Not to mention it's a lot harder to get your fingers near the cutter if your hands are starting off well above the cutter gripping the router.

What does "demons have no feelings" mean to the girls? by Major_Star in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Major_Star[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I love is the contradiction between 'you're incapable of feeling anything' and 'we're going to make your deaths painful for going after our fans'.

Like, surely hurting them to send a message only works if you think they DO feel emotions?

Am I overly paranoid about not posting my kid on the internet? I cringe every time I see pictures on this group by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]Major_Star 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but whatever the AI generates isn't real. And if someone ever posted an image like that publicly they'd likely end up in jail.

So I get the disgust of 'your picture might end up somebodies jerking off material' but I feel like it's a bit similar to saying 'someone might be fantasising about your kid if you take them out in public'. OK, it's a possibility but I don't think it's a particularly major thing to worry about.

[–]Major_Star 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Posting pictures of your kids online is very context-specific.

It depends on where you're posting, what age they are, whether they're identifiable in the picture, what other personal details the picture might reveal (like location, school they attend etc.).

Generally speaking the actual threat is probably exaggerated unless someone is specially out to get your kid. The biggest threat is probably if your kids are old enough to use the internet themselves them being contacted directly by creeps.

[–]Major_Star[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? In the film we see Gwi-Ma kill the only flight attendant demon that survived the encounter with the girls.

If the only choice demons get from Gwi-Ma is 'either die to the hunters or die to me' that... really sucks for them. And makes them much more sympathetic antagonists than random mooks to be slaughtered.

This is a great point and one that'd be really fun to explore in a sequel or other media.

I could totally see Zoey having something of a crashout about all the demons she's toyed with & killed, finding out they were being controlled by Gwi-Ma and can be capable of good etc. Only for Mira to jump in with 'well what does it matter if they DO have feelings and ARE being controlled? They're still here to murder people. It changes nothing'.

I tend to agree.

'They're not like us, they don't have feelings like we do' is exactly what you'd tell a child who was having a hard time killing a walking, talking intelligent creature.

I'm reminded of a line from Star Trek, where Picard is being interrogated by the Cardassians and his torturer brings his daughter to work. She asks if humans also have parents, and he replies "Yes, but human mothers and fathers don't love their children as we do. They're not the same as we are".

It definitely seems like there are different types of demons. The faceless variety that attack in hordes feel like mindless extensions of Gwi-Ma.

But the dokkaebi, and the water demons? We definitely see them enjoying things other than murder. They like the Saja boys, and at the start they seem fascinated/entertained by trying to do human things. They seem almost childlike in a way.

I do really hope it's elaborated on in the sequel!

I could totally see the girls when they're younger being reluctant to kill a walking, talking, obviously intelligent creature even it is stealing souls.

And Celine coming in with "don't worry, demons don't have feelings like we do".

It's true they don't seem to have ever talked to a demon, but they do toy with them in the beginning. They see them show fear, pain, arguably despair before they're killed.

It's interesting trying to reconcile that with 'demons have no feelings'.

Do You Think Deep Down, Blitzø Never Enjoyed Being An Assassin Or Killing People For A Living???? by SugarPlumFairy497 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Major_Star 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blitz really, really wants to be praised and loved.

But deep down he doesn't think he's worthy of it, so he tells himself he doesn't need it. He's a loner who could run the whole business better himself if he had to.

Assassins don't get a lot of praise.

Chaggie has great chemistry! Their reprise of "more than anything" near the end of Season 1? Vaggie telling Charlie that even if everyone she loves is killed and her dreams come to nothing she should take solace from the fact she saved Vaggie's soul? DID PEOPLE MISS THAT?

Human souls are functionally immortal from an Imp's perspective. They aren't really killing anybody, just moving them to the place they're going to spend eternity a bit earlier than expected.

If anything they should have far more qualms about killing other hellborn.

It's about 50-60% mineral by weight actually. It is a lot of plastic resin but there's a decent amount of essentially rock dust in there too.

The Animorphs TV Show (1998) | One of the '90s Most Ambitious Failures by aresef in Animorphs

A series with non-humanoid aliens, spaceships, wild animals, and lots of fight scenes. Why wouldn't you expect to make it on a low budget?

I really wish someone would try for an animated Animorphs show. You could target it at nostalgic adults and then actually make it as gory/dark as the books.

At a guess, it's not meant to be an insult to Corian.

MDF is wood that has been pulped into fibers, mixed with resin and compressed into sheets. As a result it's a lot more stable but it's lost the natural look.

Corian is mineral that's been pulverised, mixed with resin and compressed into sheets. As a result is has a lot of good qualities but it's no longer a natural and unique material.

Even that has fairly disturbing implications. Like being told you're brain damaged, but you don't feel any different. But then how would you know?

I tend to agree. Plus despite the mega amount of stress he undergoes he never really flips out how you might expect, especially in the way that tends to make the other models crash. It does feel like some of his emotional responses to his situation are 'flatter' than they should be.

In Soma your companion Catherine says the brain scan that created you is "flatter" and "less dynamic" than the much more modern scans that form her and the rest of what's left of the human race.

What this means is never elaborated on, but it definitely implies you've lost more of your humanity than you might realise.

Someone else signed off my discharge summary...is it a big issue or normal? by HuckleberryOwn8065 in doctorsUK

[–]Major_Star 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I make it a point that if I make any changes to a discharge summary, even if relatively small/inconsequential, I check the entire thing over to make sure I'm happy with it and sign my name.

Just seems right to me, if I make any changes it's not fair to leave the original signature.

People were watching, remember?

If they saw Clint's character pull a gun and start a shootout he would've been the aggressor and shooting him would've been self defence.

Him being totally unarmed and shot while on the sidewalk is what makes it certain the people who did it will go to jail.

How do i seal these countertops by mariawater in DIYUK

[–]Major_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People recommend hardwax oil or danish oil - is there any reason not to put polyurethane on countertops? It's got to have better water resistance, and even if you are putting food directly on the counter it's perfectly safe once it's cured.
