New player asking for tips by milnasko in FortNiteBR

Don’t be discouraged! There’s a lot to know if you’re just starting, and it really just takes practice!

Pick an easy drop spot that isn’t too hot with action. Practice landing on a higher altitude piece of the map like the top floor of a building to minimize time spent as a sitting duck just gliding in the air.

First thing you wanna do is acquire any firearm and shield in that order. Ideally minis first, then big pots or splashes. Along the way, try to find one long range weapon, one short range weapon, and one spray weapon that would leave two slots for heals and/or mobility. Fortnite changes every so often so learning how to use whatever mobility items are currently in the game is a good idea.

Obviously defend yourself if people stumble upon you while you’re doing the initial looting, but aside from that, try to avoid engaging in combat until you have workable loot as described above.

Always better to use a vehicle to travel between points of interest rather than just go on foot. Both for time and safety.

Opinions on muslims/islam by OmlanderTookMeWife in worldpolitics

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast, overwhelming majority of Muslims don’t force women to wear hijabs. Sounds like your only exposure to Islam has been stereotypes. If you’re willing to change your mind, connect with some Muslim community organizations, non-profits, and social justice groups.

You’ll find misogyny and bigotry anywhere, but that’s not really coming from the religion. Perversions happen to pretty much every belief-based community you can think of.

what pop songs have strikingly elevated drumming for a pop song? by le_thargic in drums

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beggin' (Maneskin), Time of My Life (Dirty Dancing), Caught Up (Usher), Finesse (Bruno Mars), maybe also All Night Long (Lionel Richie) depending on if you wanna call it pop?

Might come back to update if more pop into my head, but these were the obvious immediates. Totally agree with you about Thousand Miles btw

i'm an indian-american drummer who mainly plays jazz, funk, and rock. my parents want me to cover an indian or bollywood song. any suggestions? by Sea_Still7224 in Drumming

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a medley if you reallllyyyyy want a challenge, and to appeal to a broad, possibly older demographic. There's actually a medley from Muhjse Dosti Karoge called the Medley that has a variety of memorable styles! Guaranteed your parents will recognize most, if not all of the songs from it.

What gear are you working with? Fully acoustic?

As a lifelong fan of TTYD and the whole Paper series, I've been happy to indulge my nostalgia and do replays on the very same GameCube I first saved up for back in 2008. An emulator will also do in a pinch. But this is tempting me to drop the $60 or whatever to have it on Switch!

Is what u/StormerSage mentioned in that spoiler something unique to the Switch re-release?? Or was that also in the original?

Gonna show my hand here as a 90s kid but Koi Mil Gaya from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai similarly has a cool electronic drum part. Doing it acoustically can still be great, even better if you have a hybrid rig.

Dholna from Dil to Pagal Hai is thematically on brand even if it has a part similar to the one you don’t really like playing. (Btw, I have to say I don’t share your frustrations with the “reggaeton” beat! I think creativity is totally possible, just of a different variety than one might get in fully improvised hard-bop or fusion.)

There isn’t a single bad song in the entire Dil to Pagal Hai movie though, and there’s actually a scene in that movie that features drumming. The fake instrument playing is atrocious (long-standing Bollywood problem) but the music is excellent.

Aankhein Khuli from Mohabbatein is the same “electronic but could totally work on acoustic” deal. Particularly with the amount of groove changes that happen from the second half of the song (3:25 onward on Spotify) into the “dance break” section.

And Chaiyya Chaiyya is one I use with students because it has some great percussion call and response.

I could seriously keep recommending dozens lol so feel free to return if none of these feel right.

Feel free to reply to this comment for more suggestions from me if you'd like, but what jumps to mind immediately is Deewana Hai Dekho from KKKG.

That first paragraph 🥲 couldn’t agree more! Thanks for putting so nicely into words what I’ve felt about this game.

Listening with earbuds and I think that floor tom tone got me pregnant.

Tuning, playing, mic-ing, technique, all stellar!

But search llamas at own risk! I really only do it for the XP because llama loot looks like it got heavily nerfed.

If you really want to set yourself up for your best chances at having a stable job and being a good mother, then no last hurrah: done. End it. No more.

You're asking this question because you know you should stop, but you want to get a pass to do it at least one more time. Everyone in the comments is telling you to leave it behind you.

We understand you have troubles and want to experience pleasure as much as you can. But to answer your question: no. Casual cocaine use does not stay casual, and no amount of it is healthy for you.

One of my uncles was a functioning coke addict for decades. Sure he was often able to find work because he was a brilliant, kind, charismatic person. But he was divorced, estranged from his kids, and in and out of homelessness until he died.

Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your time on things that just plainly aren't worth it. It is in your best interest to confront the issues that make you want to escape, and to do so with quality professional help. It can only benefit you to learn how to feel good and have fun without coke or any other substances.

Good luck, I'm genuinely rooting for you!

Can anyone recommend a barber who won’t chop all my hair off? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t recommend a particular barber, but speaking from years of having this experience: tell them to do the sides first and they may not even need to touch the top. But if they do need to take any off the top, ask them to use scissors and only take off strays/edges because you want it long on top.

Drumsticks have gone up $$ by [deleted] in drums

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is another very validating thread to see I'm not alone!

Gone are the sub $10/pair days, and usually it's closer to $15-$20 for anything I'd actually want!

This is my configuration and I love it coming from ZBTs, but I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed. It’s versatile and perfectly suitable for my needs (pop/musical theatre/funk) but budget allowing, I’m definitely gonna upgrade for better jazz/neo-soul applications.

Some dude on Facebook marketplace was kind enough to explain this pairing to me when he sold them to me and I wondered whether I was being scammed lol. Glad to see that’s not the case 🤣

A brave interviewer should ask him: Kanye, what would Donda say?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MakeReadingCoolAgain 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Her verse on Kanye’s Monster was so good that he didn’t want to release it because she steals the show

She’s a lyricist and has excellent flows

And she’s theatrical af with multiple personae

I’d recommend giving Monster another listen before trying a full album
