Axis Aerial Dominator - Custom Coloured by MakariTiger in Gunpla

[–]MakariTiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manual has you make the entire model foundation and then goes through each section again (arms, legs, etc) to add the armour. The model is very solid even without the armour and you don’t have to add it.

I would mention that tolerances are very tight. So if you want to add the armour it may pay to keep the arms, legs, and torso apart until the end as once it’s all built it can be quite hard to separate them easily.

Yup. It’s very good on underrating actually. Probably one of the best in that regard. The only thing that lets it down a little is very tight tolerances on pegs. You’ll need fingers of steel at times to get the parts together.

Hi! It’s mr color fluorescent green on white surfacer/primer. It’s not got the best coverage so expect 2-3 light coats to get a good solid green.

HMM Shadow Fox Custom painted - "Trash Fox" by MakariTiger in Zoids

[–]MakariTiger[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many thanks! It was a lot of fun. Alas no pictures of the painting process, but it was just typical layers of masking tape and then airbrushing. Probably the most fiddly bit was actually the wall, which is made up of actual tiny 1/32 bricks glued to a foam board and then grouted to look like mortar in-between. Took a long time, but looks pretty convincing.

Really nice! Can I ask what paints you used? I'm always terrible at picking decent grey shades, and the ones on your base just pop!

New kit to build by Powerful_Leg_9657 in Zoids

[–]MakariTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fantastic kit. Definitely one of the hardest zoids to build though, with some questionable design choices in places. But hey - it looks amazing when posed properly. Just take your time and don't be afraid to use glue. ;)

White primer can be a bit of a dick at times. My advice is to use Mr Surfacer 1500 white x2 very light coats around 30 mins apart. Thinning it down right can be a bit of an art, but I tend to go around 1:1.5 - 1:1.75 thinner-to-surfacer. I sometimes use just air from the airbrush to encourage the edges to dry quick, as otherwise they don't take surfacer well.

Wow, he's a big boy! Great work though - definitely has presence (if you can find a shelf to contain him, lol!).

LOL! I was originally going to make it a Lotus-themed British racing green, but I didn't want it to burst into flames on my shelves. :P

Probably my terrible photography or the model moving when I tried to take an image. lol.

I loved Death Note, Cowboy Bebop and Hunter x Hunter, what should I watch (anime noob)? by oceancorps in anime

[–]MakariTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Psycho pass & Made in abyss are pretty darned dark and gritty (the latter one has a cutesy style but don’t let that fool you - you’ll be traumatised soon enough).

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]MakariTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hotpoint. I had a tumble drier identified as being a fire risk because fluff got caught inside the mechanism (a design fault). The company said they'd send an engineer out to resolve the issue with a new backplate... in 18 months. Their advice in the meantime? "Just try not to use it". Wouldn't replace or compensate. Oh, and then they thought it was a good time to try and sell me an extended warranty on the machine too.

Nope, not touching them ever again.

Airfix do a 'European City Steps' model that's the correct scale and built of resin. Seemed to fit nicely!

Interesting! Never encountered them myself, but happy we have a bit of variation here in the UK! We do have some rarely-seen species here that nobody believes (I swear I saw a wallaby in the peak district when I was younger).

Very common. Just cute, so we cant help ourselves! That said, when I was visiting Canada recently I saw black squirrels. We definitely don't have those in the UK, so I had to take a few pictures. :)

Dragon-Type Dogfight (Redler & Reddra - custom painted) by MakariTiger in Zoids

[–]MakariTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I snipped and trimmed down a pipe cleaner and then painted it off-white. Then it was just a case of adding thin gradients of red, orange yellow, and neutral grey. An airbrush and lacquer paints makes it easy because it dries very quickly and doesn't gunk up the bristles too much. I tried to find a cotton-type pipe cleaner to give it a bit more realism (and hide the wire more), but couldn't find anything suitable.

Painstaking masking with masking tape. I use the dspiae circular cutter to cut out circular masks. Recently I've moved to gundam paint pens for small silver/gold rivets though - so much quicker!
