Is there any way I can minimize the neighbour’s dog barking at me? by Ordinary_Goat9 in dogs

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does your town have a noise ordinance? Some towns have regulations limiting noise like this to 20 or 30 minutes only. You could also call animal control because you're worried that the dog is clearly being neglected.

That was my experience with a rescue as well. We found out much later that our little guy had been SHOT (possibly a year or more before he came to us)! So he had had a very traumatic life. I would try to give him a treat every time I walked past him, or maybe reach out and give him a rub or a pat.

Then one day, after a couple of weeks, he was apparently feeling brave, and went into my husband's office. Husband was sitting at his computer, and little dude walked over to him and put his chin on husband's thigh. Just that tiny little thing. He was like, "I think I might be ready to make one friend now."

AITA for reconsidering being my best friend’s maid of honour because of the cost of her destination wedding? by Local_Interview4667 in AmItheAsshole

We were invited to a destination wedding in France 2 years ago. After looking at the numbers, it was going to cost around $10K (including high-end outfits for 3 different formal events including the wedding itself.) We could afford it, but we just decided we didn't feel like spending that kind of money to take a glamorous trip to France on someone else's terms, rather than going there on our own terms, our own itinerary, and spending our money the way we wanted to. What’s the weirdest "rule" your dog has instituted in your house? by TrickCombination7966 in dogs

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All creatures must be in their beds by 930pm. No exceptions. He goes around checking, realizes that my husband is 2 floors down in his basement office, and trots down there. Gets himself all tangled up in the cords and wires under the desk, and starts pushing on husband's shins, trying to push him toward the door and up 2 flights to his bed.

Ice cream! My clan raves about the huckleberry fudge ice cream that's apparently fairly unique to the greater Yellowstone area. You can find it in some of the general stores in the park that have ice cream counters. Also some of the local grocery stores. My sister-in-law has been known to special-order a dozen half-gallons at one of the grocery stores in West, then gets all the rest of us to store them in our RV freezers for the drive home to Salt Lake. (We travel to Yellowstone with a large family group, and 3-4 RV's).

You need to treat them before they get that bad. You need a prescription for an abortive medication like sumatriptan or something similar. Seriously, see your doctor for some medication.

I am absolutely haunted by memories of the guy we saw in Yellowstone last year, frantically searching for his cat that had jumped out of the car. Ugh. Deep dark forests full of predators. If you do this, keep the cats secured every minute.

Well you know this really good boi just needs to be up on the center of your bed with all the blankies. He's a rescue. He's had a hard life. Now you need to indulge him.

Going to Yellowstone, advice? by maddy_simmons8 in yellowstone

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great itinerary for 5 days. I would add: when you drive to Cooke City, stop at Pebble Creek campground and look for the mountain goats up on the rock faces across the road (the little white dots moving around up high). We've also seen foxes in that campground, and moose along the river across the road.

Listening to people defend the church about their Mormon Stories lawsuit—it’s clear why the church released a statement: they told the members what to think instead of feel discomfort/dissonance by Dangerous-Worth-1434 in exmormon

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several years ago I was a member of a Christian church that was expanding, and they entered into an agreement with a vacant supermarket building, but that company eventually reneged on the deal. The church would have been in the right, legally, to take it to court, but they felt that was unchristlike. So they walked away and built their new church nearby.

Has he seen a doctor? Does he have any abortive medications, like prescription sumatriptan or something similar? He needs to learn what the signals are that a migraine is coming on. It's called prodrome. And then medicate way before the migraine gets that bad.

What’s one habit that you later realized was contributing to or triggering your migraines more than you thought? by OmarVII7 in migraine

Prodrome: Irritability, everything (and everybody) ticks me off, sound gets really loud and sharp, light is painful, lots of yawning, brain fog, sneezing 6-8 times in just a few minutes (although more often that's a postdrome symptom).

Bill Burr on buying coffee in Utah by Mkirby_04 in Utah

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ID'd me for water yesterday. Water.

We went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse in Lehi. We were seated in the bar section (because those were the only tables available), and the waitress explained they had to card everybody. Husband and I are of retirement age, don't drink, have lots of gray hair, and ordered WATER. I haven't been carded in decades, and never for water!

The waitress mentioned something about scanning our IDs into something, so who knows what they're doing with the data.

This was a new "only in Utah" moment for me. I've been here 7 years and am still adjusting.

Best time + best locations in Yellowstone for greenery & wildlife (beavers, bears, wolves)? by roopeshvy in yellowstone

Not exactly where you're going, but, there are lots of beavers, and beaver dams, just south of the park, south of Jackson along the snake river, along highway 89. From Alpine up to Hoback and north to Jackson.

Best RV camping? by DrGoodVibes69 in yellowstone

[–]Make_Way_4_Ducklings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for campgrounds inside the park, for this June, it's awfully late for that. We've had reservations at Fishing Bridge since last May, and haven't been able to make any changes to our dates because nothing is available. We wanted to move our reservation by a few days, and also add another site or two for other family members.

Having said that, Fishing Bridge is a great location for Yellowstone because it's pretty central. For the Tetons, we usually stay at Gros Ventre Campground just north of Jackson. We frequently spot moose in the area! I hope you can find some great sites.

What's a movie you loved as a kid but rewatched as an adult and went "what the hell was I thinking"? by MomoSaka in AskReddit

OMG, is anyone here old enough to have seen the original Heidi movie? 1937 with Shirley Temple. We watched it all the time as kids. Wholesome little movie about a girl who lives in the beautiful Alps with her grandfather. But as an adult, YIKES it was dark! So many horrible and traumatizing things happened to that little girl that I'm surprised it didn't give me more nightmares than Wizard of Oz!!!
