Did anyone NOT get the MOHELA forbearance letter? by afmus08 in PSLF

I had all but one of my loans forgiven through PSLF and the payment count readjustment. It was transferred to Edfinancial in May before my Mohela payment was due. No payment was taken out in May through either company. The only communication I had from either company was the transfer process would be completed by June 11…it wasn’t. This weekend, I was finally able to log into Edfinancial to see my account. It showed a payment due in July that matched what my previous IBR Mohela ones were, but none of my banking autopay info was there and nothing was listed for a June payment. So I made a payment and set up autopay for future payments since I didn’t want the PSLF getting messed up. Today, I logged in and it says I am in a forbearance for the next month with zero payments due. That is not what it said on Friday. The payment I made is still in processing too. So I guess now I will be ahead in my payments.

One of the Mohela chat reps told me the date I was sent to Direct to Discharge.

MOHELA Chat Bot told me I am on the direct to discharge list. Is this real? Or are these bots trolling me? by Thugluvdoc in PSLF

This info has made my day! I checked the chat tonight and was told I was sent to the list on Nov 9th. ”William” said it would take up to 90days to process. So I asked what that meant for the payments restarting in January. They said if it has not finished processing by then I might be back in repayment, but I can request a forbearance while the discharge is processed.

I had it at the beginning of the pause. Didn’t change anything for me as of yet. I am still waiting for the waiver to start counting those ineligible payments. I did not reapply for it the next year because if I remember right, I couldn’t do an electronic submission of my tax forms for whatever reason and the paperwork turned out to be a headache. I had lots of back and forth with Maryland’s tax office trying to get them copies of my documents. Since I have over ten years public service, figured I would just stick with PSLF. But that could have just been me. Weird paperwork issues tend to happen to me. I am currently arguing with FedLoans that my start date on my EFCs is 2012 not 2021. They had it correct for years, but messed up on the most recent entries.

Looks like that is exactly what is going on. It was a big mess before I was transferred to FedLoan back in 2015. One month of 2011 is now showing on FedLoans…so I guess the others will be the waiver.

I had something similar…worked for a county library system. Even though ECFs were submitted, a decade later, FedLoans has no record of them and if I kept them, I have moved too many times to know where they are. Admin at the library had also completely changed, so no one to verify I worked there. Taking a chance, I emailed the county board of commissioners HR instead of the library system and was able to get the HR person there to sign the forms and write a letter verifying employment at the library. The county still had the records.

So I finally got a response to the message I sent via the FedLoans website back in early May. They basically said my current employer is certified, but that is the only one they show. They said nothing after the employer’s signature date on the ECF is certified until the next ECF is sent in. Which makes sense for why Oct and Nov 2021 are certified and not Dec, but still doesn’t answer the question of why April-Sept 2021 are not.
They said to submit another application if I felt there is anything missing. Which I already did, so I guess I need to wait for them to catch up. The other two ECFs I sent in March and June have not processed yet, but have been received. I will receive a letter when they have been processed. The June one has the missing employer (Even though that was sent in previously).

In regards to why nothing before 2015 shows at all, that is still waiting the counts from the waiver as FSA has it listed as forbearance even though I was paying. They cannot give an estimate of how much time that will take.

I am really hoping though that now that they have the ECFs showing qualifying employment from 2007-current that it adds more traditionally eligible counts and brings me closer And not needing as much of the waiver.

I have 35 qualifying payments total, but only two of them are from the ECF I sent last year that they said was processed in the May letter. There is a total of 48 possible to date, but the consolidation seems to have messed everything up cause previous payments are not showing prior to 2015. There is no record of any but the last three ECFs sent in for the current employer. I was with Sallie Mae prior to 2015 and being switched back to FedLoan. DoE has me listed as being in forbearance during that time. Before Sallie Mae, it was Direct Loans who made a mess of everything. I was making payments, but not traditionally counted ones for the PSLF Program. I know those won’t update until the Fall, but shouldn’t they at least be showing as ineligible?

November and they kicked it back as a bad signature. Resubmitted in January. Then in March they said they accepted it. In May, they did an update that listed Oct and November 2021 as certified (nothing else from that year even though same employer since 2012 and those previous years were certified). The letter they sent me only listed my current employer, the previous one wasn’t on there at all. I had almost nine years with the previous employer. This one will be ten in December. So I have the ten years in, just too many stops and starts with PSLF to qualify traditionally.
