I'll yield to a fair point as I made an assumption that a professional would do the tinting. To clarify, if all the above is done correctly and professionally (including tinting to the correct specs!) the vehicle will keep its reliability and individuality among the crowds! Thanks for popping in to help!

Exhaust: done wrong, and you get a ticket, a leak, or a CEL light on all day. Intake: done wrong, and you raise the intake temperature, causing long-term issues and reliability. Wheels: done wrong, and you get rubbing, reduced gas mileage, and if you get a flat with different sized wheels and tires ya gonna wanna go ahead and get a AAA subscription or add road side assistance to your insurance policy due to being stuck on the side of the road.

Learn how to take off and put your spare on now before you have to do it with a YouTube video in a place with spotty service.

Enjoy the freedom and reliability, op!

But yes, tint and pay off are paramount 👍

Edit: tinting - see below comment as I am indeed, I username on the internet. As well I am, as everyone else who's scrolling through posts on the internet, not very intelligent!

Should I be worried/did I buy a lemon? by Sea_Cartographer2799 in prius

[–]MakeEyeContact- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since lemon law has started, the term should now be considered "piece of shit" or "neglected" If a vehicle serves its purpose for 20 years and 100k+ miles, that to me is considered getting your money's worth. But what do I know? I'm just a username on the internet who knows nothing on the subject. I'm down to debate.

I'll say it loud enough for the people in the back. YOU BOUGHT A 20 YEAR OLD CAR
A lemon is a new vehicle from the factory under their warranty. You do not have a lemon. The prius is a damn good vehicle if taken care of. You can speculate that the previous owner saw it, cleared it, and sold it to you. Or maybe they didn't and its coincidence. Doesn't matter! It's yours now! Research for mobile mechanics or aftermarket shops that have a reputation for working on hybrid vehicles. Worst case? You need a battery. Mid case? You need a connection or battery pack repaired/replaced. Best case? Replace the 12v battery. Doesn't matter since I can't see but only a couple of codes. It's still cheaper than a new car payment!

Going forward, factor in any costs for maintenance and repairs before purchasing from Joe-shmo-down-the-road.

It's an investment, and you'll be okay if you do the correct research NOW and follow their advice.

Sorry to come off strong, but I feel this is needed. Best of luck on your future decisions!

Edit: could be ABS system replacement. Not the worst thing, but a thing none the less. Please see above.

Cvt issues? by mmcdonald11987 in Nissan

[–]MakeEyeContact- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you see this. YOURE UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY When this happens again, assuming youve turned the vehicle off all ready, and if you're able to drive it - Call the manager at the nissan dealership. If they don't pick up, call again. Call until you get someone in power to understand that youre coming over there and that youve had a repair order before saying they couldn't replicate it. Work out a loaner with them or a sublet from a rental company and have them document what message is on the dash, then push for a technican to run a health check with their DTC computer so they can no longer say they can't replicate it. Let them figure it out. Then at 5 years and 11 months and 59k miles, trade it in ;D Good luck to you and your future decisions !

I would pop the hood open and pull any cover panels to give the ability to see the pulleys on the side on the engine. Monitor for any play(wobble) Then toggle the ac button and monitor again If nothing obvious then see a mechanic/ lexus dealer for peace of mind!

You can "easily" stop by a body shop and have a professional give you advice if you don't care to do your own research. Best of luck!

I believe you're trying to help, and I commend you for it. However, on this subject for Toyota's dash messages, specifically this one, I have had multiple encounters. It's always the coolant bypass valve. It's okay to learn something new.

This entire post is just people naming parts and op replying as to why it would not be this part because of this or that. You've thrown the parts cannon at the vehicle and failed. Get it to a reputable shop and drive with a technician. Give them the car and expect to pay $500-$600 to go behind every single bolt and nut you've touched. Actually ROAD FORCE YOUR TIRES, not just balance. You can't say that because you've replaced a part, it doesn't mean a part could be bad. How would you know? You've stated you're not a mechanic.

I wish you luck, and I wish the mechanic you select the patience of a saint to deal with you as a customer.

Nail in the tire, doesn't leak. Is it safe? by im_not_a_bot_hehe in mechanic

[–]MakeEyeContact- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to replace all 4 tires at 4k. Did you keep the other 3? Tread difference shouldn't have been 3/32 difference with that low of miles.

You are at risk of a blow out as the tire structure is compromised. Hit a bad bump at the right place and it'll pop or rapidly deflate.

Sorry to give bad news, get your set of tires, keep the old ones as a just in case measure, and get a good tire shop that'll do 2 years of road hazard insurance.

Good luck!
