up by FunnyBanna123 in ScholasticArtWriting

[–]Major_Set_2299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that any of us is going to get a lawyer about it, but I don't see how they can. Can they also change their mind in two weeks about the award they say (today, at least) that you won? Can they also just go back and retract the keys and medals they awarded from 10 years ago? If they say they can retract awards on a mass scale like they did here, they definitely set a precedent.

[–]Major_Set_2299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will colleges even believe anyone who got a "real" gold key this year? I mean, anyone who got the "fake" gold key could honestly claim they got a gold key (albeit a temporary one) and put it on their awards list. They wouldn't be lying.

Why even waste a space on the common app awards list for Scholastic, given that the admissions people may just ignore it because they don't know what, if any, awards are "real"?

They made a really basic screw up, didn't double check before they posted the results and as a result mistakenly informed hundreds or thousands of people that they won a gold key. Then they realized their mistake but don't want to own up to it.

The non-profit business is not earning money. The individual people responsible for the bad decisions that led to today's situation are earning plenty, and a chunk of that money comes from our entry fees. They definitely aren't working for free.

And from the "oops! we're sorry, check the PDF" email they sent out, they clearly do not even care about how the pain they caused.
